Kaoru was pained on the inside. Akki had gotten hurt like this on his watch. Only a few feet away from him even. He kept a neutral expression though. He didn't want Akki to think that he was blaming himself, even if that was the case. "That's good. So that means I will see you at the gates again tomorrow too." He spoke, looking at her as she sat at the window. Akki wanted to thank him...that was a bit unexpected. Hadn't she said thanks already? What more would she want to say? But instead of speaking the girl hopped onto the ground and over to the bed. There she opened one of the drawers.

She wanted to give him something, and Kaoru felt his heart start to race just a tiny bit. She may not remember everything from the past, but he did. And that included his feelings for her. To receive a gift even though she didn't remember...it actually have him a feeling of longing. Of wanting more. He smiled a little though, and took the little box from the girl. This was something he didn't understand about Shinji. Thinking that he was just toying with Akki. While all he ever did was watch over her. He never asked for anything. Things like this were out of her own will.

Slowly Kaoru opened the box, even these movements looking composed and a bit gentlemanly. The man had been raised to be like that after all. To one day be a leader, which he was now. Still though, his mind thought about possibilities on what Akki might have gotten her.

Akki watched in silence as Kaoru opened the box. Once the trimmings were removed from the box. Akki smiled as her gift came into view. It was simple chain with Kaoru’s name engraved on the middle plate. On the back of the cover it displayed a few words Akki’s had the chairman especially imprint: “My protector.” The injured prefect looked on wonder what Kaoru’s reaction would be. Would he like, would he hate? Maybe he wasn’t saying thing because he didn’t want to her feeling -The night class President was not a rude man-.

All these questions whirled around inside Akki’s head. Normally when she gave someone a gift, Akki knew exactly what to give the person. This time around had been different, although she was acquainted with Kaoru, Akki really didn’t know him. His favorite school subject, what hobbies he enjoyed? What kind of music did he liked, were all a mystery to Akki.

After the night class system had been invented. The lady prefect had been thrilled by the prospect of having Kaoru around more often, but like the very observant overbearing person Shinji was. He had noticed Akki’s intent, and made sure she was far busy, to even spend a second of her time with Kaoru. From then on her only interaction with the Night Class President had been only in passing. “Its nothing grand.” Akki smiled at the man in front of her. Doing her best to keep whatever blushes that was trying take over her face at bay. “Just something to express my gratitude.” She looked away trying to stare at anything, but Kaoru's face.

Once the wrappings were finally taken off, a small box revealed itself. Kaoru opened that too, and inside was a chain. A plate was attached in the middle. Even though he was usually so composed and withdrawn in his emotions, even he couldn't hide his smile this time. Kauro hadn't dreamt of something like this to happen for a very long time, if ever.

It was funny. Akki hardly knew anything about him. Or...hardly remembered at least. Yet, she had gotten him a gift that he wouldn't change for almost anything in the world. There would be a few things, but they had to do with being closer to her so...those were out of the question. "My protector." Kaoru mused, still smiling. "It's lovely. Thank you, Akki." He spoke kindly, even his voice sounding...warmer. Less distant from his usual voice. He didn't wear necklaces though. So instead, the man wrapped it around his wrist, and clipped it closed there. "I will wear this from now on." It was a bit hard to keep composed at this time, but he had at least somewhat managed. His training to become a leader paid off at least a little at times like this.

It meant the world to Akki that Kaoru had liked her present. Although sometime it felt like they were miles apart. Akki couldn’t stop this desire to be close to Kaoru. She had never really been able to understand why. Other then saving her from that vicious vampire, there was really nothing else between. Yet whenever Kaoru was around Akki had a sense like she known him all her life. It was preposterous yes, but the feeling wouldn’t go away. “I’m glad you like you like it Kao...” Akki cut her sentence short, as the door to the medical bay opened to admit Shinji.

“How are you feeling…” He stopped in mid-sentence, his eyes turning hard as he noticed Kaoru. “What are you doing here Ogura?” He folded his arms across his chest. Trying to reframe from every instinct to snatch Akki out of this room, and away from this bloodthirsty monster. “Night classes have already started. Don’t you think you should be there, as you are their President?” Shinji pointed out, making it clear to the vampire his presences was no longer needed here. “Stop it Shinji!” Akki interjected. “Kaoru just came by to visit.”

If only Akki knew...that feeling of familiarity wasn't something weird at all. It wasn't just from Kaoru acting like she knew Akki all of her life either. That was true, but there was far more to it. The door went open, and there stood their interruption again. Shinji...just like Kaoru seemed to always be there when Akki was in trouble, so it seemed that Shinji was always there when Kaoru was close to Akki. At times like this it was really becoming bothersome...

"Shinji. I already expected to see you." However this time Kaoru made no movement to stand up. He just kept sitting there calmly. "I asked permission from the chairman, and instructed the rest of the night class. So no, I don't have to go just yet." This he all said with a very calm and composed voice. Unlike Shinji, his voice never sounded cold or angry. Well, no one had ever heard him sound either of those at least. "This is a normal, proper visit. However, are you sure you can be here, Shinji? Shouldn't you be doing your rounds?" The man smiled ever so slightly, looking straight at the prefect as he spoke.

Shinji never could understand why he allowed the smug vampires words to get under his skin. He only knew it did, and he loathed Kaoru Ogura for it. The male prefect was well aware he still had other had other duties to fulfill. He had even been prepared to fulfill them. It was only the discovery of finding Ogura not in the class procession that had pulled him away. Shinji had immediately ushered the last remaining girl back to the dorm, and came straight here. At first he had not heard any voices coming from the medical area. Believing that Akki was safe, and alone. Shinji had just pushed right in to have a peek. Finding Ogura as her current visitor had tore any illusion of peace from the prefects mind. “My duties will keep, but what about you Ogura? Won’t your little group of follower go astray without their leader?” He fired back hoping that his words gave him any type of reason to make the vampire leave the room.

“Shinji please stop.” Akki looked at him. Her eyes pleading with him to be civil, Shinji sighed. He never liked it when Akki was in distress, she never cried, but always made it know to him that he had hurt her. “I’ll finish my rounds, and be back later to check on you.” He looked at Ogura, his face a clear warning. The battle between them was far from over. Shinji left the click of his shoes descending down the hall. The male prefect had a job to finish, but once he was done. He would be waiting at the night class dorm for Ogura.

Once Akki was certain Shinji was gone, she gazed apologetically back into Kaoru’s direction. “I apologize for that Kaoru. Shinji is very over protective of me.”

Shinji tried to lash back, going on his 'followers' not staying in check when he wasn't there. But that wasn't true...it was actually because of him that vampires all over the country stayed in check...in public at least. And he better not find out any of them stepped out of line either. However before he could retort, Akki already stepped in. After hesitating, and reluctantly. The man smiled a little bit, but once the boy left Kaoru put his attention to Akki again.

Akki apologized to him on behalf of Shinji. But that was pointless really. "Akki...please don't apologize on his behalf. You know it's more than that." The man smiled gently at the girl, showing he had no anger towards Shinji for this. "Shinji hates me. I know that. He doesn't want me around you at all. That won't stop me though. I will keep seeing you when I can."

The lady prefect was anything, but happy when Shinji left. She knew that her adoptive brother had a heated dislike for vampires. Though after this episode Akki realized she had been clearly mistaken. Shinji didn’t just dislike Kaoru, he just plain hated him. Akki shivered. Hate was such a foreign word. Even after all the tragedy she had been through. Akki still could not manage to hate the vampire who took away her parents. Was she angry with the monster yes, but hate did not even come close. Shinji had obviously let his own experience cloud his own judgment. She chewed on her lip staring apologetically at the vampire. "I apologize for that Kaoru. Shinji is very over protective of me.”

"Akki...please don't apologize on his behalf. You know it's more than that." She listened in silence, as Kaoru continued to speak. "Shinji hates me. I know that. He doesn't want me around you at all.” Akki winced; hating that what Kaoru was saying was true. “That won't stop me though. I will keep seeing you when I can." She nodded, content by the vampires words. She wanted to be in his arms, basking in the same safe familiarity she had experienced when she had fallen.

How could a person feel so safe with someone, and know nothing about them? Kaoru was so familiar, and still a stranger. Akki reached out placing her hand on Kaoru’s check. Do I know you Kaoru? She thought to herself, searching his face for anything that would trigger something. Was it a past life? A passing introduction? Akki sighed; disappointed that nothing came to mind. “I’m glad you will never give up protecting me Kaoru.” The lady prefect was speaking the truth. With Kaoru around she was already lost. If he ever left her side, Akki wasn’t certain she would ever be the same.

Kaoru wanted to teach Shinji a lesson really. But sadly the rules also applied to him. Attacking a human just because of words was forbidden. Heck, any reason except for self-defence was forbidden. Having to be an example, he would never do things like that. He couldn't. The man was snapped out of his thoughts when Akki spoke up again. The man smiled. There was more to it than just protecting her. But he wouldn't tell her that. That would definitely be a bad thing to do at this time. Besides, how could you even tell such a thing to a girl that was living her own life? No, he had to keep quiet.

"I'm going to class now. I can't stay away for too long." Kaoru spoke, standing up from the chair. Though he didn't keep it at that. He decided to give a little...'thank you' for the chain around his wrist. The man took Akki's hand, and then gently placed a kiss on the back of it. He gave her a slight smile then and turned around. "See you tomorrow at the gates, Akki." And soon he was out of the room.

The night class had behaved it seemed. They were all there in the class and no smell of blood, so no one had gone out to...'grab a bite'. Everyone greeted Kaoru with a 'welcome back, Ogura-sama.' And he just nodded and moved to his seat. Night classes went over without a hitch, though there was a bit of complaining about the blood pills they had developed. Indeed, it was no substitute for the real thing. Not really. But it kept their thirst in check, and did have a vague taste of blood to it. That was at least something.

After class the students all went back to their dorm. It had been a bit of a long day, and they all wanted to have a bit of rest. Plus, there was a banquet waiting for them inside. Kaoru joined them too of course. He had already visited Akki, and she needed to rest so she could get back to her duties the next evening.

“There you go Akki. No more brace.” The lady prefect beamed at the nurse. She was beyond ecstatic to finally have her brace removed. Being stuck in the stuffy old medical bed had been driving her crazy. Akki was ready to get back to work. “Thanks nurse Mizuki.” She jumped off the bed, waving goodbye as she head out the door. It was already late in the afternoon; the day classes were over for the day. Most of the female students were probably gathering outside the night class dorm room gates. Shinji was most likely already trying to contain the situation, but Akki would surprise him, and save the day.

She raced outside the academy building, heading towards the dorm areas. Her adoptive sibling was standing outside the boundary are of the perimeter. The girls were trying their best to push past, but Shinji wasn’t having any of it. Akki smiled at his high handedness. Whenever her adopted sibling did something the lady prefect could at least say he gave one hundred percent. Akki stepped in front the crowd trying to release some of his load. Smiled at the other prefect. “Prefect Akki reporting for duty Captain.” Shinji blinked surprised to see the lady prefect in attendance. “Aren’t you supposed to be in the medial bay?” Akki smiled. Leave it to Shinji to be such a worrywart. “Nurse Mizuki released me of course.” She directed to him toward her completely healed ankle.

“You would have known, if you had bothered to come back to medical bay to help me study last night.” The male shrugged, the way he remembered it Akki hadn’t been to interested in study with Ogura around. “I figured you were rather preoccupied with other things, to focus on studying.” Akki ignored his comment. She would not be drawn into an argument with Shinji. Her mood was far to good to allow him to spoil the moment. Akki set her mind to the task at hand as sun went down to admit the night classmen.
