Okay, so I think I got this. Fairy tale story would be (in brief): The curse of the beast actually get's transferred to her instead of her breaking the curse because her and the beast weren't actually "true lovers." The only way to actually break the curse is for her to find her true love. Anytime she smells/sees/comes into contact with a rose she enters some sort of feral, beast mode. Modern day Belle would be (in brief): A woman who loves to read and seeks out knowledge with an allergy to roses and very low self esteem. Afraid to be around others, scared that they might judge her just based on what she looks like.
