It was starting to get late into the evening on a Friday night, Kari was walking along the street with Alexa, talking happily. The air was crisp and a soft breeze blew gently through the trees, with very few clouds in the sky, revealing the dim stars and the new moon and aside from the soft chirping of crickets there was little noise. They had been out later than intended, but she didn’t feel overly worried. They both went to school and lived in a safe neighbourhood; there were shadier spots in the city to be. Needless to say, the girl was excited for the weekend.

Kari sighed as they reached the street corner that marked the place where they must part to go home, she up a flight of stairs and through an alley, and Alexa across the road and down a few blocks. “I guess I’ll see you on the weekend sometime?” She asked hopefully, smiling slightly. She took a few steps, watching Alexa walk onto the road. Around the corner she could see a car driving erratically down the street. A sleek, black, sporty looking car that came screeching around the corner, heading straight for Alexa. It was as if everything slowed down, things began playing in slow motion as Kari reached out. “Alexa look out!”

The air night suddenly became cold and still, all noise seemed to disappear, the car seemed to slow to an unearthly stop, no noise, the lights seemed to dim and then street lights began to flicker. Suddenly the stillness of the night erupted into forceful wind, crashing around the pair violently, tearing at clothes. The trees on the street side shook fiercely and suddenly a branch came loose, falling onto the power lines. Instant darkness of lost power was followed by a few sparks from the severed cable before it came to rest of the other side of the street.

A soft light began emitting from beneath Alexa’s clothes, near her chest. The light grew brighter and brighter, to the point where there was nothing else to see, it began floating, all on its own and released a powerful pulse of energy which sent Kair and Alexa sprawling to the ground and the car sent flying backwards through the air, flipping in the air and landing upside-down a few metres away.

A few seconds later the wind died, returning to the strangely still and now very quiet night. With the light of the crystal extinguished after the blast and the power out on the street it was dark once more, the stars and new moon doing very little to provide light to see by. After a few seconds of silence more light entered the world, beside her a soft glowing surrounded an unearthly figure, whom seemed to be floating in mid air.

The figure was human in shape, but very slender, their body a bizarre white-ish blue, their hair seeming to defy gravity along with the rest of their body as it curled up over their head. The figure seemed tense for a moment, their eyes, one golden, one white, locked onto where the vehicle lie. The figure didn’t turn to the girl next to him, but eventually did speak. “Rise.” He said, for the voice confirmed that it was a male. After a few seconds, he spoke again. “Rise up. You are safe now.”

“Alexa! Are you okay?!” Kari shouted worriedly from her place on the ground.

~Three months earlier~
The sun cut through the trees, shining on a young woman's face as she wiped the sweat from her brow. It was another average summer day and, contrary to her normal behaviors, Alexa had chosen to go outside and garden. There wasn't much to do, as her mother always made sure to have the most exotic plants in her garden, but if she pulled enough weeds it would go towards her allowance.

She stood up, grasping firmly the stalk of a rather large weed and pulling with all her might. "Come on baby, mommy needs a new sketchbook," she grunted before without warning the roots gave way, the girl tumbling backwards with a thud.

"Ow," she whimpered, slowly sitting up as she rubbed her behind. "This is sooo not worth what she's going to pay me..." Opening one of her empty black eyes, Alexa noticed something as it caught the light of the sun underneath some shrubbery. "Hello," she said in a rather musical tone, "what have we here?" Pawing through the dirt she found a rather unusual crystal. "Where on earth did you come from?" she asked, sitting back on her ankles and blowing off some of the dirt.

Slipping her find into a back pocket, Alexandria cleaned up what was left of the weeds and headed inside to clean the dirt off them both. "I don't know what you were doing in the garden, must have broken off a wind chime or somethin'," she laughed. A grey cat weaved between her legs as the teen made her way up the wooden stairs to her room. Pushing open the door Alexa entered her own world, a world of paint and paper; a place where she could think clearly.

"I know I have wire in here somewhere," she rummaged through a drawer and pulled out a silver spool. After wrapping it around the crystal in a manner she found aesthetically pleasing before stringing it on a black string and dangling it above her cat. "See how gorgeous you are? Look at me, talking to a rock." The cat meowed in response as she walked over to her bed and fell into it, holding her prize up to the light. "If only I could be so confident around people as I am with cats and crystals."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~Present time~
Alexa nodded as her only friend parted ways with her. Honestly the girl didn't feel that she was such a good friend in return, hardly contributing to conversations and never really starting conversation in general but... Kari seemed like she needed someone to listen to her, so perhaps the teens presence wasn't all wasted. Suddenly a loud screech flooded her ears and Alexa stood frozen as a car swerved closer.
Eyes wide, her life played itself out, and with a sudden flash of light she fell to her knees. Am I dead, she wondered, looking up to see a glowing figure floating above her...
She turned to see her friend not far off, getting up carefully. "K-Kari?" she stuttered, stepping away from the astral being. What was going on?
Finally seeming satisfied that the car presented no threat of getting back up Astral relaxed slightly, his form becoming less ridged as he looked towards Alexa out of the corner of his eyes curiously, not saying anything.
Kari quickly rose to her feet and ran over to her friend and placed her hands on her shoulders, seemingly ignorant of the being beside them. “Holy shit! Are you okay?! That car just came out of nowhere-” She trailed off and looked towards the wrecked car before them, sitting on its roof and she slowly approached it, kneeling down as she got close and looking inside, immediately wishing she hadn't.
“I… I don’t think that guy’s alive…” She said softly as she stood up, looking to the other girl. What should they do? If they called the cops how do they explain this? But if that guy is still alive she couldn’t leave him there to die. He could easily be unconscious. She didn’t know. Finally she called and walked back towards Alexa. “We should call an ambulance…” She said slowly as she drew out her phone, looking at it a little blankly. “But… I… I don’t think we should be around when they show up…”
The girl was shaking visibly, which was stupid because she hadn't been anywhere near the danger. Alexa was just starring off into the distance. “Come on,” she said softly, taking the other girl’s arm. “We’re close to your house, I’ll walk you there. Once we’re there I’ll call the ambulance. Okay? Alexa? Are you… alright…” She trailed off and looked over to where the girl was staring but didn’t see anything. “What are you looking at?” She asked as she began leading Alexa away.
Astral looked over properly this time, turning his head and tilting it slightly. The other girl seemed unable to see him, which was a curious development. However the one he had saved didn’t seem to be reacting too much to his presence. Maybe she couldn’t see him either. However at the declaration that they were leaving he made a decision to follow them, his body floating effortlessly above the ground.
Alexa gulped, making nervous eye contact with the figure above her as she was lead away. "You mean, you don't see..." Alexa closed her eyes tightly and shook her head. I must be hallucinating, she thought, that's common for people who have suffered trauma right? I think this qualifies as a traumatic experience... maybe it will just go away.
However, he didn't go away, in fact the male followed them back to her house. Alexa didn't say anything, her eyes either clamped shut or staring off into space. Could I be hallucinating the light he's giving off as well? Does Kari not see the shadows being given off, or maybe I'm the only one paying attention. Once they were all in her room the girl flipped the switch, finding that the light he gave off was enough to make her friends face and few objects in the darkness visible. "Kari? Tell the truth and I'm not fooling around. Can you see anything, any light source at all or is it just dark?" The moon was covered by the clouds. "Answer my question Kari, this is important."
A clawing could be heard at the door, and Alexa knew it was Tommy. He would be able to tell her if this was real. Hurriedly she flipped the switch, her cat hopping up on her bed and looking over at the corner where Astral was floating. I'm not crazy, he can see him... The cat soon approached the male fearlessly, sitting on his rear legs and pawing at his feet in curiosity...much in the way that he had when she dangled the rock she found in the garden over him.
"The rock," she exclaimed, pulling it out of her shirt and holding it up to compare it to astral. "It's the rock!"
Kari must have really thought Alexa had lost it now.
Kari was about to respond when her friend began asking her a strange question, but Alexa cut herself off so she figured whatever she thought she saw was simply a figment of her imagination. As they made their way home, Alexa kept looking around and she wondered if her friend was scared that another car would almost hit her. They made it to her home shortly, and Kari was rushed to Alexa’s room. She looked at her friend curiously as Alexa turned off the light, not that there was much to see, it was totally dark for her.
“Lex… are you alright?” She asked softly, sounding a little unsure, but did as she was asked and answered the question, however strange it was. “I um… there’s no light Alexa… you turned it off…” She looked at the other girl, seemingly a little afraid. She heard a scratching at the door and jumped slightly, trying to calm herself from her start. Alexa was freaking her out, and she was acting so strange. Maybe the girl was still just shaken up from her experience, it must have been traumatic. Suddenly Alexa left her and ran over to the door, turning on the light and letting the cat in.
“Are you okay? You’re acting strange.” Kari said softly, sounding nervous. She watched the cat as it walked up onto the bed and began staring off at a corner, which was empty to her. It then walked over towards where it was looking and began pawing at the air. Maybe he’d seen a bug or something. Suddenly Alexa cried out and Kari flinched slightly. “What must be the rock? Alexa! You’re not making any sense!”
Astral looked to the little creature as it walked over him and tried to touch him. He moved out of the way just enough to stay out of its reach, looking at it curiously, and then to Alexa as she said something about a rock. He tilted his head slightly, looking at it closely, his gaze on the gem intense.
Alexa noticed Astral looking at her pendant and pulled it away, hiding it in her hands and glaring at him. He was real alright, but she would deal with him later. Stuffing the crystal back into her shirt, Alexandria turned to face Kari, who was clearly distraught. I might be going mad, but i certainly don't need her calling the hospital on me...
"This pendant, it's a.... good luck rock, that's why i didn't get hit by the car." Her voice was nervous and unsure, but in no way as frazzled as it had been moments earlier. "I'm sorry, I think I might just be seeing things, that entire experience was too much for me to handle. I'm fine, I just need a good nights sleep is all." Alexa quietly sat on the bed and patted the spot next to her, Tommy hopping up and pressing his head up into her hand. Outside their window the sounds of an ambulance could be heard, and they could see clearly the body being removed from the scene. "Looks like that's a problem we won't need to worry about," she said under her breath, "A neighbor must have seen and reported it."
"Thank you for bringing me home," Alexa looked up after a good ten minutes of silence. "I think i need some time to myself though... would you like me to walk you home or..."
Kari looked at her friend uncertainly as she tried to tell her she was fine. Seeing things didn't sound fine to her. But she figured it was nothing to worry about until tomorrow. Alexa must just be shaken up by the experience. She's not physically hurt, so there was no need to go jumping the gun. She looked out the window as the ambulances raced past, the lights casting colourful shadows up onto the walls and ceiling as they passed and she nodded slightly at the other girl's statement. When she was told Alexa wanted some time to herself the girl looked uncertain and shook her head slightly.
"I wouldn't feel right leaving you alone for the night..." She trailed off, also not wanting to disrespect her friend's wishes. "But if you really want me to go... just promise you'll call me if anything happens, and tomorrow when you get up if you could just call... or text if you don't want to call to let me know how your doing?" She smiled slightly as she moved over to the door. "We'll catch up when you're feeling better." She informed her, giving her a soft smile as she opened the door. "Feel better." She encouraged as she closed the door behind her and let herself out the front door, locking it behind her.
Once the other girl had left Astral turned his gaze away from where she had been and looked back to Alexa. His gaze was curious, possibly slightly confused as he looked at her, like he wasn't sure what came next or what to expect from her. He hadn't like the scowl she had given him, and he was not overly sure what he had done to earn it. Everything was very confusing for him right now and he floated down until he was level with the bed, his legs crossed and his arms folded over his chest as he looked down slightly; deep in thought.
"Yes, Of course," she replied quietly watching her friend leave before redirecting her gaze to the being in her room. The teen gulped a few times, just watching him for a while as she held her cat tightly. What am I supposed to do? she wondered, Alexa wasn't good when it came to talking to other people... was he a person?? She had heard him speak. Once Astral appeared calm she decided it was time to talk, though for life of her she didn't know what to say.
"Um," she began stuttering, "I...I don't think we were properly, i mean... who are you? What are you?" Alexa hoped he didn't lash out, that this was a creature of peace. He had saved her right? Alexa scooted back uneasily. So many questions were flying through her head, but she knew how it felt to be bombarded with words and so she held her tongue, hoping he would be nice about it.
Maybe he was just as scared as she was...
Astral’s eyes shot up at her as she spoke, breaking the silence of the room. His strange eyes locked with her and he sat there silently for a long time, as if he were evaluating something in his mind. Eventually he took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, before speaking again after his long bout of silence. “Astral.” He said softly, like last time it was a soft, soothing voice and it was hard to tell exactly what emotion was behind it. It was one of those voices that just installed calm in those who heard it and it showed he clearly didn’t think himself a threat to her.
“My name is Astral… if I recall.” His face became slightly troubled at this statement and he cast his eyes downward again in thought. In all honesty he wasn’t sure. “But I am afraid that is all I can tell you. For not only do I not recall who I am, but I do not recall much of anything, before meeting you that is.” His eyes looked back up to sharply, focusing on the girl as if he were trying to figure her out. Why was he here? Why could he not remember? Why her? She seemed just as confused as he was, and he could sense she was still hesitant around him, scared. However he was not sure what to say to calm this fear.
The human gulped, nodding calmly. "My name is Alexandria...." she managed to say, "um, so I don't supposed you remember how you got here." The girl thought about it for a moment. "Um... before you showed up and stopped that car, my rock" she pulled it out again, "it was kinda glowing the way you do. You wouldn't happen to know why would you?" She bit her lower lip and held the crystal out to him.
Tommy hopped out of the girls lap and walked back over to Astral. If he isn't afraid of this guy then i probably don't need to be. I mean, animals know best out of everyone right? She waited patiently for his response, biting her lower lip.
Astral looked at her curiously but simply shook his head. "I am afraid not. All I remember was darkness, and then this strange feeling like I needed to be somewhere, the next thing I knew there were lights rushing towards me and I stopped them." As she pulled out the crystal he looked at it curiously and moved closer, hovering over the bed, Astral reached out towards the stone and watched as it began glowing slightly the closer his hand got. However he did not touch it and pulled away, the crystal dimming back to normal at the absence of his presence.
"It certainly seems connected to me somehow." He acknowledged, looking down at the cat as it moved towards him. The being reached out and gently placed a hand on the cat's head, as he had seen Alexa do and watched as it rubbed against him. It was soft, and warm and a small flicker of a smile appeared on Astral's face at the contact. "I doubt I could say much more than that for now. However I do have a theory that this all may be connected to you somehow as well. I believe it was your peril that called me to this world from wherever I was before. Though for what purpose I could not say."
This day was becoming curiouser and curiouser; her stones behavior was somewhat worriesome.... why her?
She watched as Tommy purred and pressed his head up into Astrals hand. However after all of that "peril" she couldn't help but find herself exhausted... but would he be in the room while she slept? "Um, Astral, how long are you going to be here for? Do you come and go at will?" would he be there when she went to the bathroom, ate, flirted? Oh like she flirted in general. I wonder if he can pass through walls...
His eyes once again drifted to her and he shrugged his shoulders slightly. “I see no way to return to where I came from, so for now I could not say when I would leave. I am unsure of many things, and am unable to answer any of your questions any better than you would. For now, the connection I feel with that gem and you makes me think I will be staying close. I do not know if it is even possible for me to wander very far from you.” He shrugged again as he rolled over so he was lying on his back in the air.. “Maybe my memories will return in time. I do not know. For now, I am simply doing what feels right. With no past experiences to draw on, it is the only thing I can do.” His turned his head and his eyes looked back to her slowly, curious. “Do you wish for me to leave?”
She gulped, not wanting to push what seemed to be a very lost soul away. "No, it's just... I don't know. I mean I've never talked to guy this long before, let alone had one in my room... I don't know. If you have no where to go I suppose it's not the worse thing that could ever happen. I guess all I can ask is that you at least look away when I get changed or... stay outside the bathroom and stuff." It might take her a while to fall asleep but in a way she felt like she needed to be this person for him,
"I've been lost before, and I know how it is to forget something important to you... I hope for your sake that what you've forgotten is worth remembering, and that it comes to you in time."
Astral nodded slightly at the request, thinking if he was imposing his presence upon her he could at least do this. “I will do my best to respect your privacy.” He acknowledged as he looked around. “I do not need to stay in the room if it would make you more comfortable.” He offered, seeing as how, so far he hasn’t felt tired, and he wondered if he had the same needs that she did. Or maybe they would come in time too. He wasn’t entirely sure how this all worked, human needs. Looking over to the door he found himself wondering along the same likes as Alexa, could he interact with things of this world? Moving over to the door he placed a hand on it, feeling this strange sense of relief as he felt the solid metal beneath his palm and it turned in response to his touch.
She closed her eyes and nodded sleepily in response, soon falling into a deep sleep. In her dreams there was a closed door, but no matter how fast she ran she couldn't reach it. For whatever the reason, Alexa had the urge to open it,,, like there was something in that room but she couldn't remember what it was. However, much like all the nights previous she fell just short of the door before falling out of her bed and awakening with a sigh. "I really need to get a railing for this thing."
It was then that it crossed the girls mind that she might not be alone. "Astral?" She whispered, looking around the room. She rubbed her head and pulled out her phone, sending a text to Kari. {I'm fine, just woke up.}
A few seconds after his name was called the being seemed to materialise out of thin air in a wave of glittering particles, his arms crossed over his chest and his body relaxed. “You called?” He asked, looking down at her curiously. It was strange, now that he thought about it. He had been outside, sitting on the roof, and then he had heard her calling his name in his mind, rather than out loud. From there it had been easy enough. He had spent the night exploring his new environment and powers. So far he had figured out how to move things without touching them, and teleport himself.
He was still unsure of so many things, but had stayed mostly out of Alexa’s room because he didn’t want to intrude on her privacy. His eyes looked over to Tommy as the cat sleepily woke and sauntered over to him and rubbed against his leg before pawing at his foot. His eyes cast down t the cat and he smiled again. “Was there something you needed?” Astral then asked, turning his attention back to Alexa.
She almost fell out of her bed when he just appeared out of no where. "I...I was just curious if you were...real. Hey, I guess I didn't dream I was almost hit by a car last night..." Alexa was clearly made nervous by his presence and would be for probably the next few days at least. "Nothing, I need nothing, I'm sorry for... summoning you? How did you do that?"
She wished she could just go invisible, even though her cat would still be able to see her. Cat's were so much nicer than people anyways. "Any luck remembering stuff last night Astral?" She asked, poking through her dresser for clothes. She figured on getting everything together and than getting dressed really fast afterwards.
