Alphakoka. I have a note for you. Raelis didn't [I]just[/I] spring into the air. He used his wings to propel himself up AND backwards quite quickly. The post even states that he is out of range and his incline into the air would be less drastic. It's more horizontal than it is vertical, that is for sure. AFter that he flies higher into the air and then above Snarnorgul, making it exceedingly difficult for him to hit with the acid cone.

Then there is the heat on his armor, which was acting as a secondary defense.

It's rather unlikely that the cone would do much just because Snarnorgul altered his aim slightly. Mostly because of the distance between them.
