I was thinking the same thing. =P I have a feeling the evil dudes might be interesting to roleplay later on, but Erik being evil would probably break my heart. His father is one of the most horribly evil and disgusting characters I use, and a lot of what happens to him is based around how he had similar demons but defied and overcame them to be a decent person. It would be like if Luke Skywalker took Darth Vader up on that offer to join the dark side.
