Sam Sam began to curse and groan as the metallic screech of the alarm clock awoke him from his quite comfortable slumber. He laid there for a moment, trying to block the terrible noise out so he could go back to sleep, but it was to no avail. After about five minutes of this, he rolled around violently and smacked the alarm clock on the head. He groggily rose from his bed just as Peter left the dorm. That guy was weird. Peter had tried to socialize with him the day before, but the metal man wanted no part of it. He seemed to be extremely distant. Sam would be fine with that so long as he didn't get annoying. Sam sighed loudly as he rose to his feet, and walked into the bathroom, where he brushed his teeth, showered, and did his hair (which took ten minutes) all while listening to a record of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Before leaving for the Academy, Sam's father gave him a present; a record player that also doubled as a CD player and an iPod dock. It was a handsome piece of machinery, rectangular and oblong with wood paneling and speakers on both sides. He emerged from his room a few moments later, wearing faded navy blue jeans, a grey Led Zeppelin shirt, and, of course, his jacket. He smoked a cigarette as he walked through the dorms and to the cafeteria, and tossed the butt into a trash can just as he entered the cafeteria. Upon arriving, Sam scanned the room for people he knew, and centered on Vera. He walked through the buffet line at a brisk pace, taking some eggs, bacon, sausage links, and a piece or two of scrapple. He poured himself a cup of coffee, and then walked over to Vera's table. Just as he was about ten feet away, though, his eye caught the one-eyed pirate chick that he'd seen the other day. She looked pretty strong, and if Sam was going to survive this school with the likes of Jean Valjean and Vespera, he would need some strong allies. He walked over to Gabe's table and moved to sit at a seat across from her, when he decided to be polite. "Mind if I sit here?" he asked.
