the rain pounded against the window panes, creating hammering thuds that echoed around the room. the businessmen ignored the dreadful weather, and continued their talk about the monthly profits.
"...Continuing with this, our profits will drop thirty percent..."
the executives voice flowed around the room
"...In conclusion, we need to find someone with some bright idea's..."
Kairn smiled invisibly. he stepped through the wall and materialised outside the room. turning to the door he knocked, and opened it. "Sir?" he asked "sorry to interupt, but i have an idea you might like to hear"
he explaine about how the company should create another chain of shops around the town, the exact thing that the executive had just mentioned....

Name: Karina
Age:17
Appearance: Shoulder length black hair, light blue eyes, slender, 5' 7"
Clothes:Light blue jeans, black lace-up corset top, black leather ankle boots.
Gift:Nearly invincible, can heal herself from any fall or wound she's had so far.
Karina slid one foot out her bedroom window onto the gently sloped roof overhanging the porch, then paused as she heard a noise on the stairway outside her room. "Rina?" She heard her mother call, as she always did before knocking on her door.
"*Censor*, I was so close to being gone for the night." Karina thought, and then pulled the rest of her body back into her room, shutting the window softly behind her. She slid into her chair at her desk, grabbed the keyboard and opened the essay she was supposed to be writing.
A soft knock came at her door and she looked up. "Come in mom!" She called, smiling when her mother opened the door.
"I was just coming up to remind you that it's past your bedtime." Her mother said, a smile gracing her features.
"Is it really?" Karina faked surprise and looked at the digital clock sitting next to her bed.. the numbers clearly showing 11:50...she was supposed to be in bed 20 minutes ago. "Sorry Mom, I guess I got carried away in my essay." She said, saving and closing out of the almost finished write.
"Well better that then you were up talking to those boys you call friends again. I don't understand why you don't get along better with the girls in this city. They're all so sweet, with their Texan charm and all."
"Mom." Karina whined, her voice annoyed. "I'll make more friends, just give me a chance."
"Gnight Rina." Her mother replied, shutting the door and turning the hallway light off.
Karina waited 20 minutes until she was sure her mother wouldn't be coming back up, hit the light on her wall so that it shut off, and grabbed her favorite hoodie, a black one stating : "War Kills, But So Do I."
She slid her window open and slipped out onto the roof, shutting the window silently behind her. She turned and looked at the yard below, about 15 feet. If she landed this right, it would only twist her ankle, something she could heal in a few seconds. She closed her eyes and jumped, hitting the ground with a sickening PoP from her ankle, it was dislocated once again.
"Ouch." Karina whispered, pushing her ankle gently back into place and then standing up, it didn't hurt anymore...one of the benefits of being nearly invincible. She walked out of her yard and down the street, towards the downtown.
She didn't really know where she was going or what she was going to do tonight, just anywhere except the normality of her house.
She didn't know how much longer she'd be able to hide her secret from her family, but she knew this, when they found out, she'd better be far, far away.
Spotting a familiar face headed towards her in the crowd, she sub-consciously ran over to him and spoke up. "Hey Leon, whatcha doing?" She asked, a smile on her lips.
The promotion was all set up. if kairn landed the deal with the properties, he could set up the first three shops, and he would become the executive's second hand man. a huge pay rise, and a company car of no charge were waiting just around the corner.
"does your boss want the whole building?"
Kairn jumped, he had been daydreaming about the promotion and forgot about the sale. "um...just the lower floor, and the back room, for storage, but we are perfectly happy for you to keep the upstairs, for living and everything else" he smiled "You could even apply for a job running the new shop here if you like? i could get you a form" he added, shaking hands with the current owner.

Kairn walked outside. the rain pattered against his suit, soaking through almost instantly. kairn shuddered, and glanced around quickly, before de-materialising in a small shroud of mist. the rain passed through him as his body faded, and he quickly made his way toward the office blocks.

It was a cool winter night in the city, lamp posts started to flicker on as the day began to turn into night.
Leon walked down an alley way, his hands in his pocket. As he walked, a silver necklace with a cross on it swayed back and forth. He was severely ticked off... His parents had kicked him out of the house when he had figured out he had powers that were unexplainable. He had just snapped his fingers at his dog and somehow caught it on fire. Without even a wave goodbye, they forced him out of the house and... without getting into the words that were said, told him to never come back.
He turned and walked down the bustling street, newspaper stands and food stands littered the streets, not helping the traffic very much. Horns honked and hands hung out the windows with their middle fingers up as they shouted at the cars in front of them. Just another normal day in... paradise?

He shook the hair from his face as a familiar voice appeared behind him.
"Hey Leon, whatcha doing?"
He turned slightly, looking at Karina. "Hey! ...Got thrown out...?" His deep southern accent was unmistakable, though it was slightly twinged with irritance, not meant for her. He looked back down at the sidewalk, not paying a whole lot of attention to where he was going. "Wanna go somewhere...?" He glanced back up at her, turning slightly red.

"FIRED?!?!" Kairn shouted in frustration "But i landed that business deal, what do you mean im fired?!"
kairn's face grew red. without warning he fell through the floor, into the cubicles of computors below. "oops" he though to himself "now im in for it."
hundreds of heads turned toward him as he crashed into the water cooler. ice water slashed across the floor, and all over kairn.
he stood, and quickly de-materialised and ran away.

Karina looked puzzled for a moment. "Thrown out? Whatever for?"
She smiled and then produced an ID card from the pocket of her jeans, naming her as Krystal Torrence.
"Finally, I got my fake ID. So yeah, let's go somewhere, it's freezing out here!"
She rubbed her shoulders for emphasis.
She didn't know that Leon had "gifts" like her, or that anyone else in the world was like her, for that matter. She was completely ignorant of the fact that what she had was a gift, she viewed it as a curse that would make her leaver her family soon.
He shook his head, looking at her fake I.D. "Way to go..." He felt like hell about everything today.
"If... if you realy wanna know why I was kicked out... follow me..." He took a turn into an alley, his hand in his pokets and his head focused downward.
He had no real idea that other people had the powers either, he felt alone in a strange world that he no longer understood.
Karina stuck her ID back into her pocket with a frown, and followed Leon down the alley.
"What could be so terrible that his parents threw him out?" She wondered, following him closely.
"Look, it's like this. You tell me your secret, and I'll tell you mine." She said finally, stopping and leaning against a stack of crates.
"I cant believe I'm doing this. Im going to tell someone." She thought, furrowing her brow as she bit her lip.
