Hello my Darlings,
I have some updates for you to sink your teeth into! First, I’ve updated some paragraphs in the combat guidelines, here:
Fighting Enemies
When you battle enemies, you should avoid character actions that entail definite endings such as death, permanent disable, or exclusion from the encounter all together. Most of the enemies that you fight are not incompetent and at least half of them are nearly as strong as you are, perhaps even stronger. If you perform these definite actions anyway, the system will prevent the enemies from dying, unless they would have done so according to the rules!
When you attack an enemy you will always suffer its stagger damage, regardless. This can be roleplayed and considered as different things: it could be that your character was hit by the enemy, it could be the effort required from your character to strike the enemy, perhaps your character tripped and hurt his or her ankle while running towards the enemy, or something else. This supports that ‘stagger’ can be almost anything.
# You control the enemies that you fight, but you cannot attack another player with them.
# Enemies will keep attacking you unless it is explicitly provoked by another player.
# Enemies always prioritizes magic use against you, if they possess it.
Knock-Out
Just as your enemies, your character has a stagger meter as well. Your character cannot die without your consent. He or she will be knocked-out instead. When your character is knocked-out, you should roleplay him or her as severely injured and/or in a coma from which he or she can only be revived with a ‘Phoenix Down’ (item).
Limit Break
This is god-modding. When you use your limit break, you can instantly kill any number of non-boss enemies in a fight. You choose when and where you want to utilize your limit break, which means that you do not have to use it right away when your limit gauge has been filled!
Second, I’ve addressed a few issues with my private GM-notes that should make things clearer and easier for me. However, naturally, I cannot show them to you! Stagger calculations is one of them. These should now be more precise and diverse. You will notice that the stagger meters have increased in size across the board, for the next battle. This is an effect of my changes, so no worries!

The story, setting, and characters are all keeping me interested. I've had trouble with this in the past. ^^ I also like the amount of activity (good on you, Prisk, for keeping that a priority) despite the fact that I was a bit of an offender when it came to disappearing. Dislike...? Hrmmm... Kat needs a lover?

I like the feeling of the group being thrust into something they weren't expecting/probably weren't all the way prepared for. Them being flung into an all-out war with little to no back up and semi-vague orders/purpose is intriguing.

In the spirit of questions, there are some lists floating around of questions to ask about your character. Something like this. So far its been pretty helpful at fleshing out Kat in my mind. You're right about the drama part, but I feel like it could be subdued a bit and not be overwhelming. What kind of personality do you want your (Kat’s) dreamboat to have?
I’d volunteer if I wasn’t 70% sure I’d play him in some unappealing way (or out of character). And Chris Pratt deserves more than that. If you want to be absolutely sure that Kat and Chris Pratt have chemistry it may be best you play him yourself.

Prisk, how do the (enemy) tagging thing work? Can it be destroyed? Does it just shut off the moment the stagger meter is filled? Is the actual tag invisible or possibly microscopic? Cause I’d think an enemy would try to take it off or disable it if they knew they were tagged.
Also, is an enemy with a full stagger meter automatically dead or technically KO'd until the player/GM specifies otherwise?

The tagging is mostly a game-device to allow our characters to know vital information about enemies. It's also a homage to abilities such as 'Scan' and 'Libra' in the Final Fantasy series. The tagger gun itself can be destroyed, but the tags themselves are pretty durable. The tags are visible, they would be the size of your typical two inch nail, however much thicker. The holographic 'tabs' that the tags display next to enemies shut down when the enemy is dead. For the sake of casual fun and the homage to Final Fantasy, the enemies won't attempt to rip the tags off—it's just a simple solution for me to logically allow you to know stuff about enemies.
An enemy with a full stagger meter is either already defeated or ready to be defeated. It all depends on whether you acknowledge it or not. When and if I've crossed an enemy stagger out, anyone can finish him off. If nobody does, that enemy was already killed by whoever attacked him last. In any odd case, it's a god-modding opportunity.

I know I've been kinda ghost-y lately. I'll be available tomorrow until 4:30 though for any collabs or anything, and I will catch up and do a battle post. ^_^ May the bitches be with you!
I have to tell you, Prisk, I think enforcing one OOC post a day is tough. People forget. But I appreciate the intent.
My next IC post is coming sometime this week. I don't know when. After that, unfortunately, my next post will not be for another week or so as I'll be on the road.
Now, to questions:
What do you like/dislike the most about the roleplay so far?
Likes: What I like most is the stability - everyone is posting, the plot is moving at a very reasonable clip. You've done a great job of making sure things keep happening, but don't rush us. I love your system for flashbacks, different timelines, etc. It's one I wish I had thought of last time I GMed. The setting is generally very good, and combat (though less freeform than I personally prefer) seems well-thought-out without limiting creativity. The quality of posts is really high, from everyone - I don't feel like anybody is not carrying their weight story-wise. Overall, everything feels well-constructed, well-balanced and fair.
Dislikes: First, let me say that none of what I'm about to list is dealbreakingly bad - or I wouldn't be around ;). A lot of this is GM's prerogative and I respect that, but you asked, so I shall answer.
Certain elements of the setting still feel very unrealistic for me. For example:
Having to walk because a supposedly elite, well-funded Academy has no cars for its supposedly elite soldiers.
The lack of justification behind the choice of Olivia as commander (I mention this mostly for historical purposes; I think that given how well it's been addressed IC now, it shouldn't be changed.)
The weird sort-of deification of Samuel without a lot of explanation of why (I've tried not to play Emily this way, in particular, because it just doesn't fit her character to be fawning over someone who died years ago).
A certain lack of military discipline (we've talked about saluting and stuff, and I know that WARG is different from other groups, but these guys are military officers. Again, this may not need to be changed at this point). I know that I've been assuming our characters are trained operators in a combat environment - they know what they're doing, they know their maneuvers, etc. I'd like to see more tactical planning and thinking in combat, on the part of our characters and our enemies.
The lack of guns and other kinds of modern weaponry in a society that has electricity, cell phones, cars, etc. This last one is the biggest one for me - it just doesn't make sense that you wouldn't at least get your most advanced elite ops team a pistol or two, even if guns and ammo are in short supply. It's not impossible to buy that other weapons would be more useful/easier to acquire, but you really just can't underestimate the usefulness of a firearm. I think it would be worth our while to invest in some better explanation/development of why guns are restricted in this setting - or, alternately, make them available, but ineffective against many enemies to discourage their use.

What do you like/dislike the most about the roleplay so far?
hmm....almost everything actually. But what I like most is how willing our beloved GM is to develop the RP's story. This could possibly be a long-running one from what I see, probably much longer than the RP I've joined in back at the old guild. I also like the strong individualistic presence of each characters. How unique they are in terms of personality as well as their strong impact towards the flow of the story.
As for dislikes....so far, there's nothing I can think of. Probably would be centered to myself and how I lack time on writing.

Well, I was thinking if an NPC could have some major involvement towards the story or if not, to the group. Maybe perhaps a certain NPC acquired spirits of his/her own? and haven't yet realized that they became guardians? I don't know.

Random Fact: The scarlet band she wears originally belonged to her eldest brother, who was an archer, he wore various bands of different red hues to keep his wrist from being damaged.

Thus far I haven't been disappointed with this, in which my past endeavors of joining groups wasn't entirely pleasant. This particular story has a lot firsts for me: being the first one I've joined in a four month hiatus, where I've done a collaborated post, playing a character likes Mags [some have been similar, but none so haunted and dark and didn't become a rampaging bitch because of it] and using the timelines and flashback methods and the combat system. The movement of the plot isn't rushed to where I'm falling behind, though I can't say this for others, but even with my ridiculous work load I'm able to pop up here and there and I'm able to post at a somewhat comfortable pace. I feel pleased and more bound to this story with having put a lot of graphic time into it, as I was extremely satisfied that everyone loved the banners so much. Music and visual elements for me are key, so the fact that we're heavy on those helps tremendously and somewhat motivates me to stick around. I have a terrible tendency to become detached or bored, but I don't see that happening here.
Now on dislikes, I have a few: my family is military, quite steeped into it, so those particular details for me are just eh, but they are necessary for the story; this is just a personal thing, easily dismissed. I also feel there is a lack of acknowledgement in character actions, especially with some that are so obvious and really only such acknowledgements seem to happen when people are collaborating, this does not pertain to everyone, but I feel as if some crucial details are glossed over or rather ignored. I suppose me being a heavily detailed writer and person, this may just be a personal peeve or preference. But then, I'm just easily annoyed. I wouldn't expect everyone to notice everything, or for characters as well, but I find myself somewhat confused when reading certain posts, like, oh well okay. . .
Now when I first started, I was drawn by the backdrop of Final Fantasy elements, but then was entirely put off with my writing style in which made me terribly insecure and nearly dropped the entire thing. I got comfortable with it and my method until a friend pointed out that changing it up wouldn't kill me - in the end, I'm glad I stayed.
Now on dislikes, I have a few: my family is military, quite steeped into it, so those particular details for me are just eh, but they are necessary for the story; this is just a personal thing, easily dismissed. I also feel there is a lack of acknowledgement in character actions, especially with some that are so obvious and really only such acknowledgements seem to happen when people are collaborating, this does not pertain to everyone, but I feel as if some crucial details are glossed over or rather ignored. I suppose me being a heavily detailed writer and person, this may just be a personal peeve or preference. But then, I'm just easily annoyed. I wouldn't expect everyone to notice everything, or for characters as well, but I find myself somewhat confused when reading certain posts, like, oh well okay. . .
Now when I first started, I was drawn by the backdrop of Final Fantasy elements, but then was entirely put off with my writing style in which made me terribly insecure and nearly dropped the entire thing. I got comfortable with it and my method until a friend pointed out that changing it up wouldn't kill me - in the end, I'm glad I stayed.
If you could change anything about the roleplay, what would it be?
I'm not certain I would change anything, everything is rather solid and concrete and I'm satisfied with it.
What do you think about the group or someone in particular?
I think everyone has a certain charm to themselves and their writing style, I feel like my work schedule keeps me from bonding entirely, but, it is what it is.
I have enjoyed collaborating and would like to point that JJ and Arch were wonderful to work with and I hope to work with everyone eventually.

Haha, I don't think our writing styles would, I would hope anyways, but I should be available this weekend for a chance to JP with you. Or whenever you're back from being on the road, I'm patient.

I really don't have one in mind. The only real requirement is that he and Kat hit it off haha. If you're up to it I could be as involved (or uninvolved) as you desire in your creation process. I'd obviously want you to enjoy playing the character. :)

@Everyone: Out of the world for a spell. Just finished wrapping a short film that required a few 18 hour days from me. I'll get myself back in sorts have start working on a post soon. Try not to kill all the mooks before I can eat one.

@Blackwell: You know making an important NPC, especially one that is important to one of the PC's is more or less narrative suicide, right? It virtually guarantees that the character will die in some terrible, if suitably dramatic fashion.

Likes: The player group is fun, active, and cooperative. Everyone seems to jive pretty well together and seem to be in agreement about serving the narrative, and the narrative Prisk seems to have simmering appears to be worth serving.
More than anything the fact that I am probably more enthusiastic about this rp than when it first started should say something to the staying power ya'll bring to the table.
Dislikes: Combat mechanics, no getting around that one. By the spirits themselves I hate combat mechanics in narrative RPs. That said, the system you've implemented in this one is considerably less odious than any others I have had the misfortune of being yoked with. But I am still not sold as to the utility of any such system.
I also have to voice my concurrence with Ex's little gripes as well, though as with he, none of them are deal breaking or even particularly troublesome for me.
