I am so down for joining this. [s]Do you want me to make a character sheet here, or wait til the actual thread opens up?[/s] I'm gonna put my CS here, but since I was last to sign up, I'll understand if I missed the deadline. Also, Dark Make sounds like one of the coolest magics out there. Name: Cooper Sylas Age: 22 Gender: Male Magic/s: Illusion Magic Illusion Magic is the ability to seize and control in some way the five senses of another being. Although all five senses can be controlled, some are more difficult than others: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch, in order from easiest to hardest. While someone with a creative mind can make incredible use of this magic, it does have several drawbacks: - Machines are not affected by it. This includes cameras and special equipment that might filter outside stimuli (mechanical masks, headphones, etc.), so someone who knows of this weakness can easily exploit it. - If the person is aware of the illusion, it will not shatter, but it is still just an illusion. - Though Cooper can manipulate a person's sense of feeling, the concentration required means he can only do it to one person at a time (unlike sight, sound, or smell, which can affect multiple people at once), and he is usually unable to sense anything else around him while he uses this power. He also owns a pair of black fingerless gloves, but he only puts them on when he gets serious. History:
Cooper was born with the ability for magic, but didn't become aware of his power until he was already three. He managed to sneak his way into the cookie jar (as all naughty toddlers are keen to) and helped himself to several of the sweet chocolate chip cookies. Suddenly, he heard his mother coming, so he quickly replaced the cookie jar lid and hopped off the counter. His mother walked in on him mid-hop. She stomped over to the cookie jar, and Cooper wished desperately that the jar would suddenly fill up with cookies. His mother opened the lid, looked confused, then set it back in its place. She told Cooper not to eat any cookies, then left the room in shock. Cooper climbed back up and glanced inside the cookie jar; they were all there! Every cookie he had already eaten had magically made its way back into the cookie jar. Happily, he reached for the top-most cookie, only to have his hand pass right through it. After several failed attempts to take the phantom cookies, Cooper finally gave up and went away. However, he puzzled over it for quite a while, and it was several days later that he finally arrived at the truth: he could use magic. Cooper was very careful to keep it a secret from his parents, who held strict anti-magic sentiments for reasons the young boy - to this day - never understood. He practiced his power in secret, but when he was eight, his parents finally caught him in the act. Things hit the fan, and after much shouting and threats of punishment, Cooper finally decided to run away from home. His parents didn't stop him, instead telling him not to come home until he was "rid of that foul magic for good!" However, after five years of honing it, Cooper had really come to enjoy his power. Even if it meant losing his home and family, he chose that day to declare himself a wizard, and he didn't care who knew it. Eventually, however, things went his way. He took up life as a wanderer, performing tricks to make money as he went. One day, he found a small group of wizards who were impressed by his magic talents. Looking back, they were technically part of a Dark Guild, but they were so small and so minor that no one would have considered them an actual threat to anyone. However, over time, that changed. They became "official", including a name and tattoo: Gorgon's Fang. They started out as mere troublemakers, kids who would cause some havoc and run from the police that tried to catch them. Thanks to Cooper's abilities, this became an even easier task than it had been for them. He was welcomed right away. Cooper, for his part, was having the time of his life. While he didn't always feel right about what the gang was doing, he had a place where he belonged, and he could use his power freely. Unfortunately, that power went to his head. Even as a child, Cooper was quite adept at using his abilities. As time went on, his abilities grew more and more destructive... as did his appetite. He started to revel in the chaos he was causing. He grew darker and darker inside, eventually becoming a monster. His powers allowed him to bring people's greatest fears to life, and he used this power freely. Eventually, his friends gave him the title "Nightmare Demon", and the nickname slowly spread around. However, like all things, it eventually came to an end. One day, Gorgon's Fang was rolling through a small town about 100 miles from Magnolia. An elderly man was selling some fine jewelry from a cart near the entrance, and much to his sad luck, he happened to hail the group down. The guild ransacked the cart, smashing the lesser pieces and taking the valuables for themselves. The old man pleaded with them not to do this, but the guild leader simply laughed and shoved him to the ground. As the group began to walk away, a little girl suddenly rushed up and stood to block their path. She demanded that they give back the jewelry and say that they were sorry. The guild burst out laughing; this girl couldn't have been more than five years old. Yet her eyes were resolute, and she insisted that they apologize for doing bad things. Finally, the guild leader had had enough. He stepped forward and lifted a large club, preparing to crush the little girl where she stood, but a sudden hand caught his wrist and stopped him. It was Cooper. He told them all that he had no intention of harming an innocent girl, and they had no need to do so either. The leader shrugged him off, insisting that the little girl get what was coming to her. The rest of the guild agreed with him. The debate grew heated, and soon, violence was inevitable. Cooper was the only one still standing after that, though his arm was broken and he was bleeding from several places. The rest of the guild lay bleeding on the ground, unconscious. Cooper took the stolen jewelry from them, laid them before the old man, and muttered a quiet "Sorry." He then turned and walked away, leaving his old life behind him. The events of that day had opened his eyes, so to speak. While he knew that what he and his "friends" had been doing was wrong, they'd never stooped to the level of killing an innocent child before. Cooper removed the guild mark from his chest that night, and resumed a life of wandering and scrounging. It wasn't until several years later that he finally discovered Fairy Tail, and though he was suspicious of guilds, they looked like the real deal. After a brief consideration, he finally decided to give it a try. He is now one of the newest members of Fairy Tail, though (as far as he knows) no one knows about his darker past. And he hopes it will stay that way.
Personality: Cooper is a very go-with-the-flow kind of person, sometimes to the point of being downright lazy. However, he usually has a good spirit and will try to help his friends if they need him. Never one for the spotlight, he prefers to stay in the shadows or the rear, manipulating events while remaining unseen. He has an impressive intellect, but is rarely inspired enough to apply it to anything. When in battle, he prefers to play with his opponents, using illusions and quick wit to mock and make fun of his enemy, angering them into a terrible mistake. If pressed, however, his skills in Illusion are very dangerous. Internally, he still struggles with the demon he used to be, and if a friend's life is ever threatened, he may find releasing it a better option than not... Legend and Lore: In his many travels, Cooper once heard of an interesting tale that actually motivated him to follow up on it. According to legend, there exists a mirror somewhere in this world that can show a person as they are. That is, the mirror reflects that person's soul, revealing their inner-most personalities and wishes for all who can view it to see. Though he has yet to uncover any promising leads, he has heard the story enough times that he believes it contains some truth, and he would one day like to see this mirror for himself.
