Some of you may have seen my earlier pirate idea, which I deleted recently, sorry, I jumped the gun. This is a more refined version. It is an open-world, free-roam, character-driven RP, but the introduction will be 'on rails' until we get to Calypso's Cove. You're free to do whatever you want afterwards.
Setting: A fictional region reminiscent of the Caribbean, set in 1701 (Golden Age of Piracy). It'll mainly take place on Calypso's Cove, a safe-haven for pirates, but also in the open waters and coastline. The Imperial Empire control much of the coastline, while the Hrolas control much of the islands and hidden coves.
Plot: The Empire and Hrolas have been at war for a year now, fighting over independent control of the region. The Imperials believe the Hrolas are using the pirates of the area as mercenaries and come up with a plan to ensure they're not a problem any longer. The Empire hunts down and kills many of these pirates, although they face a few defeats by the Hrolas in their pursuit. And finally, the Empire dares to attack Gills Reef, the original pirate safe-haven. By morning only a little over eighty pirates will remain.
What will these pirates do now? Will they continue their life of piracy, or try to do right in their life? Will they work together, or against each other? Will they betray their rivals, or even their closest allies?
It's all up to you. You're one of these remaining pirates. We'll begin in a prison on Gills Reef the night after the Empire has attacked. We'll get together and flee to Calypso's Cove, where we will try to rebuild ourselves. We'll only have one ship to begin with, but after we take over more ships it's possible you may be leading your very own crew.
Pirates - Not an actual faction, just a collection of pirates and other criminals on the open waters. Most use to stay at Gills Reef, but it has since been sacked and many fled to the island of Calypso's Cove. The pirates are free to do as they wish with nothing restraining them, although they'll need to work together to escape Gills Reef first. The pirates will make decisions that can and will affect Calypso's Cove and their reputation throughout the world.
Imperials - Similar to the British Empire. A monarchic nation seeking to colonize and control the region. They are at war with the Hrolas, a rebel group, and have the strongest navy in the area. You may not be in this faction, but your character might have the opportunity to work with them.
Hrolas - The Hrolas are a rebellious group of natives and Spaniards. The Hrolas seek to take the region from the Empire and then exert independence over their home. They do not have a large army or a strong navy, and thus rely on guerrilla tactics to fight the war. You cannot be a Hrola, but you might have the chance to work alongside them.
