YOU CAN FIND THE OOC HERE!

http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/37327/posts/ooc

I cannot seem to find any new RPs that interest me (I've looked for the last couple days), so when in doubt, make your own!

PLEASE NOTE: This is a dieselpunk RP, not a steampunk RP.

BACKGROUND

A little over a year-and-a-half ago, I ran the idea of an RP called The Road to Zion. I unexpectedly had to quit the RP, as I could not correlate good grades and running such a large roleplay.

The Road to Zion is based in a world called Adam (working title), a world shattered apart, sending huge chunks of land masses into the sky. Over a few hundred/thousand years, new civilizations began to emerge and industrialize and begin warring with one another on these individual land masses. Imagine, if you will, continents floating in the sky--instead of ocean separating them, they are separated by air.

The technology and the world is steampunk, with a few other interesting inventions yet to be seen. Essentially, this is Star Wars meets Skies of Arcadia meets other stuff.

I'm not going to go over the details of the original roleplay, as they will be heavily revised. However, I will say that it involved sending the roleplayers in a ship to the edges of the known world to find Zion, a place that might hold the key for humanity's salvation. I realized I don't like these 'save the world' scenarios, as they mean I have to do all the work to lead forward the story. I realized, I don't like this. I want to write with people, not create an all encompassing story with twists and turns and stuff to keep y'all interested.

PLANZ

This time I want to do something different. I want to restructure and make this world a sandbox-style RP, with a few dedicated (by dedicated I mean posters who want to write with me) roleplayers. There are three ways I want to go about this, and any input is greatly appreciated:

1. Players will be part of a band of outlaws-pirates-smugglers, and so forth. They are a private company that wants to take advantage of a war between two countries. I will set-up the general heists and overlying plot-line, and players will take control of one main character (who will be a pirate), and an unlimited number of minor supporting characters (not ones directly influencing the war such as politicians and military leaders).

2. Players will be part of a political rebellion within their city-state/nation or whatever, helping to destroy the government from within. This one is more political, less action oriented, and would involve less piloting. The idea of a politically and espionage centered steampunk RP is definitely interesting however. Players will take control of one main character (part of the separatist movement), and many minor supporting characters, but not characters central to the plot (read above).

3. Players will be able to do whatever they want, whenever they want, with whoever they want, in this huge world. Only exceptions are characters that are directly influencing the war, such as politicians and military leaders.

#1 and #2 is preferable because it will allow us to write together, but it requires more work on all of our parts to making a cohesive story. #3 allows for more freedom, but less of writing together.

I've put about equal thought into #1, and #2, which is to say, very little regarding the details of these individual plots.

What do you all think? Thanks for listening to my tirade, I hope I've interested some of you.

I'm interested. I would tend towards #3 in terms of character creation, and then have people find reasons to encounter one another. But any way you run with this, this looks cool and I'd be pleased to be in on it!

A -Punk genre? Airplanes? Piracy? Political intrigue and war? AND maybe magic? I can't help that all it needs is the kitchen sink.

Color me interested. Of your options, #2 really catches my eye, but in general it sounds like you have a neat little world you're developing here, so I'm up for any storyline that lets us play around in it.

I think option #2 can be tweaked a bit. I'm thinking of focusing on one, centralized location, such as a city-state or something, that within resides political intrigue and violence and stuff. Not sure about the magic, still deciding.

It's not completely steampunk. I lied. I apologize. Here's the description of technology in this world from the last RP (SUBJECT TO CHANGES)

Hey all, quick update:

I'm about 1/3 of the way done. I'm worldbuilding like crazy (for good or bad) and revising the stuff I had last year.

The RP will be called, Children of the Sky. It will be a dieselpunk RP (without the diesel, read below). So far, I have not narrowed down a storyline, though it will involve a magi-terrorist who wants to overthrow a government, and our characters will be directly or indirectly a part of that. That's all I will say for now, I'm still trying to iron out the world, then decide which part of the world I want to set the RP in. Essentially, all I ask is that you stay in the city centralized for this RP. That's it.

Here's a brief description of what I aim to do with this RP, thematically:

This is a Dieselpunk fantasy RP set in an alternate world where airplanes, zeppelins, and gunships fight wars, and magic exists but at a very reduced faction. Essentially, this is inspired by World War I and II, with all the goodies you would expect from such a time. Smugglers, pirates, political intrigue, massive aerial battles, and a dallop of the supernatural create this world.

Being a dieselpunk RP, there isn’t much diesel actually being used. The aesthetics of the dieselpunk genre interests me, that is, the timeline and the thematic elements present in this genre take center stage. Almost everything is powered by wind turbines and the recent advent of The Arcane Conductor, which converts turns turbines via solar energy (solar panels! Yay!) This planet is separated into multiple fragments or continents that float in the sky, so actual use of diesel doesn’t make sense (no ground to drill). Water is collected by clouds and reservoirs still remaining on these continents. Yay! This is a perfect world, right?

Nope. In all actuality, the most valuable asset for these countries is food. There is limited resources and space for food. People are starving across the world of Adam, everywhere you look. Too many people for the food output. In order to get land, you need military strength. In order to get military strength, you need resources such as metal. The world is short on both food and resources for war. Therefore, they wage war, both politically and physically.

Magic in this world is heavily reduced. People with magic affinity hail from a tiny continent obliterated by war. Over generations, this affinity dwindles, and their power diminishes. Only those who have inbreeded for generations keep their magical affinity in tact, but that comes with a price.

I hope some of you are still interested.

You have my interest. I'm not sure if you've decided on the plot line yet, but if I had to rank them, I'd go with 1-3-2.

Voting for the RP--although I've already made up my mind ;)

Flagg: #3
Derren Krenshaw: #2
Bunnita: #1, #3
TheEvanCat: #1
Gravity Flux: #2
IInflex: #1
Everblight: #1

#1: 4
#2: 2
#3: 2

So there it is folks! However, those who wanted something else please do not fret. What I want to do is see how this first RP goes, and then build other RPs from there. I want to do the political intrigue RP next, but I feel that this is the best starting point. Another interest topic with ALL the relevant details will be making its way onto the General and Advanced interest boards, within the next week or two.

I present to you.... the first RP adventure in the world of Adam.

CHILDREN OF THE SKY: CARRION

The Carrion Fleet is near its end.

The Carrion Fleet was created nearly two hundred years ago, out of a necessity for the protection and cultivation of smugglers and goods from one area to the other. Seven merchant and mercenary companies abandoned their namesake to join The Carrion Fleet. However, soon they began to prey on their own customers, and became the very thing that they had once sworn to destroy.

The individual companies that made up The Carrion Fleet all took the monikers of birds -- Vanguards of the Zephyr took the signet of an eagle, and were arguably the best group of pilots around; The Maidens were an all-female group that excelled in smuggling of people, and theirs was the harpy; The Dead Hunt was a group of plunderers, their signet the vulture.

However, seventy years after the war that nearly consumed the world in fire, The Carrion Fleet, believed to be too large and powerful in the new world order, was targeted and nearly destroyed by force and political intimidation.

Only one company remains. The Night Stalkers, or The Owls (their mascot is an owl), is a company infamous for their use of rare, expensive and outdated petrol to run their planes, instead of the more cost-efficient Arcane Capacitor. The benefit? They can pilot at night. They have now taken up the roles of the other companies, and have become masters of their craft.

Now the world is on the brink of another war. The very nations that sought to destroy The Carrion Fleet are now turning to their help, as there are no limitations to the scope and abilities of The Night Stalkers.
