Mako ran to the test area his hands rapidly working securing his quiver of arrows to his back. His eyes darting left and right hoping that he isn't to late to take the exams. He stopped as he pulled up to the start stage and looked around noticed he was the only one there. "Oh no don't tell me I'm late." he said panting doubled over.
"No, your just early" A voice said from just in front of him, he looked up to see a screen in thin air. "I'm Charger I'll be the proctor, you may want to fine tune your devices for the coming test as you have about half an hour." The voice said before the screen turned off and then disappeared into thin air.

Mako nodded pulling out his bow Blitzkrieg and tested the draw weight of the string and the comforting weight. "Blitzkrieg you ready for this?" He asked the bow quietly as his hands expertly set up the few bits and pieces left to be set. He knew that his bow wouldn't talk back but he liked to pretend that it would.
Rumor had it that once a mage became 'b' ranked they could get a special device that had an A.I. He didn't want to loose Blitzkrieg, Blitzkrieg had been his only weapon since he was five, his mother gave it to him before she died and he had been practicing with it to perfect his aim.

Arraya yawned as she walked through the hall that would lead her to the testing area, her boots making gentle tapping noises as they hit the ground, her coat flowed behind her with her brisk pace and her hair hung down as usual, just like her coat, moving with her pace, she stretched as she walked, repeatedly stretching her arms, then pulling her sword, Veskale from the sheathe at he waist and swinging the sword around in circular motions by her sides, she had a grin on her face, today was the day she defied fate, today destiny would bow to her will and her family would no longer be known as talentless fools, her grin grew wider. Today she proved the world wrong.

She sighed as she stepped out into the testing area, Mako was here already, she waved to him, smiling before she continued with her repetitive stretching, "Well Veskale, we break the bonds of destiny today and cast aside our written fate, we'll pass this even if I have to try a million times," she whispered, more to herself than to her blade, after all, it couldn't talk back, but she was determined to make it through the test today, nothing would stop her now.

Mako heard his long time friend and training partner Arraya approaching and waved as he hung Blitzkrieg over his shoulders fully strung and ready for battle. He smiled to her "Just on time as always Arraya" He said with a teasing manner, better to be playful right before hand and ready for anything he reasoned.

The screen reappeared above them "Welcome Cadets Del'ale and Hideki" the proctor said to them with a warm smile "I am major Charger and I shall be your proctor for this test, You will have 10 minutes to reach the finish line, there will be challenges along the way. Also if your partner is unable to finish the race you shall automatically be disqualified from the test." He added with a more serious look on his face.
"Now if you'll both step up to the starting line we'll get this on the road." The proctor added with his friendly smile yet again.

Mako nodded walking to the line and taking Blitzkrieg off his back and getting in the starting position he was already preparing to fly but who knew what challenges await them.

Arraya smiled to herself and took her place on the line beside Mako, Veskale was already drawn and hung at her side in her relaxed grip, she glanced at Mako, "Stop worrying already, we're going to pass, I promise," she assured him, - and herself - a grin spread across her face as she tensed her body, ready to take flight, there was no way she'd fail this test, if teamwork was what it took, teamwork is what she would have to do, she didn't have any problems with working as a team with Mako, she breathed slowly, staying as calm as she could, waiting, it all finished now, the teasing, the ridicule, it ended in a mere ten minutes, her grin grew wider as she waited.

"Stop worrying already, we're going to pass, I promise," she assured him, - and herself - a grin spread across her face

He smiled at this as the count down timer appeared on the screen reading down the seconds till the test started 10. Mako became aware of the surroundings looking for any possible hiding places for the drones. 9. he felt his insides becoming more tight and he ran over all the spells he had mastered. 8. Time seemed to slow down t a crawl as he watched the second hand tick 7. It was just about here the time they had been waiting for 6. In a few more seconds they would be on their way to receiving b rank status and probably their first jobs with the defense force. 5. Now he felt slightly nausiated as anticipation filled him his mind began to process things again 4. then suddenly time resumed it's normal speed for him 3. 2. 1. BUZZ and the test had started. As soon as he heard the buzzer he pushed off the ground his instincts drawing on the magic that was in the air to allow him to fly as he scanned the horizon and spotted the finish line. He raised his bow and notched an arrow and slowly proceeded to the line. knowing that Arraya would be right there beside him.

That's when he saw it a red flash and a laser beam was fired at them or more at Arraya he moved in front of her and raised his palm "Protect" he said as a blue bubble appeared just before him and took the blast of the laser then faded away.
"That was close" not noticing the thousands of little red dots now forming along the building roof lines and the battle robots that were now flying into the air.

Arraya had taken off, staying close to Mako since the beginning, she had nodded a thanks to him when he defended her and now she glanced about frantically, watching the lights that lasers created as they charged, all along the rooftops and flying too, "Down!" she yelled as the glows grew to their brightest, she manipulated the magic in the air to allow her to flip sideways, she placed her hands firmly on Mako's shoulders and pushed as hard as she could, effectively pushing herself higher and hopefully pushing him down, she moved to the right, towards some of the drones along the building tops closest to her, "Slice Diver," she said, holding Veskale out to her side, level with the drones, Veskale seemed to almost glow as she flew alongside the drones, severing several in two, "You take that side, well cut our way through!" she yelled back to Mako as she narrowly dodged a laser, only to spin around a moment later and slice open another drone, she laughed as all hell broke loose, lasers left and right, all intent on allowing destiny its course, but she wouldn't let that happen, not after all she had done to get here, she dodged quite a few beams, another few hit her, burning sensations struck through her body and yet she continued to slash at the drones as she flew towards her goal.

Mako felt himself pushed down before he was able to compensate to stand still looking up at the laser beams flying left right and center. He quickly regained his minds as he started to fight the drones "Snipe Shot" He said as he hit a drone that appeared behind Arraya then turned to his own "Cross fire" he said as he charged magic into his bow and formed magical arrows and fired them taking down about twelve of them in the single attack. He immediately felt the drain from using too much magic in one go but couldn't stop so he flew after Arraya making sure that he kept shooting at any target moving or stationary. After what seemed like hours they were alone again, it appears the first stage of the test was over. He stopped next to Arraya looking a little tired. "Are you ok?" He asked as he realized that all the drones were for air combat. He felt so stupid, "of course!" he said to himself slapping his forehead and then added "We've got to walk the path or run it at least, their expecting us to fly so they got all flight drones." He said sounding confident.

[Gavaroc Fevinor]

Unbeknownst to the students participating in the test, they were being observed by perhaps the most experienced mage currently located at the facility. He looked... strange. He looked more like a wizard that came out of an old fantasy story; an old man in robes, who walked with a staff. It was of course, because of these stories, that Gavaroc Fevinor had chosen his image. Many of the younger Mages thought he, himself, was strange. But to be strange is to be interesting, Gavaroc believed. Normality is boring, and there are only two kinds of people in the world: the weird and the stupid. He'd much rather be the former than the latter, any day.

Gavaroc sat in the passenger seat of a helicopter, viewing the afternoon's entertainment. "Commander, shall we move lower? It's difficult to see from up here," asked the pilot.
"If I've told you once I've told you a hundred times, my name is Gav, not 'Commander,'" he emphasized the last word in a mocking tone. "Keep up the altitude. I don't want them seeing me."

"If I might ask... Gav... why are you watching these two in particular? They don't seem any different to any other students taking their test."
"Oh, wouldn't you like to know." He laughed a rather mysterious laugh; completely fake of course.

"So, are they going to pass or fail?" He asked the pilot.
"Honestly? I'd say fail."
"Would you now? And for how much would you be willing to say that?" Gavaroc grinned.
"Oh? Um... ten?"
"Pathetic!!!"
"Well fifty then, Comm-Gav."
"Perfect. You see, these two are going to succeed. The girl, she's got all the confidence and determination, but the boy... he's got great potential. And they're both very loyal to each other. Yes... they'll succeed." He relaxed in his chair, looking forward to see what would happen next.

Eve was standing by, out of site, but near where the tests were being held. It was her responsibility to heal any seriously injured students taking the test. It happened, rather frequently, the test wasn't exactly safe.

She was of the opinion really that these exams were unnecessarily dangerous. They did provide, a comprehensive look at the abilities of the students, but, things could happen. Eve was so afraid, that someone would die. She could heal some severe injuries, but, she couldn't bring people back from the dead. There were rumors about mages reviving people, but she never believed them, they were just rumors. It was okay, if someone died, in duty, but, if one of these, they were just kids really, died taking an exam? The whole thing made her nervous. She couldn't even watch.

Arraya nodded, "Right, good idea," she said to Mako, slowly easing her grip on the magic in the air so that she was lowered to the ground, why hadn't she noticed that? She rolled her shoulders slightly, panting, "I'm fine," she said, as much to Mako as to herself. Being close to the ground presented a new problem, she couldn't see the finish line from here, she sighed, "Well, you're the brains, lead the way and I'll make sure to tear apart anything that gets in our way," she said with a small chuckle, she had a general idea of which way to go but if she got it wrong she'd be kicking herself for the rest of her life, best to let him lead she decided, ready to follow.
