In an effort to gauge my capabilities as a GM (and because we need a damn RP like this in Advanced lol), I've decided to start an RP---an NRP actually. However, this isn't exactly a 'nation' roleplay, but more of a 'faction' roleplay (or FRP---jeez, such an original acronym). You won't exactly be controlling nations (since the days of international powers was long ago ended by the mythical power of the atomic and virus bomb), but individual groups.
The objective of the RP is to not war with everyone and everything around you (I despise wank, powerplaying and general assholishness), but to explore a post-nuclear war setting and the hardships a person (or group) must overcome to survive in it. I'm really looking for character growth and to see some really gritty nations in this RP. Show some suffering; make your people feel pain, yet let them earn their bitter-sweet ending you know? Let's see if we can build a really cool world together.
The roleplay itself takes place in the Post-War US state of Oregon. The land itself is dangerous. It is filled with raiders, radioactive areas and the general terrible things that you would find in an RP setting like this.
Your faction can be just about anything that you think of. However, keep in mind the following guidelines:
Technology in this setting is advanced but incredibly rare. It is not uncommon to see a person's main weapon being a simple tire iron, pistol or baseball bat. Exo-skeletons (called Amp-Harnesses), power armor (more advanced versions of Amp-Harnesses), plasma weaponry, tanks, warships, robots, and other 'big' pieces of technology do exist, but they are hard to come across, well-guarded and often difficult to maintain since the materials required to keep them running are in very short supply.
In terms of population--no more than 3,000 people in a group.
In general, keep it reasonable. Please?
I've appointed Shimmerene as a sort of 'Co-GM'. He'll help with questions as well if I cannot be found. Marrone and Attila can also help you if someone isn't around. I know them well and they usually know what they're doing.
Have an idea for the roleplay? Pitch it in. I'm all ears. Have a question? Ask it.
Also, here is a free chat service in which everyone can use to talk about the RP (or to just interact with your fellow RPers).
