No amount of shitty ending is going to lessen the impact of curing the genophage (MORDIN WHYYYY) or that heart pounding excitement of when the fleets arrive at Earth.
*Obvious spoilers ahead* By far one of the most memorable moments for me was on Rannoch. I played a neutral Shepard who was a bit of an ass. It turns out it's best to stick to either Renegade or Paragon. I hadn't had any problems until then though (except in Zaeed's loyalty mission, where I didn't have enough of either karma to convince him to get over Vito. But even then it didn't matter much 'cause he ended up surviving the Suicide Mission anyway, regardless of loyalty). It wasn't until I got to Rannoch that it really hit me hard when I didn't have enough of either karma to convince the Quarians and the Geth to form an alliance. I had to choose between them and that was truly a heart-wrenching decision. I ended up choosing to side with the Quarians after I convinced myself that the Quarians, being organics with a long history of evolution and whatnot, deserved to live on more than the Geth. I still felt like crap though, since the Geth weren't just mindless robots; they had developed and were about to become truly sentient before I cut their existence short. Gunning Legion down was the worst thing I did, probably. And we're talking about a Renegade-leaning Shepard here, who had done plenty of bad things. But nothing compared to gunning Legion down. I shot him more than once too, for whatever reason, which only made me feel worse. "Creator.. does this unit have a soul?"
