Raphael continued to watch the gathering group, but his attention shifted when he felt another presence in the forest. At first he could sense a beast, large and powerful, but then it paused and the sounds of heavy breathing and footfalls became light and more human like. His eyes shot towards the place where he could feel the presence, focused on the treeline a couple hundred yards away from him. What emerged was not at all what he'd expected. She appeared to be a normal woman, tall and dark haired with a rather athletic form and an exotic appearance. He could not place her kind, as he was unfamiliar with the scent, but it was some form of canine, of that he was sure. Normally, his kind distrusted and disliked beings with a canine nature, but Raphael had not been raised normally, and so had grown to think of canines as his brethren, along with all other predatory beasts. This woman had obviously mastered the transformation that eluded him, and that knowledge caused a war of emotions within him. On the one hand, he felt bitterly jealous and was inclined to dislike her, but his more rational mind told him that there was no fault to be assigned to her for being able to do what he had failed in himself. Besides, he also felt a certain admiration to her. She was what he aspired to be, a true hunter in the guise of mortals. The others could wait. For now, he felt he must focus his attention on that girl. She was the only one with whom he felt any real kinship, and he felt a strong desire to find out what sort of person she was. For now, his eyes followed her keenly, missing nothing, though he dared not venture forth from the camouflage of the forest quite yet.
