^Striders while spaceworthy will need to hold onto stuff.
^^Hoppers will need thrown as they move around by "hopping". Unless they go onto the hull and then jump out they basically become simple projectiles and aren't very explosive.

I think your main issue will be transforming it into a ship. I mean you will need to devote an entire section of the end into an engine. You'll need some entirely new engineering sections, maneuvering thrusters and then some form of weapons. Then I'd say comes FTL.

Though, I'm pretty sure you are capable of producing air so if you really want you can go really basic and open airlocks and use them to give you slight nudges if you want to get down onto the planet (Though if you do that coming back up is going to be a problem). To be fair I think more people will initially be willing to help you simply due to the fact you're a building and not a ship. They'll think something extremely wrong has happened. 

Not that you are extra-dimensional invaders. (Heh, the Kiith copied you and chose the Tower to take over other worlds).
