Guild Arena Omniverse Continuum - Planning & Plotting Thread

Recently, I've been stricken with the (not so) random desire to implement a larger scale continuum within the Arena here on RPGuild. Since I'm a bit short on time at the moment, I will give the basic rundown of the idea, and expand as necessary later on.

As we are all most likely aware, the Arena boasts, by default, no continuity. the results of one battle don't often hold effect on characters when they go into another, each one essentially starting on a clean slate. Characters that die are treated as having never died, and, for the most part, battles are rarely (never, as I've seen) calculated into the histories of characters. The idea at work with this thread is to establish a level of continuity between some battles, through which the characters can grown on the basis of what happens in combat, and whatever their players can justify in between. The ultimate goal is to both give the Arena a bit more sense of 'character', and offer another manner through which players may build characters, both as warriors, and as people.

I know it might not sound too polished; like I said, I'm a bit stressed for time right now. Feel free to ask questions, and offer up ideas of how to make an effective, and fair system for such a set up to work under.

As you can see, I have kidnapped your icon, and am holding him hostage. If you wish for the safety of Bunny, then you will do as instructed, and send a predetermined amount of money to an undisclosed entity in a top secret location.

This reminds me of Persistent World, if you do not mind me saying.

So, the way my mind seems to have understood it, you both have decided that the Arena could have a continuum, and past battles would be capable of affecting a character, producing a more "alive" and evolving character.

But, what if the character dies?
People do not generally like to include past battles (Though I actually think this is a pretty good idea) because they have a "favorite character" that they want to keep 100%. They don't want to lose their "favorite."

Or, will it be "divine intervention" that they will still be alive, but have a pretty gruesome scar from the last, fatal hit?

Also, if one were to lose an arm in a battle, would they be lacking that arm in future battles?
Personally, I would enjoy that, because I'm slightly sadistic with my characters (who isn't?).

Death will be dealt with by revival.

And yes, lose an arm, it stays gone unless you or someone else is willing to heal you.

So a character that dies in continuum remains dead until revived.

As far as I've ever seen, the death-revival cycle only plays through two to three times. In the instances I've seen, the cycles were spread over the course of a few years (in the player's time) anyways, since a lot of battles were fought under the pretense of friendly competition amongst friends, and a fair portion of them were never actually completed all the way through.

And I assume the rest is just like the original Arena?

Character(s) vs. Opponent(s). A duel, battle royal, team match, tag-team match, etc.
You can make as many characters as you want, but you can only use how many are allowed, etc.
Fantasy/Sci-fi allowed. Any battlefield, weapons, abilities, etc.

I do believe so, we've only discussed basics; I'd have to go and get all the comments. xD

Starting level would be around 4(Strong enough to be brought to the dimension, weak enough to have to fight to survive), slowly growing and developing. Monitored characters to make sure people aren't coming in with ZOMGHOLYSHIT abilities.

Level 4 || Examples of Level 4 powers and abilities include Mad Scientist level genius and scientific ability, long ranged telepathy, magical powers that do not involve a divine patron, and the ability to shoot flaming bats with magic arrows of light without the aide of that damnable fairy partner.

    "Hey!"

    "Listen!"

Anyways, so this is like a.... RPG?

Start at level 1 (AKA Level 4 Skill Level) and work your way up to become the #1 Hero and kill the "Big Bad" (who unfortunately was the previous #1 Hero).

I do believe I am fully interested in this now.

    So how does development work?
How do they improve their techniques/gain more skills, to be more specific?

    To be most specific:
How do you get from Level 4 to Level 5?

Yes, this is something like a RPG.

Yes, thought I don't know if there will be a Big Baddie, though that does sound kickass. xD

That's something we'll have to work out, how to get to the next level; cuz it won't be a one fight ZOMGNEXTLEVEL!

I venture to say something like HOR, where you start with 1000 points, and each fight, you wager 10%, winner gets the losers wagered points added to their own. But, I don't know.

great idea, i love the concept of building a history and adding your highs and lows as you travel through the arena.

on the subject of advancement, perhaps you could consider having character evolution tied in with the community, should you perform well in combat you might get nominated for recognition then perhaps those well respected or selected members (perhaps even the gms of the persistent world) would review your characters feats of strength and determine whether or not he/she deserves a promotion. could be a monthly thing maybe?

could rp a ceremony and whatnot...

as for the setting it could be a planet where dimensions collide, like the catch all for the leftovers from other worlds allowing all manner of creature and warrior in all manner of strange places.

i'd say go for a 'dark tower series' theme, perhaps you could require a minimum number of sanctioned battle wins (wins to be determined by gm/judges)

i also recommend my old theory of limiting posts for combat, thus removing the need for kill shots, but that might break the immersion...

anyway, i'd love to be on board for this project.

In a continuum like this, kills are necessary.

How many posts would you suggest, however, just in case?

Hmm, we'll have to think about having a board of people give out promotions. A lot to discuss it seems
