Age: 20 Race: Human (Musician) Appearance: Samantha 1.75m. tall and weighs 55kg. She is incredibly lean and dresses appropriately – in clothes always ready for action, but always impressive enough to make heads turn. You’ll never see her in a skirt, however she can upgrade her looks when it comes to performing on the circus stage. Her hair is long and well-kept and has an undecided shade between deep-red and dark-brown. Her eyes are blue but there’s a restless spark in them that can never be hidden. However whoever meets them would find that gleam to be like staring at a blazing fire. An alluring, dangerous promise that she would either kiss them breathless or rip their heart out. Social Status: Hard to define. Due to her unpredictability she’s not the Academy’s most reliable student yet she’s a valuable choice for risky missions that others wouldn’t necessarily want to take on. The circus performers and musicians working with her have a similar attitude – they value her but know they can’t always depend on her. Relations: Sam has very few close friends but quite an impressive array of casual acquaintances. Among them are a variety of intriguing individuals from all kinds of social circles, mostly involved in risky or anti-social behavior (gliders, bungee-jumpers, kick-boxers, head-hunters to name a few). Her strongest relationships are with some of the students and teachers in the Academy; with her current band “The White Ravens” and with the “Midnight Circus” where she performs most nights. General Activity: Attends the Academy lectures and missions half the time, plays music and performs the other half. Abilities: Most of the skills Sam has concentrated on were in the musical and physical sphere. She has been playing music for as long as she can remember and has become very, very good at it. And she knows and prides herself in that. Her physical abilities, on the other hand, have been a mere by-product of her personality and are more often taken for granted than appreciated. As a result to her various physical activities she’s developed a sturdy and flexible frame; a fine-tuned set of muscle and agility and a very high stamina for a woman her size. Additionally, she’s good at parkour and can drive anything man has ever created, and has executed some pretty spectacular chases in her career as a protector of peace. When it comes to magic, Sam’s first contact with it was when she joined the academy and received her Instrument there. Since then, she’s focused largely on mastering its properties and abilities, and hasn’t expressed any interest in developing any magical abilities aside from that. Equipment: Aside from her instrument, Sam also carries a gun and a dagger. Her only armor is a pair of armored leather boots and an armored leather jacket. Enchanted boots: Infused with the essence of a demonic bird named Cartris they allow her to jump higher than an ordinary human and soften her fall as she lands. Its texture is smooth and transparent with an ever-shifting current of light, shadow and colour flowing beneath its surface. However, unlike a marble ball, Sameda actually bounces off most surfaces and is unbreakable. The sound it produces upon touch most often resembles various kinds of drum and more rarely – a piano. Fragment Abilities: Dissonance: Most often the music sounds like multiple tones or voices fighting for the same space and giving different orders or pleads. By playing a dissonant melody or song, Sam can influence the listeners’ emotions in a variety of unpleasant or harmful ways. Consonance: In contrast, a consonant melody can align all the voices and feelings held by the Sameda and make them sound like a single strong one. The result is a strong compulsion to do what is asked of the listener at the given moment. Consonance is harder to achieve and requires more concentration on Sam’s part, which is why she uses it more rarely than Dissonance. Resonance: By getting a feeling of her listeners’ emotions, Sam can then play a melody that resonates with them, thus enhancing them. Harmony: When Sam gets together with a group of other players, they can play a unique melody of a single target. By playing exactly what the listener longs to hear deep down inside, they can make him experience a sensation of bliss and harmony for as long as they play. The target then becomes absolutely tame and loses all ability to resist as time seems to have stopped for them. Dictate: A passive ability influencing everyone who hears Sameda’s melody or voice. Its effects depend on whether the beat chosen by Sam is fast- or slow-paced. The sound binds with the person’s heart-beat whose own rhythm is then distorted. The only way to counter that is to either stop the movement of Sameda or shut off one’s senses of hearing and feeling. Pierce: By decreasing Sameda’s flexibility and increasing its toughness the balls can be used as a round capable of crushing bone and piercing flesh. Shockwave: If Sam uses a string of her own essence to link herself to Sameda, then upon touch she can release a shockwave of essence directly onto whatever Sameda is aimed at. Fragment Personality: Sameda’s personality comes across as a crazy and loud gibberish. Because ofits inability to formulate complete emotions and speech it is considered broken or mad. While the sound could be managed and controlled to sound like music, the voice itself sounds broken and inhuman - more like dissonant than like consonant. [/hider] Personality: Sam is a hyperactive daredevil and a bit of a nutjob. Much like her Instrument, her own personality could easily be defined with the metaphor of a power-ball – she has the compulsion to always be on the go and would jump from one activity to the next all day long – from roller-skating to parkour, to playing music to racing with motor bikes. Her seems to always have so much energy that she finds it hard to sleep and would only do so once she’s completely burned herself out – to the point of being literally unable to stand on her feet. Due to that personality she finds it hard to form long-lasting and stable relationships with people who can’t keep up with her tempo. That’s not to say she doesn’t try. Sam is a positive person and gets along well with others. However, the Instrument’s influence didn’t spare her soul and gradually eroded her sense of morality and worse – her sense of fear. Thus she’s become a reckless soldier unafraid of the consequences for her, or others, for that matter, even when those consequences could be death. She explains that as a perfectly normal “circle of life” mentality and seems adamant on the idea that life is to be lived, no matter the risk. And while that mentality certainly makes some admire her, it also makes others resent her as reckless and irresponsible. Biography: Sam rarely concerns herself with her past and as a result very few of her current contacts know much about it. What they know is that she has been playing drums for as long as she can remember and used to play in the rock band “Mascara” for 3 years. Although at first the band struggled to gain international popularity, they later on became pretty famous – incidentally, after Sam left. She has an older brother that she doesn’t keep in touch with and no other known relatives. She has been a student and permanent resident of the Academy for a meager 2 years yet proved to be compatible with a particular fragment of the Essence that had driven many of its previous owners insane - Sameda. In Sam’s hands the flawed Instrument was turned into a formidable weapon at a cost Sam was more than ready to pay.
