    Your Gender and Preference

Not that kind! Get your head out of the gutter.

I think I know what the results will show, but I am curious anyway. And yeah, I've been wanting to add this poll for a long time, I just haven't gotten around to it.

Only four answers. You can't say "I do both" because everyone will say that. You have to choose whichever you tend to gravitate to when choosing an answer.

And me? I'm a woman and I tend to roleplay men. I don't know why really. I can give it a bunch of guesses. Like this one: Maybe when I come up with a character idea I naturally go to a default of male and they tend to stay that way unless I'm jostled early enough in the creation process to make them female.

Of course it could be me being sexist. I tend to feel that if I make a female character she'll be whiny and I don't want to deal with that. There's also the fact that I kind of find female characters less interesting then male characters. But I think it stems from this one quote I heard from someone that if I have a female protagonist only women will read the book, but if you have a male protagonist men and women will read the book. That kind of messed me up and made me think I had to have a male protagonist in all my works. Since I got used to writing from a boy's POV, when I went back to roleplaying after several years it was just easier for me to think of male characters.

Or maybe I really AM attracted to men and I'm fulfilling my fangirl fantasies by coming up with these characters!

...Yeah, people who know my characters know better than that...

    I do both.

I find it easier to play males, though I would say I'm rather proficient at playing females as well. I suppose it's because what I've read about women have been tied directly into literature, where real women vary few and far between. I just have this mindset that people have characteristics about women being whiny, emotional, and either believe in love at first sight, be incredibly outwardly self-loathing, or believes she will never find true love to be in every female, even though I know that is all crap.

Men on the other hand, are much more flexible.

    So yeah, I blame literature.

I generally stick to males, being a male, mostly because I guess I doubt my abilities to depict women well.

    My Roleplaying Preferences:
    Spoiler

What about males who pretend to be females who play females? Been encountering quite a few of those lately.

That aside, I'm female and I pretty much exclusively play male characters. When I started out RPing back when I was nine, I played canon roles and only female characters. When I was about 17 I finally played an original character, and it was a male character. Since then I've found I really enjoy playing male characters - and it's hard for me to even want to play females. They tend to always end up seeming cliche to me - the bad ass hot chick, or the shy girl with heroic tendencies. Just, not my bag anymore.

So, my vote is for female who plays males.

Male who only roleplays as a male. I don't nor do I wish to understand woman enough to be able to roleplay as them.

I just stick with what I know, which is why I roleplay women as a woman.

I'm female and tend to play females.

With that being said, I don't only play females. I play males just fine but would prefer female. I don't like playing males for women who only play female though. I also enjoy doubling, so playing either gender is fine by me, as long as it's fair and fun and everyone is happy.

I do not have a single female RP character.

Got a few reoccurring NPCs that happen to be female, but they are empty vessels for purpose of plot pushing.

Wait, does a mostly emotionless A.I. construct that happens to have a female name count as a female character?

I am female but I tend to play females, because I don't think I'm that good in playing as a male. However, I'm learning to roleplay as a male character~ ^^

Not (fully) back yet, but wait for me, RPGuild...I will return one fine day. Yes...one fine day...*stares thoughtfully into the distance*

Well, there's a certain character archetype that I tend to follow the path of. I do add diversity to my character's, but I almost always have my character's be a bit more intelligent.

So obviously they cannot be female.

Nah, I usually RP men...just because I'm able to get into their heads more than females, being a man myself.
