Name: Emery Jones Codename: Nova Age: 18 Power: Gravity Manipulation. Emery has yet to reach her full potential; her abilities affect only herself and those within less than a two kilometer radius for now. First and foremost, Emery can shift the direction in which her personal gravity pulls. It allows her to walk on walls and ceilings, and essentially fly through air by strategically selecting her point of landing and tuning her falling speed accordingly. She can temporarily enter a state of zero-gravity, allowing her to float for an extended period of time, although movement would be nigh impossible at that state. Emery can also deploy a small gravitational stasis field around herself for defensive purposes. People or objects within the field are subjected to anti-gravity, and she would have some degree of control over them. Due to her aggressive tendencies, Emery prefers to use her abilities offensively, shifting gravitational forces to enhance her combat abilities. Appearance: Emery stands at 5'4 and weighs just a little over a hundred pounds (or two hundred if she feels like making herself heavy). She has three long scars along her back, and usually sports multiple bruises. Personality: If it weren't for the undeniable fact that she is indeed human, one could easily believe that Emery is a wild animal. She is purely instinctive, relying on intuitions and quick reflexes to get by. Her impulses drive her, and she spends little to no time thinking anything through. She believes that unnecessary pondering only hinders one's actions, and has thus subscribed to a 'do now, think later' sort of mindset. It doesn't matter if her actions yield consequences—she can always deal with it later—as long as she accomplishes what she sets out to do. She has experienced what happens when one hesitates, and she knows never to do so again. Emery is also very straightforward and blunt, unwittingly tactless in that her words hold no malice but are still otherwise hurtful. She sees no point in sugarcoating the truth or spreading white lies to spare feelings; as far as she's concerned, honesty is really the only way to avoid any complications. Among strangers, Emery is wary and constantly on guard, ready to attack at even the slightest provocation. She tends to be more hot-blooded toward those she's more unfamiliar with, and is wont to openly show when she dislikes someone. Among friends and allies, she is incredibly protective and affectionate. Once Emery considers someone a friend, her loyalty remains with them forever. She will do anything for them. Strengths and Weaknesses: Quick to act and even quicker to react, Emery feels most at home when she's flying around throwing kicks and punches. She has nothing in the way of tactics, and her preferred solution to everything is to beat things up until the problem's solved, but she follows orders surprisingly well when it comes from someone she respects. Left alone, however, Emery will most likely make a big uproar and leave a trail of destruction in her wake. Her single-mindedness is definitely a double-edged sword: she will carry out missions without fail, no matter the risks, but she can also get blinded by the mission to the point that it affects her judgment. Emery also doesn't have the best social skills. Subtlety is very much not her forte. History: Emery had parents once upon a time, but they weren't very good ones. Her mother was an alcoholic who took to physically lashing out at her when she was frustrated or hurt. She would leave her black and blue one night, then coo and coddle her the next, desperately whispering an apology over and over like a mantra as she showered her with forehead kisses and warm hugs. There would be so much remorse in her tear-stained face that Emery always ended up forgiving her. Besides, her mother was the lesser of two evils. Her father was the spawn of the devil, or so she liked to think. If he wasn't in his usual drunken stupor, then he would be high off whatever drugs he weaseled out of his friends that week. She had to actively stay out of his sight, because even one quick glimpse of her made his blood boil. He blamed his unwanted daughter, who at the time of her birth needed corrective surgery due to her congenital heart defect, for all his shortcomings. If it weren't for her, they wouldn't have lost all their savings. If it weren't for her, they wouldn't be living in a shoddy trailer, barely scraping by each day. If it weren't for her, he wouldn't be the loser he was now. Because he didn't like to look at his worthless daughter, he vented out all of his anger at his wife. Her desperate pleas were the only reason he even let her stay. She was nine when she first stood up for herself. After witnessing her father beat up her mother for the umpteenth time, Emery grabbed a knife from their makeshift kitchen and threatened to use it against him if he touched her again. Her threat fell on deaf ears; after all, what threat was a malnourished girl who weighed close to nothing? It only yielded three long scars that nearly spanned her entire back and black eye, but her first act of defiance awoke something in her. She started fighting back in the little ways she could. It never ended well for her, but it made her stronger, and slowly she learned to use her smaller and lighter frame to her advantage. A year later, her father would be sent to the hospital with multiple stab wounds. Emery acted under self-defense, jumping in to protect her mother from yet another beating, but her frightened mother refused to vouch for her and she was sent to juvie for assault. If she were being honest, juvie was more of a home than her real home ever was. She had regular meals, was able to attend school, and was basically given the proper attention she needed. Still, she had a tough time adjusting at first. It was difficult for her to quell the urge to defend herself against any threat, and her past experiences have only made her edgy. Emery would be involved in numerous brawls against children older and bigger and stronger than her, most of which she won by resourcefully making use of her lighter frame, as she learned to do against her father. Her sentence was initially only five years, but due to her numerous offenses, it eventually increased to ten. When she was released, Obsidian was waiting for her. Other: Emery tends to constantly stick by people she likes, trailing after them like a lost puppy. She has no sense of personal boundary and will more than likely encroach upon others'.
