You should also take a look at Philip K Dick, he wrote the Original Blade Runner, Minority Report, Total Recall and of course lesser known works. 
Greg Bear, he makes me think of a Heinlein and Pratchett crossover. Worth a look.
If your into Historical Fiction then take a look at John Williams, he wrote the famous historical novels I, Claudius and also Augustus. He has of course wrote others but they are the only ones i have read.
