Hiiiiiiiii~~!!

K, so Bunnita here. Again^-^! So just a simple question to RpG this time:

Here at RpG!!! What is the best way to join an RP that is already like 800 IC posts into the RP?!!

Like k, I gets it, ask the GM and err'body there, read as much as possible (the whole thing preferably) but is there a better way to go about it? Like on another site I was on, we did summaries for noobles joining the RP, then custom fit their charrie with some give and take to slot them in! ;D Funs. Soooo... like just wanna' gets some opinions, tips and advice, k? Please dun be mean to me. Right. Oh! So yeah, mebbe... say... yeah, it's about, oh mebbe an Advanced Level RP with like 800 posts...?

Thanks ya!! ^^!

Bunnita~~<3!!!!!

Haha, whoa! You'd read all 800 pages? At that point, the GM certainly has an obligation to get you up to speed. If they, for whatever reason, tell you to just read it all, my advice would be to give them the finger and find another RP =)

In my RPs, I generally have people include a summary of their posts at the end of them, in case someone only has time to read through quickly, and have to go - they canr ead the full thing before posting.

In your case, probably best to ask for all pertinent happenings. Because reading 800 pages is out of the question. 20 posts per page, that's a lot of posts.

I would never, ever ask anyone to read that much. Especially since, that far into the RP, you really don't need to know the vast majority of it anyway. Depending on what exactly has gone on, you usually only need basic plot points - as well as a quick run-down as to how all the characters got to where they are now as of you joining.

If a GM is going to allow people to join once an RP has gotten that far, they should be able to provide a basic summary. Don't think anyone can join unless they actually read every tiny (or not so tiny) post? Then there's no point in keeping it open to new people.

I usually ask that people try to read the last 3 pages just to kind of get caught up to speed on current events and character and get a good grasp of where the story is sitting, but usually I try to get people up to speed the best I can with summaries and answering questions. It requires effort on both the GM and the new player's parts.

Yeah, asking the newcomer to read the past couple pages doesn't hurt. But the bulk of it? I'm fine with writing a summary.

A good GM who's looking for new players would be more then happy to provide a summary of past events as well as help new players with any questions they might have and helpfully working them into the IC. As others have mentioned, anyone who requires a player to read that much content beforehand is pretty sadistic. I mean, it might be nice and enjoyable for the player to do as they're going along and have joined, to see what's happened before and experience it on an entertainment level, but as something that's considered to be required reading, then generally no.

My rp has chapter summaries, a character wikia amongst more and I'm always happy to answer a player's questions. If an rp's open, fitting a new player in shouldn't really be too difficult.

If you're only concerned with joining the RP for what's happening right now, go ahead and ask for summary. Most players should be able to tell you what's going on. If you joined for the story, and it's 800 pages long? Well, I guess you can still just drop in from the current event, but with that much text I think that trying to figure out major events from the past would be good to know too. I can understand why you'd want to read all 800 though; sometimes players may have forgotten or never used a bit of information that you just know you can act on, you just need to figure out how or what happened to it between than and now. Maybe you don't want to just feel like that complete newb who i walking into the unknown; you want to feel like you actually have a reason, a place, to be there. A summary is good if you want to know what you missed. But if you really want to be more than just a tact on addition to this 800 page epic, don't be afraid to do a bit of digging and asking. See if you could be someone's lost sibling or their mysterious benefactor, if they have something like that.

Simply ask for the gm to briefly tell you all the important factors of the roleplay. If there's anything important to your character you should keep in mind what that event or events are that while making a character for said rp.

Wows. K, first off, I meant 800 posts not pages. Each time a bunny sneezes, another piece of their brain shoots out their nose :3 Sneezes. A lot. MEEE!! Urps. Sorry. And it's more like 500 posts... Bunnita just needed to sound all dramatic-like. xD But like still that is a lot to go through right?

But yays! Good advice, tips and suggestions, err'body ^^! Thanks ya!!!!

Hi, Rilla!!!!! ^-^! So for these summaries, are they hider'd at the bottome of the IC post? Oh! And yer sig gif gots me all pirate-like: GIVE MEH BOOTY!!!! ALLADAT BOOOOOTY!!! Nyarr!!!! xDDDD

Hi! Kaga!!! ^-^! EXTERMINAAATE! xDD K, so like yeah, that's how we used to do it on the other site I was on. But like not just the GM made a summary. Even the RPers in the RP had to write a bit of a summary for their charrie too. But I like Dervish's idea of reading the last 3 pages... hrmmms... and probs even like at least first 3 pages too?

Hi Dervish!!!! ^-^! You were nice to me before!!!! Yays!!! -hugs- K, so yeah, when we did accept a new RPer and their charrie, there was like a bit of give and take to fit them into the RP. GM had final say of course ;D

PACHAMAC!!!! Hi. ^-^! I just ate your sig... sooooooooooo yummy ;D But yeah, wows you sound like an urshums GM. And the Wiki idea is really good and helpful! The one I'd like to join has one too. Soooooooo... like is it difficult to set up a wiki? This bunny is kinda' tech-breaking-jinx prone :/

Hi Lucius Cypher! ^-^! Ooooohhh... you are a sneaky devil aren't you! I like the idea of looking for some kinda like leverage(is that what it's called?) against other RPers but naw, this bunny would be in it more for story than deviousness. I like to try to grasp most of what I'm getting muhself into, cuz not always the cleverist bunny out there, ya knows?! And I like to read other peeps posts too!^^

Hi vancexentan! ^-^! Yeah, that's what I intend to do. Cuz like I dun wanna go into the RP being like totes noobs, right?

Sooooo... like yeah, I was just curious to gets other opinions on the subject, cuz like even though its online... I feels... idk like... shy? Embarrassed? Cuz it's like yer hopping in on someone elses territory and disturbing their clubhouse. Like I know that if the sign says closed then yeah... it's CLOSED, dumb bunnies! But like the ones that dun say closed, mebbe, just mebbe they might be accepting? And like if they are accepting, I just wanna be prepped on how to do it like RpG does it when joining an already established, long-time-running RP. So yeah!

Thanks ya, err'body!!!! ^-^!!!

Don't be afraid of asking, Bunnita. :)

As far as wikis go, another of my players actually set one up. I'm pretty terrible with that kind of stuff too. XD But the good thing about wikias is they're easily fixable, so even if you end up doing something wrong (like I did multiple times), it can easily be edited back. They're a fun little character/information depository. :)
