well technically the King and Queen are dealing with the rebellion who broke into the castle and attempted to kill the whole family, which is why the princess had to run away, the King and Queen were protected but the princess only had her one guard that night. 
the Demon King doesn't know that so he still thinks his soldier is still trying to kill her.
also yeah it does sound like a fairy tale, but I'm still going to go ahead with this.
