1. I think the initial group would have been together for at least a week, but not long enough to be entirely comfortable with each other.
2. Given the relative inconvenience and shock factor of transforming, it's important to keep it low key. But, Avalon does not really restrict their movement as long as they do not cause scenes or be too conspicuous. 
3. We can definitely assume there was a big celebration in town if that's important to you!
