I'm creating Aether's "insanity" to be based upon the idealogy of how far the human body and mind can go to strive and cling on to life with each and every thread woven for them. He's absolutely insane -- but he's insane in the calmest manner. Even able to express his insanity, perhaps? Or perceive that his ways of thinking are not on the level that a living human could consider "normal".
