My first roleplay ever was on a gaming forum that had its own section for Play-by-post, and I picked up some of those awful habits out of frustrated necessity. That had to be nearly eight years ago come this fall, maybe seven, and I'm ashamed of those times. Habits are hard broken, but to be honest, the RPs directly following it were the best influence I could have asked for and some of the nicest people. I was early teens, I think, if not preteens, and the GM of this thread (an Eragon-inspired one) was not a good one. I watched as people in the game began to flake off and outright leave in a rage. It wasn't until it was only the GM, one other person, and me that I saw the issue. This GM would outright meta-game and god forbade her character have any faults. It was infuriating by the end because I brought the problem to her, we dueled in character, and she did nothing but dodge dodge block auto-hit dodge hit kill >_> essentially, at least. Commas were left out because it was really no more than a flurry of "MY CHARACTER CANNOT BE BEATEN RAAA" from her. It was incredulous. Not a good way to start my RP'ing experience, I admit, but it's always wonderful to look back and see how far you've come. ^_^
