While I am not as well-read on this aspect of this disaster as I would like, there are several news sites who have begun to more extensively cover it. I do know that people have begun testing positive for radiation exposure and that evacuations in the areas potentially affected has begun.

Got a call from my brother, they have been getting a lot of activity in Yokota Air Base. Mostly USMC and a lot of supply traffic coming in, going to be better once we can get this relief effort onto it's feet.

Long story short, things are serious but stable, the death toll is still rising but has surpassed 7500, and they were able to reconnect a cable to the cooling system that may prove to be outrageously helpful. Radiation-tainted food has been found as far as 90 miles away and over 11,000 are still missing.
*checks watch* You know... I've been waiting a week for that yen exchange rate to go up... I know it's selfish and all, but 79 on the US Dollar? Come on! You just had a crisis! It should at least be even... I'm not hoping for what it used to be (¥112 to $1) but honestly. You'd think it'd go up at least an inkling.
