Important Members
Appearance: Name: Mors Martell, Prince of Dorne Age: 37 Personality: Mors Martell is a typical Dornishman: proud, charismatic and headstrong. He is named after the Lord of Sunspear who married the Warrior-Queen Nymeria: a fitting name, many say, because of his strong personality and sense of ambition. He believes in his people, and has been a fair and just ruler throughout his years on the throne. He has encouraged the frequent raiding of the Dornish Marches over the last ten years: and in his efforts to create a united, stronger Dorne, has even managed to pacify the Yronwoods long enough to negotiate a peace amongst the Noble Houses of the Red Mountains, who have always been known for their pointless bickering and feuding. An intelligent man and an excellent politician as well as a military tactician, Mors is a proud ruler: and not one who will easily submit to foreign authority. Biography: Mors grew up in Sunspear, under the stern but loving hand of his father, Prince Quentyn Martell. Mors was the first and only child of Quentyn and his wife: although they tried, they were not able to have anymore children together - the fault of which lay with Quentyn, although no one would admit it. As a result of this, Mors was cherished during the early years of his life, and given everything he could possibly wish for - along with a strong education, in things both martial and academic, the latter of which his mother insisted upon. He had grown into a charismatic, well-learned and capable young man by his sixteenth nameday, who was popular at court and whose skill with a spear and bow on horseback had spread throughout Dorne. His father had been old when he had sired him, and he died two years later: leaving Mors to inherit the throne, barely a man of eighteen years. The Prince was surrounded by flocks of advisors from the day of his coronation, but quickly whittled these down to a much smaller number: recognising those who truly wanted to help him, and those who wished to control him. Mors had always considered the Dornish people to be superior to those who dwelled in the more fertile lands above them: as a result of this, he spent the first few years of his reign negotiating a long-lasting peace between the Northern Houses, who were constantly shedding as much of each other’s blood as they were of those from The Reach and The Stormlands. Once the peace had been established, the Northern Houses adopted a much more aggressive stance towards those who inhabited the Dornish Marches: harassing and raiding them much more often than they had been for as long as anyone alive could remember. The Prince has not yet married, but has sired a number of bastards with various different women. He is a well-liked and respected ruler, and most certainly a proud one: although he knows nothing of the coming invasion of the Targaryens, he will not bend the knee lightly. He does, however, have a slightly darker skin tone than some of the House’s members - a result of the Martell blood that also flows through his veins. Name: Ser Cerrick Martell, heir to Sunspear Age: 47 Personality: Cerrick is surprisingly stern and serious for a Dornishman - and distinctly lacking in any of their stereotypical sexual licticiousness. He takes his knightly vows seriously, and does his utmost to serve his leigelord: Prince Mors Martell. Controlled by a strong sense of duty which he picked up during his days at Castle Yronwood, Cerrick is a stern man who believes his calling is on the battlefield - not in the comfortable, lavish chambers of a politician. Biography: Cerrick was the firstborn child of Arthur Dayne and Ellaria Martell, third son of the Lord of House Dayne and second-born child of Oberyn Martell respectively. He spent his childhood at Starfall, and was sent to foster at Castle Yronwood in his ninth year. It was during his time with the Yronwoods that Cerrick developed his strict sense of moral duty, and honed his martial skills to the legendary standard which he is known throughout Dorne for. Unlike most Dornish warriors, he was trained how to fight like a traditional Knight of the Seven - with sword, shield and lance: and spent only a small amount of time learning distinctly Dornish skills like knifethrowing and archery. Cerrick was knighted when he was seventeen, and spent the next few years of his life leading raiding parties against the inhabitants of the Dornish Marches, before he was called to Sunspear by his uncle - Prince Quentyn Martell. He was twenty when he arrived at the seat of the Martells, the only conventional ‘city’ that Dorne possessed. He was informed that he was to become one of the members of the young Mors Martell’s personal guard, and would help with his military training. During his years at Sunspear - as Mors grew up and Prince Quentyn’s health gradually faltered in his old age - Cerrick developed a strong sense of affection towards young Mors, and it was this sense of affection that led him to swear his sword - and life - to his cousin whenever he was coronated, eight years after his arrival at Sunspear. Cerrick and Mors’ close bond, along with his martial skill, allowed the man of both Dayne and Martell blood to rise in the ranks to become the Master-at-Arms of Sunspear by the time he was thirty-five. He has been an envoy between the Martells, House Yronwood and the other Northern Houses many times, and currently resides at Sunspear.
