Atelar felt buffeted by the wave of thoughts that just seemed to pour out of their new comrade, whom he still fully intended on questioning after they got over this gate, and fought back the feeling of annoyance from the massive chunk of thought process. Atelar also felt Kostvel's thought, and agreed, albeit grudgingly, with Kostvel's opinion on his magic. Powered up or not, it was still quite unruly inside the wild magic zone. While it had worked perfectly during their fight against the elf's skeleton army, Atelar' wasn't so sure that he might not encase the place in ice the next time he attempted an ice spell. Atelar noted that Kostvel shielded his thoughts with a wall of black, as dark as stone, and Atelar decided it would be best to do something similar.

Unlike Kostvel, Atelar could not concentrate on a single image comfortably, instead, he used a plain, low chant, various magical syllables strung together in and endless loop, they had no conceivable effect, but was something he learned when first picking up magic to help concentrate and organize himself. perhaps it would fulfill the same purpose in here.

"I could try that ramp," Atelar suggested to Kostvel, referencing his thought about an ice ramp. "It might be easier to make something like a ice crystal, and try climbing its arms, but I can still try it." He said as he walked a good distance away from the others, lest they get caught in the magic zone's wild effects.

He cracked his fingers and rolled his neck, and ceased the pointless chant in his head, concentrating on real magic words, and prepared to release the magic onto the wall.

I can't tell if Myke is standing on something or did an amazing job of timing a jump. I'd like to imagine it was a jump
    Neither, he is floating
I'm pretty sure he's just that tall
No he was on a table
I don't know.. Have you seen how tall he is?

"That, or maybe there are some things around we can use to get up. Me, I am rather careful with the use of magic in a place like this. Not that my spells are affected..." Glith promptly cut down the volume of his voice, gazing around at stuff that was present in the keep. He pointed at the ladders that the party used to get down earlier:

"How about you folk try and use those? Seem long enough, since you just climbed down on them."

The currently most useless party-member, the silenced girl who’s main forte was the magic she now could not cast, was incapable of doing much to assist. She merely could watch as Kostvel examined the walls, Atelar prepared a spell and Glitch suggested to use the ladders over there.

How much do ladders like those weight? They were tall enough to reach all the way up there. But what kind of material were they made of and how much did they weight? The girl had never before had any reason to find out, since most of the time she’d have had other means of getting in somewhere. Huh? Getting in where? Ah, well. No matter at this time. Those ladders are created to be brought to walls and used by warriors to ferry people upwards. There is no doubt they are meant to be able to be carried. She didn’t know how much Glith or Kostvel were able to carry, but she was sure it would be enough.

Yes, the ladder worked fine, if not the wall was about to be rendered obsolete with this spell of Atelar’s…

The girl prepared to walk over and aid in the transportation of the ladder in case the spell didn’t do anything particular, but she was also prepared that in case the wall became passable for the rest with the spell she could change direction to towards the wall. That was all she could do right now.

The ladders seemed to be made of some tropical hardwood, towering over seven meters in their length and probably weighing twice the weight of the girl. Moving them alone would probably require some serious force.

Kostvel took a look at the ladders that Glith had mentioned, casting a critical eye over them. He was sure that it would take at least two of them to move one, but with his and Glith's strength it he figured it would be possible. As he paced over to stand in front of the ladders, a thought came to mind on how they were supposed to get down the other side of the wall once they were on top. Moving a ladder to the base of a wall was one thing, but pulling it up and over to get down the other was another.

“Think we can use one of these to get down the other side as well? Or are there any different plans in that matter?” He asked, turning back towards Glith and Atelar.

“Do we have any idea what's on the other side of these walls? Like a moat or something soft?” He commented. Getting past fortifications was never one of his strengths, instead he was just good at building them. And although that entailed knowing a bit about countering defences, that kind of planning and strategy was something he was never interested in.

Atelar's attitude fizzed. Oh yeah, there were ladders. They could use ladders instead. No need for unpredictable magic and ice, we'll just go with the ladders. Atelar looked at them reluctantly. He sure hoped they weren't expecting him to be able to help lift those. He was only a little bit more than 3/4th's Kostvel's height, and his constitution was less than half. He would not have been able to even budge the ladders. Plus with their height and already noticeable sag, might snap if they tried to pull it off the wall. The issue of getting down was still not resolved either.

Not having released his spell, he kept it at the ready in an orb that remained in his hand, and sat down on the stone floor. "You and Glith are gonna have to go at that," Atelar commented, "I'm not gonna be much use with a task like that,"

Atelar sighed, they were this far and they were stumped by something as trivial as a large locked gate. Wait. Gate. The gate was just locked, or jammed or something. Atelar smacked himself in the head. Duh. He got up and started walking towards the gate.

"If its a gate.. I could just find the damn lock and try to open it, or maybe we could find an opening mechanism or something like that. I doubt it would be broken, the rest of this place seems to have survived the test of time."

"I'm sure all of you can take care of the gate. Shouldn't be too hard, the ladders seem light enough to be carried by two or three people. I will go and check the outside of the gate, there may be something there. Let's see if you're worth your money." Glith leaped against the wall, the fanged gloves clinging to the loose rocks as he climbled up. Within a few seconds, he was gone and the sound of cracking metal was heard on the other side.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The surroundings of the gate revealed a large chain that led to a lever. The chain vanished in the top of the tower and seemed quite heavy. The lever was attached to a drum of sorts, but it was missing the middle axle, making it impossible to turn.

... Suddenly, Glith showed himself capable of climbing the walls perfectly fine. The heaviest of them was the one that could get over the easiest? Well, maybe not the easiest, the girl was rather confident she could scale that wall rather easily, but when it was only Kostvel and Atelar she technically COULD have used her crow-transformation spell to carry them over one by one… maybe. She wasn’t sure how strong it was, since she never had to carry anyone with it. It had always only been a spell for getting wherever she wanted, like… over a wall. In her trade, going solo had been an advantage at all times. It would appear the experience of going solo would be worth little during this. Oh, well. As long as her Glith doesn’t… um… as long as she doesn’t think about that when others can hear her thoughts… and the like…

Putting on a slightly determined face, the girl ran over to the ladders. Yes, they appeared to be long enough to support being put over there… hold it… how long had these ladders been here? If these ladders had been here since the time of the rest of the things in this place, it should be riddled with damage from old age and should not possibly hold the weight of a person. Yet, they had climbed down the ladders, so did that mean the ladders are a lot newer than the surrounding material? Or was she merely overestimating the amount of damage such ladders would take over time? Well… um… that’s not her expertise! As long as they held, she should be happy! That’s just… just how it should be! Convenient and nice! So there!

Kostvel! Since Glith choose this time to take an arbitrary scan of the area outside… he might be the one with the most toughness, and therefor best suited to doing that without being hurt… but she was a ranger among other things, scouting should be something she’d be doing, really, I could escape if things turned bad… Oh, what am I thinking? Since Glith went over the wall, I guess it is up to us to move the ladders. So, let’s get this thing moving! Ice Wizard! You too! If you don’t cast that spell, show the fact that you are a man, or at least soon will be! Come over here and help!

With that, the girl attempted to move the ladder, assuming the males would support her…

Kostvel silently watched Glith scramble over the walls with ease, and then turned his attention to the ladder. The girl had already began to attempt it, but didn't look like she could do all that much. Placing his halberd half on the ground he paced over to give her a hand. Placing the bulk of the ladder against his back, he flexed his muscles a bit before doing anything. He could lift the ladder fairly easily, he would just need Atelar and the girl to steady it as they walked. With a quick intake of breath he pushed up with his legs pulling the ladder away from the wall to lean across his back. Once that was accomplished he took his first step toward their objective, which was a little unsteady but not too bad.

As he moved the ladder, his mind thought on how they were to get down the other side. Most of his ideas centred around Atelar's magic, but he didn't really know what Atelar could actually do. As he thought on these things they finally managed to get the ladder across to the appropriate wall. Kostvel dropped it unceremoniously to clack against the stones at the top of the wall, sending a shower of dust and debris down.

Taking a moment for a short breather, he pushed the base of the ladder out slightly to create a better climbing angle before climbing up himself. The ladder swayed and bowed slightly with every step up the rungs, but didn't crack or break under the weight of Kostvel and his armour. And after a few seconds he had finished his ascension and stood on top of the wall, before realizing that he had forgot his halberd half down on the ground of the courtyard.

“Hey can one of you guys pitch up my halberd that I forgot?” He asked the other two left down on the ground. He didn't really want to put the ladder under the stress of him going down and back up it. With that he also turned around and surveyed the scene, primarily the area right about the wall, and the chain which ran to the gatehouse mechanism.

The area around the wall didn't seem as dark an uninviting as the inner depths of the keep. Right underneath the feet of the warrior the wall sloped back down and into a slightly muddy and wet foundation of stone. A few meters from the wall, the branches of a dead and dry tree waved silently in the wind. The forest looming beyond it was just as dead as this hulk of wood. Glith was nowhere to be seen.

The chain for the gate ran up a good half a dozen meters higher into the massive gatehouse, disappearing on top of the tower. The dark opening of a door could be seen not far from Kostvel, leading inside the construction.
