Post-Slam 17 months later Etna National Park Inbound towards the Castello Cartel Hideout 05.03. 9:55PM With all the distraction out of the way Kainé could finally focus on his real job. His assignment was simple, he needed to crack down on Castello's ass! The mafioso's empire grew fast and threatened to further mess up the balance of power. And that was just the top of the iceberg. The main source of Castello's success was a sorts of mysterious technology. It was nearly certain that he was assisted by a bigger, more ominous power. That's the sole reason Kainé took up this job. He had a bad feeling. Originally he planned to sneak into the hideout so they could evade the bulk of the guards, save the captives and catch the enemy by surprise. But thanks to Kaine's recklessness and a certain hostage situation they had to ditch that plan completely. Following that their only chance was to run straight towards Castello and assault the base upfront. "..." "You'r strangely silent now. I ruined the whole plan and all. Your usual self would be tearing on me relentlessly by now. What's up, Ignis?" Inquired Kaiée with half worry. "It's... Nothing. While your methods were unrefined I can't say I disagree with your actions. Saving the boy was the right thing... I guess.." Ignis stated a bit reluctantly. "Heh, that sounds awfully human of you. Sure you're just an AI?" said Kainé a bit jokingly. But Ignis of course took this seriously. "I-I... don't know. Not with my damaged data-frame." Was the intelligence behind his magic instruments suddenly at loss of words? That was certainly rare. "So the answer lies within our lost memories again, huh? Don't worry, I'm sure to get everything back!" Kainé made such declaration on the spot. "... Tell this when you actually made some progress!" Ignis retorted cynically. "Dang! Point taken!" "Man, it's sure quiet here, don't you think?" They advanced several kilometers within enemy territory yet no one had tried to intercept them. They had a bad premonition. "It must be a trap. Look out, Kainé!" "Yeah, I think the same." He agreed. Yet the mecha didn't slow down at all. Nox's sensor systems are unusable so Ignis compensates with a set of spells using the reactor's output. It’s detection power is great but the method has rather limited range. General search could be performed up to 2 km but a hi-detail scan was only 200 meters. Meaning their worst threat was an enemy striking from afar. They had to be on the move otherwise they might get sniped before they realize it. Suddenly Nox changed its posture and ducked down. Kainé heard a hissing noise soon thereafter. "Damn, Jackpot." Kainé wasn't too happy to be in the right. "Transmetalite reaction detected. Possibility of Omega-Lambda variant is 91.7%!" Ignis reported. "It's Them! Without a doubt!" Kaine's voice was filled with anger. He's an easygoing man and hardly the type to hold grudges. Yet his thoughts were gradually getting filtered with rage. "IGNIS!" Kainé nearly howled. "I'm trying but the enemy is located too far. Based on trajectory it's located at 10'." Ignis reported at once. "..." "I need to track 2...no, 3 or 4 more shots for a more accurate result." She said a bit hesitantly. “No time for that! We keep moving!” Kainé said and the mecha continued its run. “But…” In that moment Nox dodged the second shot. The enemy was good but it lost the element of surprise. “They are the same guys we fought the last time. Both of us know what they can do and there’s no time! Just concentrate on your own thing and I do mine. “ Kainé sternly ordered while already trying to think of a potential way to fight back. “Understood” Ignis noted and focused on determining the enemy's location. Then Nox avoided the third bullet in a row. "Target is North-West, at the mountain's edge." Ignis reported. She needed at least two more shots to pinpoint the enemy's location. "How are the Magnums? Are they fully calibrated yet?" Kainé asked out of the blue. "Velocitas Magnum Dextrum is fully calibrated. Velocitas Magnum Sinistrum is next..." Ignis stated. "Perfect!" Kainé exclaimed as he called up the magic pistol to his left. "Hey, I said that gun isn't calibrate-" Ignis wanted to protest but Kainé interrupted her. "That's exactly why!" Kainé shouted while loading up a major spell. North-west, 10 o'clock, at the mountain's edge. He didn't need anything else. [[ORBIS INFERNALIS MAXIMUM!!!]] Thunderous noise as a blast of a gigantic fireball flew out of the barrel at high speeds, reaching the distant target in less than a second. On impact the fireball exploded covering up a sizable portion of the mountain in a sphere of incinerating destruction. Meanwhile the recoil of the shot sent Nox to the ground. "Hahaha! Take, that!" "IDIOT! Why did you do this?" "Well, I wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible. I just did." "And you nearly ripped off Nox's arms! I told you, its strength is only fraction of normal. It cannot possibly handle the full output of Velocitas Magnum!" Ignis continued to reprimand him while Nox was standing up. "Oops!" But Kainé didn't really care. It worked out just fine and that was all which mattered. "Besides, who knows how many people been caught in the blast? That region is supposedly unpopulated but still..." Tourists, hikers or anyone else could've been there. The blast covered everything in a kilometer radius and vaporized a large chunk off the mountain. "Well, sucks for them. The nice guy play is over. We're dealing with that crazy group from last week. Who knows what they're plotting this time!?" Kainé said kicked the machine's gears to high drive. Nox continued its relentless sprint towards the Castello Hideout.
