Pretty easy to sort out really, just take a firm hand and make sure your players know that god modding is not tolerated. Considering some of the Gundams from the various series were damn OP even above and beyond the rest of them (I was going somewhere with this point I'm sure). Seriously though its pretty easy to keep a hold of if you have competent players.

I like putting holes in them with a modified SA80 with an RPG-7 duct-taped on top.
Then using said leg-servoes on tanks so they can jump and fly just as high as the titular mechs.
-Because nothing ever stopped them from doing this, or using jump/hover-tanks.
