When it isnt related to Lazarus he only has a vague sense of the intentions but his (and i think im sort of still fleshing this out) subconcious takes notice of things in regards to him since he isnt doing this consciously (im sure there is a psyc paper to be written in there somewhere). So a demon going "Im gonna tear mary's head off" would come across to Lazarus as "I'm going to hurt someone" but a demon going "I'm going to tear Lazarus' Head off" would come across as "That demon is gonna try and kill me"
