When the world was created it was barren lifeless. In the waste of the world the Earth gave birth to life in the form of Elements. You know them as Pyro, Aqua, Terra, and Aero. These spirits were pure and childless at the start. The Pyro just a spark and Aqua a single droplet, but soon each grew and experienced life. They became the guardians of Earth and together they turned the barren wastes into their own heaven. A place of beauty lush with green and rivers, the land of milk and honey. Each of the elements had to grow and learn, Pyro being the most troublesome along with his brother Terra. Pyro would burn all that he touched and his anger flared often causing even more destruction. It was Aqua who soothed his soul and through their love he learned temperance and passion. Terra the opposite shy and reclusive he never wanted to venture forth into the world. Only Aero could drag him from the ground, a free spirit never still she was always dancing and singing. Together the four lived in harmony spreading their joy throughout the world, and wherever they tread the ground was covered in grass and growth of life.
All was paradise until the darkness came for life can not exist without death. The element of darkness was not greeted with kindness by the others. Shunted for his curse of death the others drove him away. Darkness was turned away and forced into a life of exile. Wherever he tread the grass withered and died, fruit turned to ash in his mouth and even the life seemed to be sucked from the air around him. His heart grew weak as he longed to play and dance with the four. Above all else he wanted to create life knowing full well that he cant. He began to think only of resentment and malice towards those who shunted him. His power grew with every step he took, every time life was taken he was that much more powerful. He tried one last time to be accepted. He appeared before Aqua, the most passionate of the four. When he reached for her just to make contact, she shrieked away and scorned him. His outer appearance reflected what he was on the inside, twisted and disturbing. In Anger he lashed out, striking her down. The wound was fatal and her cries rang out for her love. Pyro upon discovering his beloved gone from this world lashed out in a fury so great half the world was ravaged by flames. In his attempt to slay the Darkness that robbed him, he struck down Aero in a maddened fury. Darkness fled hiding himself were Pyro could not find him. Pyro was in such a fury he threatened to engulf the world. His brother Terra being brown directly from the soil of the Earth could not allow this to happen. Even in his grief he fought tooth and nail with his brother for what seemed like centuries. Mountains rose just to be burnt to ash by fire. In the End Terra could not bring his brother back from madness and was slain, but not before fatally wounding Pyro. In the last moments of his life rain fell from the skies like it never had before, wind so great that it smoothed rough stone to silk just by the passing. Knowing now what he did, he begged for forgiveness and let himself return to the Earth.
The greatest of the Elements was watching however, Light took it upon himself to gather the remnants of his fallen kin and safe guard their spirits. Centuries past the fires long faded, life found away to grow again. In time the world was green again and a new form of life sprouted of the Earth. Man had been born from the ashes and mud. Their numbers grew and slowly they prospered. They built towns and cities, monuments and constructs to marvel at. But Darkness sought to bend man to his will and he planted his malice and greed into the pure hearts of men. No longer pure man began to wage war on another, and once again the world was in dire need. The wise element of Light had watched man for many years and also planted his own seed in man, that of love. However that was not enough, too many were corrupted by the Darkness. Light deemed it necessary to give man the greatest of gifts, the souls of the fallen four. His was a fleeting hope, only the purest of mankind could bare the responsibilities of the elements and so he took on human form to guide his chosen four.
