"The Age of the Fallen" is what the scholars are calling this crisis. War has the land clinched in fear. Lords and Kings are fighting for land and wealth. Due to the constant war the wealthy have taken to employing mercenaries from distant countries. Strange men with even stranger powers, necromancers, mages, even dragon riders. The conflict has given rise to various new religions, the foreigners bring with them their religion thus fueling the flames of war. The war started with the death of a king, his son widely whispered to not be a true born son but a bastard led many Lords to claim sovereignty from the throne. War and violence is the outcome when Lords rebel. In the far reaches of the North, past the great wall made of ice and stone a evil awakens. A darkness, a blight, a nameless evil stirs in the frozen North. A evil that only the forgotten Gods of Old could give name to. In the past the men called them The Others and Whitewalkers, a terror so great that they erected a wall thousands of feet high to separate them and watchers to stand guard. However that was ages ago, and all have forgotten the reason the wall was built. Even the watchers have forgotten why they stand guard, but soon everyone will remember for winter is fast approaching and with it brings the Others.
Magic in the world of Azura is a mysterious thing. Not everyone is gifted in the arts and even those who are have to work endlessly to master their talent.
The first and most common are the control of the four elements. Usually you tend to see magic users who specialize in a single element, devoting all their training and study to there favored element. However some truly talented elemental users can learn to use two forms the elements. These people have study endlessly for years and have learned to combine there elements to form a new magic, such as lighting, lava, and ice.
Fire: Fire is life and death. The most purest of the elements. It burns all that it touches and is the most dangerous and hardest to control of all the elements. Those who master this element often become the strongest of their mage counterparts and more than often end up burnt to ash by their own hands.
Wind: Wind is a tricky element, just when you think you have mastered it to your will it bends and slips away from your grasp. Only a fool hopes to catch the wind for the wind is free and unyielding. Some say it is the most useless of all the elements but those people have not witnessed men who can take flight or uproot trees with nothing but their own breath.
Water: The life giver. Every living thing on this planet needs water to survive to deprive it of such is a slow and painful death. Those who wield this sorcery can give or take life with a wave of a hand. Boros the Red was given his name for his gruesome means to execute a man. Boros would pull out a mans life blood not by a sword or wound but from there mouth, eyes, and ears.
Earth: Balance and unity. Those who posses this power can call forth the very stones of the Earth. Ulfric the Stone could armor his body in solid stone, swords would shatter upon contact with his skin. The fool was done in at the battle of Bywater bridge when he was knocked from his horse and fell into the river.
Enchanters: A order of women who have a magical talent and are sought after by men who wish to see them dead. The order faces near extinction, most of the members are in hiding to avoid the executioners blade. Imagine if you will if you could inspire courage in a man who has lost all hope, or turn a blood thirsty barbarian into a weeping child wrought with fear. Enchanters posses the ability to dominate the will of a man with a single glare or touch. They can make a man fall so in love with them that they would give everything just to please them, once touched by a enchanter you become what they want you to become. That is why man fears them so and executes them whenever they are found.
Necromancy: Witches, warlocks, and ghouls fall under this category. There dark arts are mostly shrouded in secret and this has led them to be shunted by most in Azura. However across the narrow sea they are famed for their abilities. Rumors speculate that they can raise the dead, place ill curses on their foes, and even speak to demons.
Wargs: Not so much as magic as a gift. Some people although very few in number have the ability to mold their conscious with a beast. This is first seen through dreams were the person can see through the eyes of the animal they're controlling. In time and will training the Wargs can go into a state of deep meditation and actively control their animal for be it bear, wolf, or raven. In this state the Wargs human body can not defend itself nor move at all. In some cases Wargs take so much a liking to their animal form that they stay too long and their body dies from thirst or exposure, this places their mind permanently in the body they are inhabiting.
Note: This is only a section of Azura, primarily the middle. This is where most of the fighting and conflict is taking place, so this is where are characters are going to be at the start.
Discription: There house is the most notable house in Azura. They along with several other Lords and Houses lead a rebellion against the original Targaryen king of Azura. Their rebellion successful and the line of the Targaryen's gone Robert first of his name took the throne for himself. Claiming the castle Kings Landing and all of Azura as his own. people bowed before him and loved him. Robert soon became drunk with power... literally. The man never did anyone harm, he just whored and drank constantly. There has never been more bastards born in Azura then under Kings Robert's reign. Their original lands are located in Storms End, South of Kings landing. However their main forces are clashing at sea against the throne. Their Lord is Roberts brother Stannis Baratheon, a man who claims that the throne is rightfully his.
The Starks reign over the North. Once wardens to the King their Lord Eddard Stark was like a brother to Robert. Eddard's own sister was to wed Robert, however the Targaryen King thought differently. The royal Prince coveted Eddard's sister and took her as his own. When Eddard's Father and brother came to Kings Landing to resolve the situation diplomatically they were tortured and killed. This sparked the rebellion that claimed the lives of many including those of house Targaryen. That was years ago, Robert son now sits the throne and the boy is nothing like his Father. Joffrey, the boy king was cruel and cowardly, his actions have wounded the Starks to many times to count. Eddard promised Robert he would watch over his son and raise him to be a just man. His promise was never fulfilled, instead Joffrey had him executed and unjustly blamed as a traitor to the crown. Now Eddard's son Robb Stark is waging war against the crown and claiming one for himself. They call Robb the King in the North and his Northmen are well known to be brutal and merciless in their battles against the Baratheons and the Lannisters.
House Lannister is the richest House of them all. Tywin Lannister is the current Lord and it is whispered that he shits gold. However no one in their right mind would dare say such a thing to his face. Twyin is the Grandfather of Joffrey and father to Jaime, Cersei, and Trion Lannister. He currently engages with Robb trying to keep the Northmen at bay while his Daughter and Son try to aid Joffrey in Kings Landing.
Faith of the Seven: Thousands of years ago when the Andals sailed across the narrow sea to conquer Azura they brought with them their religion. Once they arrived in Azura they met the First Men and their pagan Gods. Conflicts caused much distress and complications between the two people. However as time went on peace returned and the two people began to live in harmony, with time even the First Men adopted their language and religion.
The Seven are listed as thus, and prayed to in a Sept (a church) and the priests are known as Septoms.
The Father: represents divine justice, and judges the souls of the dead.
The Mother: represents mercy, peace, fertility, and childbirth. She is sometimes referred to as "the strength of women".
The Maiden: represents purity, love, and beauty.
The Crone: represents wisdom and foresight. She is represented carrying a lantern.
The Warrior: represents strength and courage in battle.
The Smith: represents creation and craftsmanship.
The Stranger: The Stranger represents death and the unknown. It is rarely prayed to
The Old Gods: Before the Andals, the First Men traveled to Azura across a land bridge in the North. Once settled into the Northern regions they came upon a non-human race. They were called the Children of the Forest, no smaller than a child when they matured into an adult, and lived deep in the forests and mountains. The Children were a magical race are the ones who carved faces into weirwood trees to represent the faces of their Gods. Little by little the Children of the Forest dwindled and soon became extinct, yet the First Men adopted their religion all the same. Worshipers of the Old Gods do not have elaborate ceremonies, holy texts, hierarchies of priests, or large structures of worship like followers of the Faith of the Seven. Instead they practice quiet contemplation in godswoods, small areas of forest which have been enclosed within a castle's walls. Worship in a godswood is centered on heart trees, which are great weirwood trees with a face carved into the bark. Weirwoods are considered sacred in the religion, and heart trees are the closest thing to a "shrine" that it possesses. Oaths and promises sworn in front of a heart tree are considered binding. The faith of the Old Gods is personal and less structured than other religions, though some basic social violations are proscribed by it, such as kinslaying, incest, and bastardy. It also upholds the laws of hospitality. The faith of the Old Gods of the Forest would appear to be a form of Animism, as it lacks specific identities for any particular deity in its belief system.
Ethnicity: (This can be left up to the imagination if you wish to play as a foreigner. However if you are born in Azura then you would be of the Andals or the First Men.)
Religion: (Again this is left up to your imagination, most if not all of the Andals worship the seven, the First Men however worship the Old Gods. More on this later)
Background: (Are you a North man fighting for his Lord, or are you a mercenary working to make a bit of coin. Be creative here and put some effort into it. I expect to see a two paragraphs here if not more.)
Appearance: (I will not except anime pictures, your character should look lifelike. I will also accept a description if a suitable picture cannot be found.)
Equipment: (Everything from armor to arms should be listed here. However be realistic about it, if your character is a cook or a slave it would not make since for him to have armor and a sword.)
Profession/Skills: (This is pretty much self explanatory.)
Titles: (This is only for characters who are Lords or Knights, both are entitled to lands, income, and soldiers.)
Sigil: (This is the banner of your house or lord you serve. A simple description is good enough, but if you want to make your own there is this site.)
No character in this RP is too big or small. Play as whoever you like whether that be a powerful Lord or a slave sold on the slavers market. There are endless possibilities to choose from and many stories to be told. This RP is largely based off A Game of Thrones and various other ideas. I can see this has potential to grow and last as long as one would hope given the right people were involved. I'm open to any and all suggestions anyone may have, such as non human species etc.
Note that if you do not see your character listed it is either because you used a minimal amount of effort to make a decent character, or you failed to change something in your character sheet when I asked you to. Those who put such little effort into their characters portray laziness and are unimaginative and I will tolerate neither in my RPs. If you take the time to change, add, or redo any characters I will be more than happy to look them over again.
