Hello, everyone!

I'm looking for a few people, perhaps around five or six, who would be interested in participating in a Harvest Moon role-play. For those of you who don't know, Harvest Moon is a video game series developed by Natsume in which players simulate the experience of a farm life. However, "farm life" is the least of what takes place during these games, and the least of what happens in these role plays. While farming can be an important feature of the game, the series gains its popularity due to a variety of other features, such as getting married, participating in festivals, exploring your location (which tends to have a mountain, a beach, various caves, the main village, a mansion, at least one farm, and even some islands) and sometimes participating in specific story lines that tend to be dabbled in magic. Looking at the settings and story lines from previous Harvest Moon games, one can see that there is a lot to work with in terms of an RP.

The best candidate for this role play would be someone who has played at least one of the video games before. There is a certain atmosphere these games produce, and without having played one for yourself, you might be missing out on some of the magic. Also, the setting and characters might be unfamiliar to you if you do not already have knowledge of the game and have navigated the villages and valleys for yourself. However, if you are very interested, I'm sure we can work it out and you can learn the characters and locations fairly easily. I will include all of that information in the OP of the thread, as well as links to previous Harvest Moon RP's I have participated in to give you a feel of what they're like.

Now, Harvest Moon may not sound like the manliest type of RP to play, but really, the limits are endless. You basically have a setting, a bunch of characters, and a clean slate. You can choose where to find a job, who to marry, who to befriend, and have loads of adventures. Though I probably won't allow magical playable characters in this RP (there may be exceptions - let me know), there will be a touch of magic in the RP, just as there tends to be in the Harvest Moon games. You can certainly expect to see the Harvest Goddess in this RP, as well as likely appearances from a very popular mermaid and a slumbering princess. I intend to have the role play set in Forget-Me-Not-Valley and Mineral town, giving players an option to reside in either town and freely pass between the two. The world will be a bit more expansive, having a bit more "world" between the two towns so that players may use their creativity and fill in the blanks with some more adventures. Between the two towns will be a mountain and a forest, and I'm considering adding characters or towns from the DS games as well. First, I just want to see where everyone's interests lie for this RP, and then we can sketch out some final details.

So who thinks they'll be interested?! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Can't wait to start role playing with you! :)

Well you already know that I'm interested. However my curiosity is are we going to have npcs? or maybe we can have it be the future or past of the areas? Generally the npc's are rather awkward in forget-me-not-valley. I never really liked any of them but Nina and her husband. I suppose I didn't mind the Cilia, and Daryl was a bit halarious... but there npcs were just wierd compared to most HM games.

I'm thinking of being a male who wants to open or work in a Cafe. kinda like carl in HM MM but more original character. but this all depends. I would like to think he lives in forget me not valley, but work in Mineral town (God I want to own that game! then again I want to own ALL the HM games...)

Definitely, all the NPC will be in the RP. And really? I feel like the NPC's in Forget-Me-Not-Valley are the most realistic and believable NPCs of all. But of course, since both Forget-Me-Not-Valley and Mineral Town will both be available (and possibly more), you will also have more NPC's available to you for more interesting gameplay. These characters seemed the most normal to me, however, and the characters in other Harvest Moon games always struck me as more weird, haha.

I'm also considering having the option to travel by boat to the Sunshine Islands a possibility, but it depends on whether or not people have played the DS games and are interested in having that feature in the RP. It could end up getting way too messy.

And your idea sounds good to me! Would your café be a part of Doug's Inn, or do you think we'd have a separate building in one of the empty lots?

I'll post that map in the RP as well, and update it as we have more players and more buildings added.

Well maybe his cafe can start in the inn, but move on to one of the empty lots later on as he gains money. My opinion is that adding sunshine island might be too much, but it would be good if their is tons of people in the rp. as we will need more land. I've never owned the game, mostly cause the ds has always given me a hard time, so I wouldn't know how it would affect the rp.

I'm only looking for about 5-6 people to join the RP, so having tons of people won't be an issue (especially since you're the only one who's expressed any interest so far, haha). I was a little worried about land at first, but there is plenty of vacant space in both Mineral Town and Forget-Me-Not-Valley, so I think we'll be fine. Not to mention that both towns have Inns, so there will be plenty of room for people. Plus we can be creative. ;)

Starting at the Inn and expanding to your own place sounds like it could be a good idea. I'm interested to see how you play it out. :)

Awesome, thanks for the help. :) I put it in my signature on this site as well as another site (where most of my old RP friends used to post, until the website died :/ ). Hopefully some attention will be drawn here. :)

I'm still debating on how I will build my character. Part of me wants to create a moody loner type of character based on someone I created for an old Harvest Moon RP, and another part of me wants to make a brand new, more mature character with entirely different traits. I suppose it will depend on the sorts of characters everyone else decides to create. I'll have to see what will be best-suited.

I love Harvest Moon.... but can never bring myself to complete one entirely. After I get enough money and do most of the events I get a little bored T_T. But an rp sounds nice.

Ah I'm very interested!

Although I've only played Ds, Ds cute, the island ones too!
And all the Wii Versions.
I'm not overly familiar with Mineral Town though...

I kinda envision a caring, yet cold character because of a troubled past.
Or a really peppy person who's oblivious to feelings...

Nonetheless. Interested.

Awesome! That would make exactly six people, which I think would be a perfect amount for this role play. It sounds like a majority of you have either played in Mineral Town or Forget-Me-Not-Valley before, so the areas won't be too unfamiliar to you. I'll also post maps of each town, along with descriptions of each location, and a description of all the characters that live in each town, so even if you are a bit unfamiliar with one of the towns, you'll be able to catch on very easily.

I'll start gathering information and maybe even post the RP tonight. :) Do you guys have any ideas for your characters yet, or where you might want them to work/live?

I think both of those could play out very well! I'm interested to see which you choose.

I'm deciding between playing a doctor, or a miner. Of course, if the important jobs are all taken by NPC's, I'll go with miner, since as far as I remember in Back to Nature, the Player Character does the farming and mining. I'm sure I'll be living in mineral Town since I know all the NPC's there really well.

I think we would be allowed to take NPC positions since it's a town. not like 8 ranchers.
Meaning if a guy was a scientist Daryl would be removed.... though I love Daryl.

Nope, none of the NPC's will be removed. However, that doesn't mean you can't have the same position as a NPC. For example, if you wanted to be a scientist, you could study with Daryl as his assistant or something, or even start your own small business. Of course, you wouldn't come to the town and already have a whole business started. You would have to start from the bottom and work your way up, which could lead to a whole bunch of adventures and stories to play around with.

Nice, have you considered a love interest yet? If you decide to go with playing a miner, maybe Keira (the princess that lives on the 255th floor of the Forget-Me-Not Valley's mine) would be a good choice for you. As for being a doctor, do you think you'd study with Dr. Hardy or Dr. Trent? We could even have the Doctor's Office where Dr. Trent works (in Mineral Town) expand a bit so multiple doctors and nurses can work there. So many options, haha.

Also, I just wanna throw out to anyone, if there is a bachelor/bachelorette that you're really interested in pursuing and they're not from Mineral Town or Forget-me-not Valley, let me know! I can possibly work them into the RP. I'm considering having "visitors" who come to the towns and stay in the Inns.

I'm working on typing all of the info right now. :) There's a lot of details, so it might take a little while.

Whelp I plan on making a female. Probably a rancher (cause fluffy animals), general store worker/owner/heir, or smith.
General store = bubbly
Rancher= Calm, Quiet, Philosophical
Smith= Assertive, Strong

Yup, we do. I've been working on pulling all the info together so I can make the thread. I'm putting a list of all of the NPCs (with images and descriptions for each one) plus a map of both towns and descriptions of each location, so it's taking a little while. I just want to make sure that information is available for everyone in case someone doesn't remember something from one of the games. :)

Also, dndragons, which town do you think you'd like your character to live in? You can probably have a whole farm, especially if you want the Mineral Town one, haha.
