Name: Kendra Freeman
Aliases: Coldsnap, Ice Queen, Jane Frost
Height: 5' 9"
Build: Curvy and Athletic
Main Ability - Cryokinesis & Thermal Kinesis, as well as Alter Physical Structure: Ice - Becomes living ice. Powers similar to Bobby Drake aka Iceman
Superhuman strength - Kendra possesses unusually dense muscle fibers with a strong neurological connection to them, combined with her healing factor and another as yet unknown mechanism of some kind, giving her great physical strength, which only increases when in her ice form. She is noted as being able to carry 8,400 pounds, and lift 12,600 lbs in her normal form. In ice form it has been documented she can carry 16,800 lbs, and lift 28,000 lbs (14 tons). While this strength does not match the likes of Thor or the Hulk, her strength is considerable.
Flight - Kendra is able to psionically manipulate the moisture in the air around her, as well as may be frozen to her, to allow her to fly. Current speed estimates are 220 miles per hour, and she continues to practice with the ability, giving her more and more speed as she refines and hones her power and force of will. This allows her some unique considerations for combat as well.
Healing Factor - Kendra possesses a healing factor that allows her to recover from almost any wound over time. Can push her healing factor into overdrive twice per 24 hours, healing a large chunk of damage instantly or nearly instantly. Healing rate is about 10 times faster than normal, meaning broken bones heal within 8 to 10 days, rather than 11 to 15 weeks. No scaring or discoloration from healing. Does not fatigue whatsoever as lactic acid and other fatigue chemicals are destroyed or filtered out too quickly. Is highly resistant to poisons, drugs, and toxins. Fire does half the damage, cold would do half, but is immune to cold effects, even in normal form.
Notable Skills & Abilities
Linguist - Kendra possesses a talent for languages due to her parents moving around through her earlier years. She is known to speak English, Russian, Arabic, and Portuguese, and may speak other languages. How many is not known, and it is possible for Kendra to learn new languages much faster than other people, due to her multilingual upbringing.
Martial Artist - Kendra studied Capoeria, and Kickboxing and Karate (especially Kenpo) from a young age until now, making her a skilled and creative combatant in melee.
Gymnast - Thanks to her Capoeria training, as well as some gymnastics training when she was younger, Kendra is a skilled gymnast, especially in tumbling exercises , and keeps up with her training here if nothing else out of sheer enjoyment.
Weapon: None, but may create ice weapons for use.
Kendra's parents, David and Suzanne Freeman are from a family that is well-to-do, but are not in the top one percent of earners. They did however enjoy a relative amount of freedom, and used that freedom to travel with their small family, including one younger brother. David was an import/export business man who seemed to be working his way up in his company. Suzanne was part of a large international banking group, and was able to travel with her husband. They spent several years in places like Russia, Dubai, and Rio De Janeiro. This exposed Kendra to many cultures and beliefs, and allows her to speak several languages.
As she entered her teenage years, she was swimming in coastal waters when she was caught in a riptide, and panicked as it sent her rushing toward a coral reef. Unable to fight the current she was pulled under, causing her panic to spike even farther. The water slammed the young teenager into the rocky, and very sharp reef, hard. She rolled through the glass-like coral and was cut up quite severely, and even had some of it sticking out of her. Blood filling the water, terrified of sharks that might be cruising the warm waters, the water temperature began to drop around her. This went unnoticed though as the desire to be back on land took over, and she ejected from the water, crashing into the beach, into merciful blackness.
Kendra re-awoke on the beach, in the shade of a palm tree sometime later, only to find that her swimwear was shredded, but her skin was perfectly whole. Several pieces of jagged and sharp coral, including the kind that stings were laying in the sand next to her, some of it covered in blood... her blood. She looked out over the reef to see a broken sheet of ice floating on the surface, but rapidly melting, and she had no idea how she'd gotten to the beach. After a minute of consideration, she picked up a piece of glass and slit her hand open. After the initial pain faded, she marveled as the blood almost immediately stopped flowing, and the wound began to seal back, until there was nothing left. From that day on, she knew she was a mutant, but never told her parents out of fear.
Soon, she began looking beyond the homeschooling she was receiving, and that's when she found Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, and decided to take up a school stateside where she could live and finish out the last couple years of primary education, and then make the jump into secondary education. Her parents, unaware of the school's less than public side, agreed and so it was that she found her way to her new home.

Character you have created:Valkyra
Name: Justine Shepherd
Alias: Valkyra, Saphyra
Speech Color: Violet - "Four score and seven years ago.."
Character Alignment: Hero
Justine is a charming young woman with a heart of gold, and a fierce dislike of bullies. She is quick to smile and enjoys seeing others happy. She'll do what she can to help out a friend, and can be ruthless against an enemy. She is able to weed her way into almost anyone's trust, and many are vulnerable to her charm with her looks. Her capacity for likeableness and ability to see things from other people's point of view, and bring them around, can also make her a highly intimidating young woman if on the receiving end of her bad side. Samantha is firmly believes that it is the responsibility of those capable of protecting others that they do so. To this end, she has studied martial arts since she was young, as well as kickboxing and fencing, and has been known to stand up against bullies through her school years.
Justine has naturally been blessed with good genetics across the board. Giving her model looks, high average to low genius intelligence. She has an affinity for people and a natural amount of mental toughness. Physically she was strong to begin with, and was athletically talented, being a natural at sports with great reflexes and hand-eye coordination and flexiblity. Her endurance was good as well, and her speed was sharpened and honed through track and running. She has also trained from a young age in martial arts, kickboxing, and gymnastics.
Her nature toward physical skills is due in part to being part of a police family, with her father serving on the S.W..A.T. team, and later her brother working as an undercover vice cop. Her best friend was influenced by her family as well and out of high school joined the police force as well. While her father has often said that she would make a good law enforcement officer, her focus against bullies has turned to journalism and creative writing. She favors exposing stories shining light on criminals. Creative works tend to focus on mystery, fantasy, or some sci-fi, quite a few times with a detective story bent.
Unbeknownst to JJ is the fact that she is a descendant of a deity, which is responsible for her good genes. How far back in her family history is unknown at this time, nor the deity responsible for her bloodline.
Rebecca and Donald Shepherd are agnostic folks. who brought Justine into the world and into a huge family dozens of relatives all over the world, she has grown up well-adjusted There is about a one-in-three chance that Justine can find a family member anywhere in any large/major city in the world. Even in remote locations there is at least a 5% chance that a family member or close friend of a family may be found or can pop up.
A short time ago, Justine wound up taking up residence in an old warehouse which she has converted into a living space as well as a small personal gym, along with office, garage, and storage. It was bought on the cheap from a family member who worked for a film maker and prop company. She found costume items and props of all kinds. Some she was allowed to sell, others were kept. But she found a sword that at first glance seemed to be a prop. When she inspected it closely, she found it to be a beautifully crafted sword that seemed to feel right, and fit right in her hand.
A bit of a nerd, as well as martial artist and fencer, she knew swords well. She asked her uncle about the weapon, and even brought it to him. He had no recal of the weapon, and decided to do some research which came up empty. Deciding that it was a well made, beautifully crafted sword a hero prop but had never been seen on screen that he knew of, though it closely resembled a fantasy sword from a series of books and movies... he told her she could do what she wished.
Overjoyed she returned home and sheathed the blade in a scabbard that would suit the weapon, then put it on a mount in her room. While a functional sword it was also too beautiful to not use as a piece of decoration too. (More continued in writing sample)
Hero Type (Select one): Mystic/Supernatural - Magical Object
Power Level: 2 - City Level, currently. Could scale upward to World or Cosmic level, depending on the needs of the story.
NOTE: Having only one or two powers does not automatically make a character a level 2. The levels reflect how powerful the powers themselves are, not only the variety. A level 3 may be more powerful then a level 4. These levels serve to show where your powerful hero operates, as heroes this powerful may be cosmic wonderers or Earth-bound. Also, Game Masters will be wary of approving level 3 or 4 characters. An extremely well-thought out and great sample post will be needed to be approved for a high level character. Your post should be as powerful as your character.
Powers (Be Specific):
Almost all powers Justine has stem from the magical sword Edgewind, and require the transformation the sword brings on. A few may be used without transformation. One power is available to Justine even without her sword, or being transformed, so long as she is it's champion.
Edgewind/Edgewynde - This sword is a hand-and-a-half, or bastard sword, double edged. It is made of brightly polished platinum or silver looking metal, covered in arcane runes. It features a gently curved guard, for one hand. The other is exposed to the metal with a rounded pommel. Overall length is 47 and 5/8ths of an inch, with 35 and 1/4 of 36 inches of sharp blade. The blade is almost two inches wide at the hilt, flares to two inches, then forms a mostly straight blade except for the last foot or so which gracefully curves to a very sharp point. Edgewynd is light in the hand and is superbly balanced. It is indestructible, and even though it is thousands of years old, it appears to be brand new, razor sharp, with no cracks, dents, dings, or breaks. Because of it's make it is easy to use and is an excellent sword. On it's own merit the sword is so finely made that it is said to be able to cut gods, or God. Does roughly three times the damage of a non enchanted version of the same sword. It will damage all magical and supernatural creatures, including godlings, demi-gods, gods, and cosmic beings.
Edgewind may be carried in a normal sheath, or may be carried in a fashion, of either a pendant or charm in the same shape as the full version, on a necklace or charm bracelet. It may also be represented on a person as a small tattoo version of itself.
Teleportation: Justine possesses the power to teleport at will, between 16 and 20 times per minute. She may bring up to 1,000 lbs of weight with her when teleporting. Her maximum known distance in a single teleport is documented up to five miles in a straight line. Teleportation is instantaneous without need for pocket or dimensional transference. Her teleportation power has a chance to go awry as it is not flawless. She enjoys a 99% chance for anywhere familiar, like her home, or if it is visible. This is lowered to 93% chance if she is simply viewing a life TV broadcast. If the location has been seen a few times, anywhere from two to six, then she has an 88% chance of reaching her destination safely. If she has been there only once, her chances drop to 50%, and drops to 38% if she has never seen it at all, only described. Totally unknown has a mere 12% chance of hitting her mark.
This power can be used with or without the sword, and without being transformed
The results of bad teleports can be potentially deadly, as is common to many teleporters. 1-60% results in a totally wrong place, with no idea of present location. Justine has teleported 3 to 12 miles beyond her usual range. (8 to 17 miles). 61-85% - Appears 300' above ground and may take falling damage of a severe nature if she cannot teleport to safety or otherwise catch herself. 86-100 -Teleport into object - Death is instant. - May institute partial merge into object, such as a limb. May free limb, depending on material, or may have to have limb removed.
Transformation - When Justine possesses or holds the sword and whispers or says it's name, she is instantly magically transformed to a being of power. She appears as an idealized version of herself, 6 foot tall. Her natural attractiveness is enhanced to the point she appears to be a living goddess. Her physical strenth is enhanced and she becomes resistant to fire/heat and cold, taking half as much damage. Magical attacks against her are not as effective, as she has some resistance to them.
Superhuman Strength - When transformed by the power of Edgewynd, Justine's power is significantly increased. She gains the ability to lift nine to ten tons and carry over five tons.
Enhanced Durability - The sword provides Justine with enhanced durability, able to soak up two to three times more punishment than compared to an average human. A bullet to the head, or a blade through the neck is still lethal, and she may be killed by any other normal means, but it simply takes more. When not transformed she does not enjoy as much vitality.
The Sight - Due to the magical attunements provided, and her perceptions aided by the sword, Justine gains the power to See the Invisible, this includes astral constructs, spirits, ghosts, beings rendered invisible by magic or psionics, or other powers, usually as a ghostly image with distinct outlines.
Healing Touch - The sword has the power to heal almost any wound, especially for average humans and may do so 10x per 24 hours. This is magical healing which means no scarring, bones are fixed immediately. Only wounds created by cosmic, divine, or magical attacks may leave scars and even then those are minor. May heal herself or others.
Invisibility: Superior - A powerful ability that makes the wielder invisible to all means of detection! Infrared, ultraviolet, heat, and motion detectors, See Aura, Presence Sense, Sense Magic, Sense Evil, and even an animal's sense of smell, that of the supernatural cannot locate the invisible person, or person's. (Can make up to one other person invisible as well. Can make 2 others invisible per activation.) No footprints are made, there is little sound, which makes prowling/sneaking easier. See the Invisible will only reveal a semi-transparent, ghost-like image of the character. Anything worn by the user, or is carried when this power is activated becomes invisible as well. Any object picked up after the character has become invisible remains visible unless tucked under the invisible garments. Likewise, any any items on her person that are dropped become visible.
Unlike simple invisibility this super-cloaking magic is broken only if the character engages in combat/attacks. At that instant they become completely visible. Note: The invisible character is not ethereal and cannot walk through walls; a door must still be used. The forcing open a door or window, picking a lock, tapping somebody, accidentally bumping somebody, or accidentally getting shot or hurt, is not considered an act of aggression or combat, so the invisibility is maintained.
Words of Truth - A powerful enchantment that lasts for a few minutes. A person affected by this enchantment is compelled to answer all questions truthfully. The spellcaster must be within five feet and he or she can ask two brief questions every fifteen seconds. It is wise to keep questions simple and clear to avoid confusion. The victim is compelled to answer only the spell caster. The victim may, tapping into their force of will, elect not to answer. This does not preclude the question being asked again which may result in the victim's will failing or slipping, compelling them to answer. Most average people will find it difficult if not impossible. Most hero and villain types have a chance to resist, and is determined question by question, or by repetition of question.
Flight - Edgewind grants the wielder the ability to fly at roughly 50 miles per hour. May increase over time, but this allows the wielder a different option in mobility. Not nearly as fast as teleportation, it s safer and not as mentally taxing. It can allow the wielder a wide range of options and capabilities.
Lightning Stroke - The sword possesses the power to spit lightning, either in ball form, or in a ray/line. (May become chain lightning as a power stunt or if sliding up along the power scale.) Range is a little over a thousand feet, and may be used up to four times per minute. This is a high energy and high damage attack that is partially manifested by the champion of the sword's will, intent, and beliefs. This is both a simple movement of electrons and a magical attack, and can damage supernatural, divine, cosmic, and super humans as well as normal targets. On those completely immune to electricity, they may still take half damage.
Mystic Shield - This is a powerful defensive capability granted to the wielder of the sword. It comes in two flavors for the wielder. It can simply be a melee type shield comprised of energy and may be used to parry/block attacks. It may also be created as a sphere or dome to shield herself completely, or a tight group of people within sixty feet of the sword. This is purely defensive only and cannot be used to ensnare or encage a victim to make them suffocate. May be used to blook doorways and corridors for a time. The shield may be erected as a defensive parry, to protect a group or herself from an attack, such as an incoming missile (for example). The shield may be raised a couple of times per minute, and lasts until it is depleted, the danger has passed, or the champion wills it away. Can take significant punishment but only for so long.
Skills and Notable Abilities:
Gymnastics & Freerunning - Justine is a skilled gymnast and runner, and has gotten into the sport/hobby of free-running or parkour. Usually viewed as a boy's activity, she has found she rather enjoys the challenges and physical activity. It also gives her high agility when pursuing or fleeing from foes and allows her to handle falls and throws well, and gives her access to an array of acrobatic maneuvers.
Attributes (Select one at each category):
Strength Level: Normal human (But upper limit of human capability. Can carry 600 lbs, and lift 1,200 lbs) when not transformed, 10 tons when transformed
Speed/Reaction Timing Level:
Reaction time: Approximately 2x faster than avg human, high nerve conduction velocity naturally
Speed: 22 mph running speed, natural & trained - bestowed with teleportation - 5 mile range, 16x per minute (about every 4 seconds), comes out to mach 7.5 roughly if traveling line of sight and measured over time, otherwise instant point-to-point
Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort: Normal Human/3 Hours
Agility: 3x to 5x more agile than normal human
Intelligence: IQ of 150 - high average, low genius
Fighting Skill: Trained - Martial Artist, kickboxer and fencer/swordswoman (may rise to mastered over time)
Resources: Not sure how you want to gauge this.
Finances: Minimal to Average
Barry the Snitch - Slightly greasy meth-head that usually has something in regards to the word on the streets, especially wierd or unusual stuff. Uses Barry sometimes for story seeds, or for newspaper stuff. Is a fan of her creative works, when he can focus enough to read.
Ricky Cross - Medical Examiner - Can find out almost anything about a stiff, and can provide good information if the money is right.
David McPhereson - Detective - Friendly, can usually find out things if needed, or has information. Sometimes useful for a good night on the town.
Weaknesses: None, per se, other than typical human fraillties. May be ageless and immortal while possessing the sword, and championing the cause of light
Supporting Characters: (Also see contacts listed in Resources)
Rebecca Shepherd, Mother - Communications engineer - works for the local or regional TV station
Donald Shepherd, Father - Police S.W.A.T. officer, team leader, close to retirement
Lance Shepherd, Brother - Under Cover Cop - Currently assigned to Vice Unit.
M'Kaila Shepherd - Older sister - Entertainer - Comedian, musician. Loves to dance, and takes dancing gigs more than anything else.
Joel Goodman, Best friend - Works as a Police Officer, tough, good looking, smart, former Army.
Lacey Williams, girlfriend - Media actress, does local comercials and bit parts.
The reasons why you have chosen that character:
1. This is a character, similar on the surface to another, but has a wildly divergent part to play. This character is about exploration of character in regards to power, heroism, and the struggles and triumphs of service.
2. As a sort of Sword In The Stone story, it hearkens back to myths and legends, but with modern twists. With the cosmic forces arrayed, it also provides an opportunity for the Gods to put a different playing piece on the boards.
3. This character can adjust on a sliding scale. This is a different iteration and incarnation of a character I had previously. (new stat rolls, new history and background, but some of the same ideas) that I never got to fully explore. (Yes, this character has been done as a table-top, pen and paper RP character before making the conversion to this CS format) - If need be, I can have her scaled up and down to match what is needed.
4. This character may be caught in the middle of a war. I was also thinking about perhaps having Kensei mentor her in her fighting training.
5, This character has become in my mind a symbol for heroism, enhanced by blessings of higher powers, but would still be a heroine without the abilities granted to her, only her natural attributes, physical prowess and training.
6. There are many forms of crime, and many forms of justice and punishment. Sometimes the laws of man are inadequate to the task and must be set aside. Instead the righteous and capable must step forward so that those that would hurt or oppress others for the sake of power, or the enjoyment of it, may face their crimes and judgement.
What can you bring to the RPG?:
Detail, excellent imagery, and hopefully fun and interesting characters and storytelling. I hope to be able to draw readers in suck them into the story.
Do you know how to post pictures on RPG boards?: I already did, didn't I?
Justine stretched a little as she wandered through her living room, mindful not to spill her coffee. Thankfully freelancers didn't have to be at the office at the buttcrack of dawn. Despite what Joe and Lacey said about the curb appeal for her place, she didn't care. The warehouse still had props along a couple walls, big display peices she was trying to move. There were boxes, and other pieces she couldn't sell off, but it wasn't like she cared. They gave the area that was serving as a garage style.
The rest of the building seemed a little more modernized, with sky lights along the ceiling for natural lighting during the day. There were also solar panels that were lining the roof. Off in the distance one of the electric space heaters kicked on but she ignored it. The living room was done in warm earthy tones with soft textures, and a nice wood burning stove for heat. The TV was showing the morning news and traffic reports. Idly she picked up the remote off the coffe table and shifted it to Fuze where some random music video began playing.
A moment later she sat on the couch, flipping over her laptop. The tip-tap of a few keys logged her in, and she was plugging into her email. Junk... junk..junk. A bank notice saying that her commission for some photos she took had come in so she had some spending money, after paying her phone bill, which she quickly did. Almost immediately her cell phone on the table vibrated across the glass top. She snatched it up and checked it then smiled. "No, I will not make out with you," she said as she answered the phone, "I still have morning mouth."
"Awwa, and here I thought you were gonna offer me donuts," replied a somewhat deep voice on the other end, that of Joel. "Oh, do you have some," she said as she went back to studying her emails.
"No, I don't have any donuts," Joel replied. "You just get up?" Justine nodded, then forgot he wasn't actually right there. "Yeah. I've been up about ten minutes. Checking emails and stuff right now while I drink some coffee. I'm fixing to go get in the shower, then check in and see if the boss lady wants me to come in, or if I'm freelancing today or something." Joel paused for a second, either he was driving or thinking, she wasn't sure which. "Stop thinking about me in the shower," she said with a smile in her voice. "Damn... busted. Anyway, I need to get moving too. Call me when you're ready for lunch or something," Joe said. "Will do. Love ya, talk to you in a little while,"Justine confirmed. "You too, see you soon, beautiful." With that she killed the call and sighed.
With that she finished off her coffee and headed for a reload in the kitchen. A minute later she was back and standing in her living room. She felt ... fidgety. The need to get up and do something, and she really wasn't ready to head to work. As a freelancer she worked for herself, for the most part. She did everything from taking photos, to writing articles, sometimes both for the local papers and online news services. This also meant that she could easily work from home.
Idly she found herself staring at the sword she'd found a few days ago and had checked out with her Uncle. Justine had taken the time to do some more further research on it, taking rubbings of the runes on the blade, guard, and all. Some of them appeared to be Nordic but she hadn't had much time to see if they could be translated yet. After a moment she reached up and took the hilt in hand and lifted the weapon from it's mount. She sat her coffee on the bookshelf she stood next to and slid the blade free of it's scabbard.
The blade seemed to almost sing softly as it became freed. The balance still felt marvelous, light in the hand but powerful in the stroke and it maneuvered well, like an extension of herself. "My, my, my, you really are a piece of work," she said to the sword, not caring that she was just talking to sharp metal. Quickly she gave it an experimental twirl, the edges cutting the air.
Suddenly, before her twirl could be completed she stood in a meadow, surrounded by forest. Mist and fog rose up on all sides with gorgeous snow-capped peaks all around. The air was chill against her bare legs, for all she wore was a long t-shirt for sleeping in. She could feel the moisture brushing against her flesh, raising goosebumps up her legs, spine, down her arms and over her chest. A bright light filled her awareness and the sword tumbled nervelessly from her fingers as she raised her arms to shield her eyes from the almost burning radiance.
A figure seemed to step out of the incandescent field in front of Justine. It turned out to be a beautiful young woman with platinum blonde hair, the figure of a goddess an clad only in a ribbon of the finest silk that wrapped around her figure, covering her but not restricting her. It almost seemed as though it were a draping that enhanced rather than took away from her. She hovered a few inches off the ground, toes pointed, suspended by her power as her hair slowly billowed behind her. "Do not be frightened, Justine. I am, or once was, Alessyr," the woman identified herself with a knowing smile. "You are the next chosen Champion of Light. Take this enchanted sword, Edgewind, and use it's powers to ferret out the truth and cut down the evil that threatens to devour the light." Before Justine could ask a single question she was suddenly back in her living room, with the sword in hand again.
"What the hell was that," she said, more than a little freaked out. Did that really just happen, or am I loosing my mind? Maybe I fell asleep for a second and it was just a dream... yeah... had to be a dream. "What an interesting name though," she said, then held the blade in front of her, regarding the mysterious inscriptions on it. "Edgewind..." she murmured. Suddenly there was a flash of light, and she staggered a little.
She could feel new power coursing through her body, and she was ... taller? She looked down at herself, clad in black and dark purple in a very stylish but unusual ... costume? Moving carefully she went to her room and found her full length mirror, studying herself. She'd grown at least eight inches in height, and the woman before her was beyond stunning, beyond breathtaking. She twirled the blade, before studying the costume again. It was mostly of a leather-like material which afforded her some protection, and there was a black metal that helped protect truly vital or vulnerable potions of her but the whole thing allowed her to move without restriction. The whole design was very alluring, but still protective and really showed nothing, but could be very distracting too. She decided she liked it very much.
Justine hefted the blade, looking down at it. If it were light in her hands before, she almost couldn't feel the weight at all now. "Wow... you really -are- enchanted," she said. She could almost feel a confirmation somewhere in her spirit, and at the same time she understood that the blade could do much, much more for her. As she stood there holding it, she began to understand how it functioned, what powers it had, and truly it's nature. She felt as though she had found a new part of herself. And she found an ability residing within her as all the doors were kicked open in her mind. It was an understanding that magic was real, and there were in fact, higher powers out there.
"Let's go find out what we're made of," she said, suddenly wanting to see what she and her sword could do with this new found power. A moment later she simply seemed to disappear into thin air with a pop as the air rushed in to fill the space she'd just left, kicking up a few sheets of paper.

Name: Jacob "Jake" Prater
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 170 lbs
Likes: Asian food, martial arts, good books, computers, guns & explosives, movies, games
Dislikes: Cops, small dogs, stupid people
Personality: Jake is a driven, focused young man. He enjoys physical as well as mental activities, and is something of a nerd, as he tends to play computer, console, and role-playing games, and is a music and movie buff. He is a little fidgety and slightly shy, and perhaps could be described as a little ADD, or ADHD at times. This is usually kept in check though due to his focus. Jake is also territorial about his personal space and belongings, but it varies from person to person. For the most part, Jake is a fairly nice guy.
Mutation & Powers
Enhanced neuro-electrical conductivity, enhanced electricity generation, electricity control. In short, Jake possesses an increased nerve conduction velocity giving him lightening reflexes, phenomenal striking and running speed, increased physical stregth, a faster metabolism, and greater kinesthetic, auditory, and visual acuity, as well as gustatory and olfactory. Meaning his senses, all of them, are sharper and more enhanced.
With enhanced nerve conductivity, and nerve conduction velocity, Jake possesses a high order intelligence, and keen mind. He also has a knack for electronics, and is prone to being fidgety and also struggles with insomnia.
Jake can also energize the cells of his body to a high degree, essentially becoming living lightening or electricity giving him an even greater number of capabilities. He can sense electronic devices, currents, flows, and oscillations within a large radius, allowing him to pick up nerve impulses and electronic devices, as well as manipulating them to a certain degree.
Most notably he can produce mild jolts of electricity, to powerful strokes and lightning blasts, as well as being able to create ball lightning, and an electrical/electrified "aura" around him. Due to the energetic nature of lightning, Jake is resistant to extreme heat and plasma, as well as energy weapons and energy attacks, but is not immune.
Jake's capabilities continue to expand, and these are the basics, giving an overall idea of his capabilities. In short, his mutation allows him great control and use of electricity, and related effects. These powers may not all be discovered yet.
Weapon: None, but is skilled with swords, knives, most "Stick" weapons, and is also somewhat skilled with firearms.
Martial Artist - Jake has studied a number of martial arts from a young age, making him skilled as an unarmed combattant, as well as with several melee weapons.
Talented Tactician - Jake is a lover of games, especially tactics or strategy, as well as role-playing games. He is able to think analytically and analyze terrain, environment, and enemy disposition and placement, along with the skills and capabilities of allied personnel and equipment. Jake is also a chess player, and has studied many historical military engagements as well. This makes Jake an excellent tactician and strategist
Jake Dunham didn't have a normal life to begin with. His mother died of violence when he was young, not to mention living in a small town in northern Texas. The incident left its mark on his body, as he became very sick soon after, spending much time in the care of his grandparents. He recovered, and soon after his father remarried, which caused them to move to Ohio. While there, he lived as any kid did, and physically he was well taken care of, but when it came to family life, really there wasn't much of one. His step-mother worked as a nuclear chemist, and his father worked maintaining a very well reknowned horse-ranch in the area. His older brother at the time attended high-school and later a trade-school, and well his stepsister was a snot-nosed brat, and could get anything she wanted. This left him as the middle child. None of this bothered Jake terribly much as he found ways to fill his time, from spending hours at a time in the woods, or at home, buried in games. This didn't change too much, though at roughly age 6 he took a keen interest in martial arts after watching an action movie. His parents thought it was just a passing interest but it would stay with him for the rest of his life.
The interest in martial arts led to other aspects. He took to the idea of combat, especially honorable combat, while he detested violence for the most part. There was something from a bygone age, the appeal of a warrior, the use of weapons that captured his attention. It wasn’t long after he took an interest in martial arts that he attended a few seminars here and there, and began training himself. Six years after going to Ohio, his father's relationship was on the rocks, and Jake traveled back to Texas to live with his grandmother for the time being.
This proved to be the worst point emotionally, and yet, the point that brought him a good measure of inner strength. By the time he hit the end of seventh grade he'd met his first instructor. James had trained from a young age in martial arts, specifically Filipino Martial Arts, Kajukenbo and Wing Chun. They began to train together and soon Jake was becoming decently skilled, Due to Jake's interest in combat, in all forms, he'd started learning how to handle firearms when he was younger, but never really had much chance to do any of it. But with his first teacher, they spent hours and hours training with such weapons, and he became skilled with a gun as well.
His schooling was rough, but it was the students that made it worse. Jake had felt his hands start to tingle when training, and found that he could increase his speed, strength, and reaction time, and even his senses from his training, but one afternoon while waiting on a ride four students cornered him. They began bullying him, and shortly one of them, feeling macho struck him. To that point he'd been keeping their hands away and such, but as soon as he was struck, and not in context of a spar, a bit of anger flared, but it was more determination than anger. His hair stood on end, which wasn't terribly noticeable as it was cut short, and he stepped into the one in front of him, moving into a palm-strike that sent the kid flying, like he'd touched a high voltage line. Jake stood there, arm extended, static arcing between his fingers for a moment. The other boys didn't notice the static charge, but the did notice that their friend -flew- at least four yards.
Time passes and the course of things change. Jake was split away from his teacher, but soon wound up falling into katsujin shotokan karate and kickboxing, which he trained with for two years. It was good training, and combined with the end of his junior high he adapted and gained better control of himself, and the emotional wounds that had been ripped open back then closed, mostly. He began to slowly increase in martial skill, and weapons, training hours per day a few times a week, mixed with movies and video games in his down time, along with school.
One afternoon late in his junior year, Jake had skipped school, a rare thing, and wound up going to the mall with a couple of friends. Amarillo is kind of far from Washington and most other major cities, but is strategically important to Uncle Sam thanks to the Pantex Nuclear Facility. Combined with proximity to White Sands nuclear testing and Pantex, the midwest has seen a rise in mutant activity, and with the need for security it is a good testbed for the Sentinel Program. Jake had gone to Tilt which is the arcade in the mall, and had spent some time there wasting some of earnings there. As he started to loose his stress level spiked briefly and he shorted the machine out, frying the electronics.
The electromatic disturbance created was noted by a Sentinel in the parking lot. Mall Security also found their cameras temporarily disabled, and the attendant at Tilt called for security, suspecting vandalism on Jake's part. He immediately split, since Tilt was near his favorite exit from the mall. Outside, then Sentinel oriented on motion, as well as electronically tapping into the phone call in the Mall. A sub-routine for law enforcement had been included so the machine clicked over and warned him to stop while doing a facial recognition scan. Jake didn't wait, and was pursued.
Eventually, the sentinel closed in and reached for him, but Jake instinctively blasted the Sentinel in the head with a stroke of high energy, high amperage lightning. Hotter than the surface of the sun, the bolt melted it's face, overloaded it's optical systems, and shorted out most of it's electrical systems, destroying the large robot. Such a disturbance was easily detected by Cerebro, and it made the news as well, drawing the attention of the X-men, as well as other groups.
On the run, he was soon picked up by the school, and the incident was swept under the rug as an unfortunate lightning strike that happened to damage the Sentinel bot and cause a power surge in nearby local electronic systems. Since that day he has been at the Mansion.

Name: Vernoica Gomez
Height: 5' 8"
Physique: Average - 35CC-24-34
Ethnicity: Bi-racial - Hispanic & Philipino
Skin Tone: Tanned
Eye Color: Dark Blue
Hair Color/Length: Dark brown with light highlights, shoulder length, perpetual ponytail
Appearance: (A brief detailed description…)
These days she is not quite so pretty, and wears worn khaki cargos, sturdy boots, and usually double tank tops, shades, and a baseball cap. She is always armed with a good knife, her pistol, and usually has her shotgun on her back, and of course her escrima sticks are on her as well. Never goes anywhere without radio.
Charismatic - Veronica is a mostly charming young lady, nice to those that are nice to her. And she's usually nice to those that aren't nice to her. Good relations are good insurance in the every-man-for-themselves survivalist attitude, and increases her chances of being helped out by other survivors, especially those she has done many favors for and vice versa.
Fast Learner/Jill of All Trades - Veronica has always been a quick study and can absorb a myriad of skills quickly and easily. The connections she makes between skills is very rapid and allows her to progress, and is matched by a natural, inborn intelligence.
Coordinated - Due to being trained as a hunter and survivalist, as well as many years of training in Filipino martial arts by her grandfather, she has become quite coordinated. This allows her to move around, over and through rough terrain, quite easily and makes her semi-to moderately ambidextrous.
Arnis/Kali/Escrima - Trained in Filipino martial arts has made Veronica a skilled stick and knife fighter, as well as an empty-handed combatant. As a result there is almost always something nearby she can use as a weapon, whether it's a stick on the ground, a piece of pipe or rebar, or a meat cleaver in some kitchen.
Proficient Shooter - Trained by her father to handle firearms, and shoot well, Veronica is no stranger to firearms. She is able to pick up most guns and use them with at least a modicum of skill but prefers the weapons she has for the most part. Simple, light, easy to use, and for the most part easy to maintain.
Self-Sufficient - Due to her survivalist training and martial arts training, she has learned to handle herself, and to think proactively. She has learned to see the use in most of the things around her, and allows her to repurpose items for survival. She also can effect her own survival needs and effect her own rescue most of the time.
Impatient - Veronica is a doer as much as a thinker, so she likes to get things done. As a result she sometimes acts without backup or support, and is prone to bursts of "If you want it done, do it yourself" thinking.
Oral Fixation - Like others in the group, Veronica has taken up smoking, or chewing on things as a nervous habit. It helps sometimes to relieve nervous energy, but it can drive her companions nuts, or drive her nuts if she doesn't have something to do there.
Addiction - Since becoming an asthmatic, Veronica has found that Albuterol is a great stimulant for helping deal with her asthma attacks. It is also good for keeping her going when she feels too sleepy or tired, and needs a boost to get her through. Some have suggested Adderal is a great one too.
Headstrong - Due to her survivalist training, she has learned to rely on herself, and only herself, which means she has difficulty asking for help at times, which can, and does, lead her into trouble at times.
Periods - Being a woman in a zombie apocalypse is hard enough.
Asthma - The smoke from countless fires as well as industrial waste being released into the atmosphere with noone to maintain the scrubbers has created a case of asthma for Veronica. Most of the time it is not bad, but does require an inhaler now and again.
