Here, I'll make this rule for NPCs.

If you want to interact with an NPC go ahead and do so, don't make someone else decide the interactions for you.

But, make sure you do the actions and personality of the NPC according to how the person who created the NPC sees them as. In other words, interaction.t with NPCs freely, but make sure you're not stepping on the creator's toes.
