There's a saying. If you fall in a dream and don't wake up before hitting the ground, you die in real life. But...what happens when you fall...and you fall and fall and fall...and you never hit. You spiral out of control, you spin and topple, screaming and screaming. And what if you fall for so long...that all you want is to hit the bottom. And die. And end it. And never wake up. What happens when you fall in a Nightmare, but the Nightmare refuses to let you die? [b]Premise[/b] You are a High School student who, night after night, find themselves stuck within the Nightmares, an alternate world filled with traps, deadly apparitions, and insane lost souls. Imprisoned within a twisted game by a being calling itself Ixxus, you must work together with your fellow prisoners to escape and free yourselves from this never ending nightmare before you die or go insane. The RP will be split into two alternative segments: The Nightmares, and The Waking When in the Nightmare world, you will be facing horrors and life threatening situations. I tend to run my RPs as "If you do something stupid, you'll probably die" to prevent anyone from just going gung-ho all the time. Don't worry, I will give PLENTY of warning if you're actions would even potentially result in something fatal, I won't just kill you off without reason or without your consent. But stupidity will result in punishment *example: Running into a hopeless situation to try and fight your way out when it's very clear you need to be running, I will take a limb at best, but you'll be given the chance to redact that action and try something else* You're weapons? Pacts made with desperate, dying spirits. In exchange for a precious sacrifice, you are given an ability to help even the playing field. Read the Pact section to find out more specifics. Out of the Nightmare world, you will be expected to carry on relationships *friendships and romances* and character development between players *these events should effect your character greatly, and other player's actions should as well* but more importantly you'll have to keep morale up not just for your own character, but others that will be forced into the situations with you. Keeping depression in your mind and not helping each other will result in consequences not only for you, but the rest of the group. Thus, it is important that you try and keep some things lighthearted, lest someone's mind snaps. Including yours. Your ultimate goal? Find and stop Ixxus and free yourself from this nightmarish curse. I will be filling out our ranks with a healthy portion of characters that will be controlled by me. These friends and loved ones will join us within the nightmare, but their motivations, goals, and personalities are their own and complex. You should consider them as multiple characters, not side characters. If they go insane, they may kill themselves in front of you or actively betray you. And I will make sure it is at a very inopportune time. However, I will hold off on making these characters until I see how many folks join, and so I don't inadvertently take an ability you may want. You are MORE than welcome to ask me to make a supporting character for you, or to use any of the characters I make, including my main, as friends or acquaintances to your own character. [hider=Pact]The Pact is the bargain you will strike in your first Nightmare, where your character gives something precious to gain a useful tool that helps even the playing field against the being who's doing this to you. You will meet your spirit early on in the RP. The weakened Spirits, in their desperation to avoid fading away forever, will feed off something precious that you give them, in exchange for the ability. The Pact is only in effect within the Nightmares, you cannot use your ability in the Waking World. By the same token, that which you gave up is not missing when in the Waking World. If you need any help coming up with a Pact, just PM me, I'll be glad to brainstorm with you. Simple rules to follow: - This is not a weapon, but rather a tool or ability that puts you above a regular human. Exceptional balance, heightened reflexes, the ability to conjure small flames or move small objects with your mind are examples. - Super powers, such as blinding speed, ultra strength, summoning a vortex of fire, or invisibility are not acceptable. These are weakened spirits feeding off whatever it is you gave them. You have to use brains, not brawns. - What you give them MUST be precious or significant, this must be a sacrifice. Is your character an artist? Take their eyesight or ability to see color. Or take an entire arm. Take their only vivid memory of a departed loved. Make what you lose significant. - The price you pay is only physically in effect in the Nightmares. If you offer your arm, you still have it in the Waking World, but it feels odd, hollow. Like it's no longer yours. While within the Nightmares, you lack the arm though. - This is an act of desperation, for both you and the spirit. You will make the pact in the first moments of the RP. The spirit needs you in order to survive, but it also knows you need it just as much. Note: Think more strategic, less combat. Super strength, super speed, and similar are out. This is a give and take with a weak spirit. They take something precious to give you a tool to work with in the Nightmares. Not a weapon. Be creative! Personality: Brief explanation of how your character acts around others. Don't get too deep, leave some mystery for you to reveal slowly and keep everyone wanting more. You'll notice there's a lack of a background chunk. I want you to explore and expand on this through your interactions, not via us reading it and immediately understanding your character. While within the Nightmares, his left eye is a gaping empty socket. He tries to keep it covered with a makeshift eye patch torn from his jacket. While incredibly thin, Jack is also unbelievably flexible, able to seemingly contort his body into any space and crevice, despite discomfort. Pact: Einz, a voracious, greedy spirit. While not actively evil, Einz is a glutton and a coward. He fears disappearing more than anything, and covets everything that others have. Jack has given him his left eye in exchange for the ability to mutate his hands into tough bony claws that can cling to and climb walls and ceilings. Personality: Jack is a sweet boy known around the school for being supportive of those around him. He's generally laid back and quiet, taking his time to say anything, if anything at all. [hider=Jenna Lemon] Name: Jenna Lemon Age: 15 Gender: Female Physical Description: Coarse brown hair at shoulder length, often tied back into a bun to keep it out of her face. Jenna's eyes seem almost too large for her face, and are a dull blue. Tanned skin and a toned body show her love of the outdoors and sports. Short, around 5' even, Jenna is often called "Lemon Tree" by her friends, due to her height. She often wears jersey's and comfortable, loose fitting clothing that allows a wide range of movement, alongside tennis shoes. Pact: Henth, a quiet spirit with a vicious sadistic streak. If it hadn't been near death, it would have loved to watch Jen break within the Nightmares. However, necessity dictated it help her live. In exchange for the memory of her deceased brother's face, Henth gave Jen a long tail that looks similar to a long, dangling spinal column. The tail allows her to maintain her balance easily in all settings, and she always lands on her feet. Her natural sports affinity has turned this into an impressive acrobatic gift while within the Nightmares. Personality: Jenna is stoic and driven, to the point where inactivity makes her restless, irritated, and antsy. She participates in almost every sport imaginable, and seems to be excellent at them all. However, she is stubborn and proud, refusing to back down when challenged, and believing that if she tries hard enough, she can overcome any hurdle, even the impossible or insane ones.[/hider] [hider=Terra Minsc] Name: Terra Minsc Age: 16 Gender: Female Physical Description: Terra has blonde, unbelievably curly hair that sticks out in all directions if she spends less than an hour taming it. She has a bit of a heavier build, and tries as best as she can to eat healthy. Still, she has a strong sweet tooth that gets the better of her. Freckles adorn her face and arms, and she stands at an average 5'7". Often wears dresses and fashionable outfits in striking colors. While she frequently wears contact lenses, she can sometimes be seen in a pair of rimless glasses. Pact: Halcyon, a friendly bubbly spirit that enjoys meeting new people. It seems to consider humans the equivalent of puppies. In return for Terra's sight, she gave her hearing so sharp she can use it to maneuver, similar to echolocation. Incredibly loud sounds however cause massive pain and disorientation. Personality: Shallow would be an improper description of Terra. Painfully aware of society would be accurate. She buys the best brands, spends countless amounts of money on designer clothing and knows how to best accent any feature of any individual. She is far from haughty, preferring simply to look her best at all times. She cares for her brother deeply, despite his antics, and wants the best for him in life.[/hider] [hider=Johnny Minsc] Name: Johnny Minsc Age: 16 Gender: Male Physical Description: Terra's twin, and all that it entails. The two could pass for each other except for one being a boy and the other being a girl. However, where Terra cares deeply about her appearance and tries to put her best foot forward, the best way to describe Johnny would be slacker hippie. Seen mostly in shorts, sandals, and baggy wrinkled t-shirts, Johnny doesn't even attempt to control his hair, which has become a large curly explosion that hangs down to about mid back level. He's incredibly proud of his beard, which he has spent the last year cultivating into what appears to be a patchy five o'clock shadow. He wears thick rimmed glasses as well. Pact: Nocturn, a silent, somber spirit who only talks if absolutely forced to. A defeatist attitude permeates all it's interactions. It gave Johnny the ability to shrink down to the size of a mouse for a short period of time *never exceeding ten minutes in length*. In return, it took Johnny's memory of his mother. While in the Nightmares, he has no recollection of what she looks or acts like. Personality: A goofy sensitive type, Johnny empathizes with others incredibly easily, to the point where the sorrow of others will effect him on a deep emotional level. However, he tries his absolute best to cheer others up, and he is one of the few people who could probably be accurately described as absolutely innocent in almost every regard.[/hider]
