"Well, if it's only slight then I'll accept the tradeoff," she replied, purposely ignoring the sarcastic underexaggeration in his comment. "After all, this dress doesn't even go over my knees. What's the problem?" she continued, still purposefully flying in the face of normal beach wear doctrine. "You must understand. I can't risk looking [i]unfashionable[/i] just for a game of volleyball, no matter how many guys would want to see it," she said, elbowing him back, poking fun at his earlier comment. Just then the megaphone lady announced that she'd be announcing the first event shortly, right as Carmen (and Ara, as he was walking with her) reached her. Carmen turned to Ara and shrugged, indicating that even this close she still had no idea who the lady was, though she had been at the bar earlier.
