Without really noticing exactly when it happened, to Dexter, all sound seemed to suddenly stop. Time itself seemed to halt, except, out of the corner of his eyes, in the shadows behind Nixon, he could swear... inside a fraction of a moment, there was a movement. Black, at the other edge of the building, a flap like a raven's wing... a shadow fell in slow motion as time stood still from among the other shadows where it should have been. It was like time had frozen, except for this thing that was breaking the laws of physics, like a piece of reality itself had fractured. Not being able to hear in the middle of these critical milliseconds made everything seem so unreal, like watching a movie. Yet, it all happened so fast. Within a single moment, Dexter recognized the creature that was now running in slow motion from behind Nixon. It had the flaming eyes, of Mithias. Sound suddenly exploded as time lurched forward to meet with reality. Two blades cut the air with a scream as Mithias crashed into Nixon. Fangs bared, his white skin radiant in the artificial electric lights, the oldblood-sired vampire slashed across Nixon's neck with his left blade and simultaneously impaled him with his right. Mithias looked huge, like an animal, a violent warrior completely hellbent on lethality. Although Nixon was old enough and fast enough to turn around, he couldn't stop this malevolent assassination. The first slash cut deep into the arm he had tried to block with and the second shut down his heart, by going through it. As if death couldn't take Nixon fast enough, which it couldn't, Mithias reversed the first blade and drove it into Nixon's side, making a cross out of the damned vampire's insides. Cold, lethal, brutal, Mithias sneered and glared, growling into Nixon's eyes as he held his dying corpse. He didn't care who Nixon was, or had been, or would have been. Mithias only wanted blood and vengeance. In that moment, he was the embodiment of hatred and war. Not paying any attention to Dexter, Mithias sank his fangs into Nixon's neck to drain all that was left of him.
