Monokuma turned to Maria, "Au contraire, Miss Flying Nun! But I do have to agree, we do need to establish some ground rules! So listen up, you bastards, 'cause I'm only gonna explain them once!" A monitor dropped down from the ceiling where the second Monokuma came from. The words, "Mission Statement" flashed on the screen colored in what seemed to be crude crayon. "I'm going to give you bastards a chance to escape," the bear began, "Besides, what's so fun about having a good murder mystery without a prize? And what better prize than freedom? None that I can think of anyway!" "A chance to escape?" Carlos inquired, "So we could just all find the exit and leave this very instant?" "Yeah, 'bout that, Upupupupu!" Monokuma chortled, "All the exits to this place are sealed up tight! You kids should be happy! Unity Academy wasn't really built for security so I went out of my little way to keep you brats nice and safe!" "Uh, th-thank you, sir?" Ryan wasn't sure if he should have been happy or upset by this news. "To escape, you'll have to graduate!" Monokuma continued, "But graduating isn't easy! You need to earn credits! Credits are earned by murdering one of your classmates! Of course, you'll have to prove you earned that kill by participating in what I like to call a class trial!" Carlos paled. This creature couldn't be serious. He really did expect them to kill each other for freedom? By then, he pondered, the authorities would surely find and rescue them. "The rest of you bastards will have it guess whodunnit!" Monokuma nodded, sagely, "If you do, the culprit will receive... Punishment and the rest of you will be safe to breathe another day! If you don't, the culprit will get off scot free and the rest of you will receive the punishment instead!" Monokuma pulled out a stack of pamphlets and laid them on the stage floor before pointng at the monitor, "O'course, we got rules here! Learn em, live em, love em! If you need a refresher, the rules are in these complimentary Unity Academy pamphlets! Got it?! Good! Set your gaze on the monitor and let the rules I've graciously given you douchebags burn into your brains!" Rule #1: The students will live inside the school walls. There is no time limit as to how long they can stay there. The only way to escape is by winning a School Trial. Rule #2: The time between 10pm and 7am is called “Night Time.” During the ‘night’, students must stay in the dorm area. Rule #3: All students should sleep in the designated rooms in the dormitory area. Students found willingly sleeping in other places will be punished. Rule #4: You may investigate the school however you want, as there are no special restrictions on your actions. Explore to your heart's content as long as the room isn't locked! Rule #5: Breaking the locks on any locked door will result in punishment! Rule #6: You cannot harm the school’s headmaster, Monokuma, nor can you destroy any of the surveillance cameras. Yes. I will be watching your every move, Upupupupu! Rule #7: A “culprit” who kills a fellow student will graduate, but only if they can convince the other students that they are not the culprit. If the culprit succeeds, the culprit can leave, however, as punishment, all the other students will be killed in the culprit’s place. If the culprit is proven guilty, however, the culprit will be rightfully executed. Rule #8: After three people or more discover a dead body, a “body discovery announcement” shall be made so everyone knows of the death. Rule #9: If after twenty-four hours and no one is killed, the students must attend a mandatory event in the auditorium where a special lesson will be taught on the subject of "Motives!" "More rules may be added by yours truly at anytime!" Monokuma spoke again, "For now, there ain't far you can check around this place. We got a cafeteria, a dormitory, some bathrooms, and a library to study the files of... Past students! So for now, please make yourself comfy! Sound good?"
