If wrongly used, yea I hate the word babe. However, if it is used when a husband/boyfriend calls his girlfriend/wife that it is common(viseversa).
The reason I hate it used in any other way is because 1. It is slang. 2. It is sexist if used wrong.

Oh, and two more things that bother the hell outa me: Sexists groups, in example: Woman Warriors! And raceist groups, in example: the KKK!
i can understand if my husband called me babe or even a friend that I know well enough. But friends in general or even strangers... gah mostly strangers.. i hate that word.
