30 minutes after Nya and Morrin's departure... ----- What initially seemed like a good idea quickly turn sour. Nya thought they could get the jump on their foes, but apparently, the invaders had not only eluded their scan, but also managed to sneak columns of droids into their last line of defense. Her mind briefly returned to a tactical course she took twenty years ago, no battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy, the instructor told her. Well, except this time Nya didn't even meet her enemies and the plans already failed. The two VAAT/e dropships are now heading back to their last battery, where an unexpected assault is taking place. The pilots flew at maximum speed, burning skyscrapers blew by their sides as streaked flashes. At the distance, Nya could see a smoldering shipwreck, a destroyed CIS starship. That's probably where they got their droids from, Nya pondered. Within their sectors, the destroyed ship was the only CIS presence. "Commander Moire," the crew chief of the second gunship alerted her. This man is a clone commander, known by his code as CC-907, or his callsign, "Zed". He was diverted from the GAR to her ragtag defense group during the early stages of the invasion. Zed's dropship comprised entirely of clone soldiers, while Nya's dropship contained volunteer security officers and the Jedi Morrin Vulkas. "The AA battery is right up ahead, it is still operational but unknown contacts are trying to disable it." "I see it Zed," Nya responded. Using the zoom function of her visor, she saw no friendly units near the AA gun. Switching to the common Republic military channel, she broadcasted into her comm system. "All republic forces, two friendly aircraft will be engaging enemy contacts near turret 6. If you are still alive, keep your heads down and avoid friendly fire." The enemies appeared to have taken cover beside the turret. Their close proximity to the AA system meant that any heavy firepower from the dropships will cause collateral damage to the battery. The concussion missiles are definitely not an option then, as their blast will knock out the gun itself. The dropships heavy lasers however, can be used to a limited capacity, as suppressive fire. Just as long as they don’t shoot too close to the guns. As for neutralizing these hostiles, Nya and her troops have to get their hands dirty. “Pilots,” Nya ordered both her aviation officer and the clone pilot. “Strafe the turret perimeters, don’t fire too close to the guns.” “Yes, ma’am.” The pilots responded. “All ground forces,”Nya shifted her command. “Get ready to fast rope into combat after the strafing run. Be prepared to engage heavy infantries and force sensitive combatants.” The dropships slowed as their weapons came online. Nya’s aircraft took to the left side of the turret while the clone dropship closed in on the right. On her command, barrages of deadly bolts descended from the sky. The laser shots kicked up smoke and dust from the ground, obscuring vision and blocking line of sight. “Go, everybody on deck now.” Nya waved. Ten security officers slid down their ropes from her dropship while on the opposite side, ten clone troopers did the same. Nya took a brief glance to Morrin, nodded her head in approval before taking her line and descending toward the ground.
