However, Clarisse brings this up to eleven both literally (sometimes, because there would be usually even more) and figuratively, and makes more twists to that. In one example a bullet has been shown to split into more, weaker bullets, another shows a single wave of projectiles bouncing off walls like crazy in the corridors. Others finish in magical explosions, and then there are those that leave a trail that deals as much damage as the bullet itself or less. Although the bullets are not much of a damage dealer with only a simple burn left behind, the high concentration of bullets even in just one wave of an attack often results in injury needing a good deal of infirmary treatment or even a day in the hospital for unprotected people, thus making either agility or durability a necessity when it comes to beating Clarisse as a foe. The duration of a Danmaku bullet is about ten seconds, and has varying speeds with the maximum of Usain Bolt's. This ability also ends up with the battlefield being a prominent artistic display of colors and patterns. Laser Dance - Two books, preferably historical documents or Bibles are thrown in the air, floating at Clarisse's desired height and, with a delay of two seconds, fires bright energy beams that can be controlled by Clarisse. The lasers are strong enough to light a building on fire or penetrate through concrete with a moment of focus, and making the books be close enough leaves a trail of napalm fire along the beam's path. Because of the possible collateral damage brought on by this that might affect the whole place and possibly herself, she does not use this frequently. The duration of this spell is based on either the number of the pages of the book or when she stops it by will, for the former case one page would equal one millisecond. This means that a usual average-sized Bible takes two minutes to finish, and once the duration ends the book's pages will disappear, leaving only a leather cover. The lasers can move as fast as she wants, but the damage is based on how much the beam is focused on a target; if the laser keeps moving around quickly to try and chase a quick person only little damage is dealt, but if the laser moves more slowly and more focused on a slow or stationary target then its job would be done in moments. This is mostly not the case with the rarely-used napalm-beam. Magical Items Pearl Cherry - A very rare, red-colored pearl with golden little dots on it, Clarisse saw big magical potential in it when she found this little gem under the wooden floors of her old home, and indeed it had. This spherical gem, worn as a necklace, has a magic capacity of one-tenth of Clarisse's, and acts as an amplifier for her attacks. If this is equipped, a selected one-tenth (if the Pearl Cherry is desired to be entirely used up) of her Danmaku Raze! bullets will penetrate through walls that are at least one decimeter wide, making people hiding under cover behind walls that are within that range still unsafe, and in addition actually gives a fire effect on flammable materials like fabrics, wood, and even human flesh. Once depleted, it takes two days to fully recharge. Sacred Blossom - A hibiscus flower sculpture crafted from gold with a ruby tip on its stigma extension. Energy flowing from Clarisse's hand flows in to the Sacred Blossom, gathering through the red gem before releasing a large homing red orb of light that moves quickly towards the desired target. It avoids any object it encounters except the foe itself, and will not stop chasing until it has done its job, an object suddenly appears along its way and gives it no time to dodge, or the Sacred Blossom is forcefully removed from Clarisse's hand, in which the orb simply vanishes. If it hits, damage that equals to losing a solid chunk of your body is likely done. The item takes three hours to recharge before it can be used again. Abilities Magic Resistance - Clarisse's affinity for arcane magics also makes her have some resistance to it to a degree of 30%. While her bullets deal simple burns to unprotected people, if ever a projectile with similar damage to that hits her she only receives a tiny patch of sunburn to her skin. Blink - Teleport to a target point up to ten meters away. If damage is taken, ability cannot be used for four seconds. After the blink, any other abilities will be disabled for at least one second, giving the target a small window of opportunity to close in before Clarisse continues to unleash her storm of magical projectiles. Has a cooldown time of 15 seconds. Telekinetic Levitation - With her mind she can move her body up in the air and fly, up to a height of eight meters. She can only do this to herself, meaning she cannot move other objects and any people but just Clarisse herself. Weaknesses No Spell Fatigue - While initially seen as a strength rather than an actual weakness, it is in fact a huge problem for Clarisse. Although her magical energy reserves are vast, it is not infinite, and there would be no warning signs that she'll be running out of energy from her usually excessive use of spells. Only then until too late when she all suddenly can't whip out more will she realize she's been running low. Poor Aim - The fact that her attacks basically lack any need to aim except the Laser Dance makes her a terrible shooter, she could even miss a practice target repeatedly in a shooting gallery. Aside from that, it also makes her too overconfident that repeatedly whipping out bullets in the face of a quick and smart enemy can finish her job, only to be defeated by that foe. Melee - Clarisse has a heavy preference of ranged combat, and is simply bad at using melee weapons and becomes too distracted to do anything except to use her blink ability. This makes her especially vulnerable during the cooldown of that ability. --- "Now look and listen. Back when i was young, my mother told my smoker uncle that if he wanted to see his niece graduate, then he'll have to stop his habit. Now this guy-- he was the second kindest guy next to my dad, and he was sending gifts to me every occasion-- even his birthday. He cried for me, then quit. All of this was useless, two years later he died from lung cancer. Since then, i've never even touched a single cigarette in order to not be like him, the man who let his loved ones go through sadness by killing himself with the habit of lighting up a stick in his mouth. I regret letting his death affect me however, and i should've inherited his addictive habit, because what you just goddamn said still gave me cancer anyways." --- Personality Outward, she's the egoistical type of teacher who'll go along well with other students. Every now and then she'll invent long, retorting remarks or weird and sometimes outright offending insults, and enjoys both light and dark humor often. While often acting informally just like most students do, she does dish out a bit of discipline on her pupils concerning schoolwork and just like other teachers, grave misbehavior that results in the endangerment of the life of other Athalians. She is lazy at times, but she does accept her students' requests to be taught seeing it as her purpose in the Academy. From past the undefinable lights-out in Athalia Academy comes then her hardworking, intelligent yet mad-scientist-like side. She stays up all night in some days, sleeping in the noon when she gets the chance and possibly explaining her occasional laziness. The reason for this is simple: she's been up researching all about a way to make a drug that she believes would revolutionize and change humanity, a drug able to bring magic to powerless normal humans. Although it might not seem apparent while the students are still awake, Clarisse has an obsession with that subject to such extent that she is even willing to do immoral actions for it, whether it be murder or kidnapping someone. While that could be possible, so far it's still not a possible scenario... yet. Background Clarisse Burgundy was born in October 21, 1988 on the Louisianan city of Baton-Rouge, of which long ago was one of the French colonies around the 16th century. Her parents were Victoria Scarlet-Burgundy III, a high school librarian, and Alain Burgundy, a physician. While their names say otherwise, the family isn't much of your typical, boring old rich family with strict standards. They work like a normal family, and they play like one. Not to mention, while their house is big enough to consider them in the upper class, its design isn't really that fancy; just like a normal suburban home, but at least two times larger. In the course of her life, Clarisse saw a great interest in science. She looked up on the important figures of scientific history, then figured that despite with all of the advanced inventions today, there could still be a new thing to be introduced to the world. Mass-production hovercars? Feasible and effective cure for cancer? Sentient robots? How about magic then? It was in the age of nine that she discovered something very, very unusual with her: after suddenly going astray in her school playground and being suddenly dragged by a strange man to a rusty van, a potential "pleasure-predator" of which her parents have told about her. As she struggled to get away, right before being thrown in the van she all suddenly found herself back in the playground again. She stood there, still wondering how come that happened, when the predator came to chase her again. Just as she moved her hand towards him trying to defend herself out of blind bravado, there came a display of colors, striking the wicked man down unconscious. As she came to realize this power she had, her science-oriented brain turned to this particular matter, trying to explain how come she was able to do that. It didn't really matter, though, after she had learned to do it by will alone in her age of twelve (although it was still less powerful back then, no lasers yet.). There were plans she made that she will eventually find something else for that type of energy she possessed. And by sixteen, she knew what she was going for: to create something to spread this certain gift bestowed upon her. Even though at times she though that might be impossible, she remembered that science will always find a way. With her luggage containing her documents hidden just under the pile of clothes and other necessities, Clarisse set on to her teaching job in Athalia two years before the course of the current school year after finally graduating. Seeing how she got accepted quite quick in a very picky school, she immediately knew what the place was for... Classes Well.... you know.
