I started in tabletops. Dungeons and Dragons 3rd Edition with a few expansions. I honestly don't remember too much about it. We sat around a table, partook of our inspiration, and played. Vampire: The Masquerade and Savage Worlds (my favorite) followed. Been nearly a decade, and Savage Worlds was actually fairly recent so my opinion might be a bit biased.
That's a cool way to kick off roleplaying. I'm not well-versed in tabletop because almost all of my RP friends were online-only for a very long time and any time we tried to do something, it just kinda of died... Tragic, I suppose. I did one RP that was semi-tabletopy, but it was play-by-post with those tabletop elements throne in (you know, dice rolls and traits/feats and things like that). But a few friends and I are planning to get together for DnD 3.5 (I had a character drafted for 4 before that group kinda of dissipated /: ) so I'm pretty excited about that. On-topic: I hate when a roleplay literally just seems to vanish off the face of the Earth and all the players stop posting all at the same time. >_>
