The Empire of the Rising Sun uses a vast array of weapons and techniques from Beam Katana wielding infantry making honourable charges and shinobi infiltrating advanced enemy compounds to great giant King Oni and massive floating fortresses. [hider=A Brief History of the Empire] The Day of Destiny In the original world the Empire of the Rising Sun had been developed in, there was a great war between two powers: The Allied Nations and the USSR. With the two superpowers consumed in their petty land wars, the Empire quietly gathered it's strength before finally attacking a nearly triumphant Russia on New Year's eve, shocking the entire Soviet Union into fighting a war on a eastern front that they had neglected in favour of war in Europe for far too long. The Imperial forces, led by Shogun Shiro Miyako, swept aside the almost pitiful Soviet resistance who were also hampered by an entire night of drinking. The Mighty Saint of Swords Making great gains within the Soviet Union, the Empire surrounded Odessea, one of the last remaining Russian strongholds. It was here that Prince Tatsu unleashed his most terrifying creation: The Shogun Executioner. The massive weapon crushed it's way through Odessea, and soldiers and civilians alike were massacred in this wake. However, this "victory" - if it could even be called that, for to have a "victory" meant that there had to be a "battle" when this was more of a completely one sided massacre - sparked the first cases of doubt in the Imperial Destiny - not only did some claim there was no honour in slaying civilians in such a manner, others even began questioning whether Imperial Domination was worth such slaughter. This massacre and the Imperial reaction became the spark that would later ignite the flames of de-radicalization within the Empire. Although this was not publically revealed, Shogun Miyako was said to have protested against the use of the Shogun Executioner and was only saved from having Prince Tatsu ordering her to commit ritual suicide by the direct intervention of Emperor Yoshiro at the pleading of Miyako's mentor, Shogun Shinzo. Men and Countries In the wake of one Imperial victory after another against both the Soviets and the Allies, the top leaders of the two factions agreed on a truce and held a meeting. It was through a spy on this meeting that the Empire made a shocking discovery: Their very existence was the result of time travel and the elimination of a certain "Dr. Albert Einstein". Lost in shock at the revelation there "is no divine destiny", moments later Tokyo was besieged by a combined Allied and Soviet Naval Force. Snapping out of the shock earlier than everyone else in the room, Shogun Miyako, at the urging of Emperor Yoshiro and Prince Tatsu took up the defence of Tokyo alongside Shogun Shinzo and the Empire's secret hero, the psionically powered girl named Yuriko. The Empire nearly fell, but in the end it stood strong and the Allied-Soviet agreement shattered, with both sides blaming the other for the failure of the invasion. In the aftermath of the revelation, Emperor Yoshiro and Prince Tatsu agreed, father and son, that there was only one truth: there was no divine destiny. Instead, men and countries were to make their own destinies. And the Empire would make their own by finishing what they had started. Making their own Destiny After the Allied-Soviet agreement collapsed, the war was more or less over - only small pockets of resistance remained, led by the top leaders of each faction. First to fall was Moscow, with Shogun Miyako taking command of Imperial forces and seeing to the death of Premier Cherdenko. The final battle happened in Amsterdam, where the last bastion of Allied resistance crumbled beneath the might of the Empire. In the aftermath of victory, Shogun Miyako was promoted to the title of Supreme Shogun. The War was over. The Empire of the Rising Sun shone brighter than ever. "高处不胜寒" - It is Lonely at the Top As the world ended, the Empire of the Rising Sun and her people were proud. With a deep breath and joy, they prepared to take the reigns of the world they had subdued. As it turns out, they only found desolate wastelands, ruined cities, mountains of corpses and a destroyed world. Japan shone as a bright beacon on the world, but it only shined because the rest of the world was sullied by their own hands. As the war fever died down, the entire empire, from the common soldier to Emperor Yoshiro himself saw for themselves the terrible destruction they had wraught. The entire empire fell into a state of deep self-reflection, and unanimously, they decided altogether: It wasn't worth it. They were now alone. They had no friends, only slaves. They had strived to lead the world, but all they had managed to succeed in was to cripple it. "Leading by Example:" A New Empire When the Empire and her citizens arrived in this new world, Emperor Yoshiro and his ministers held a great conference. At the end, it was decided: the Empire will forever cast aside it's policy of world domination. Enough was enough. They had conquered the world once; they would not do so again. Instead, Emperor Yoshiro boldly announced the Empire would adopt a "lead by example" approach and sought to promote tourism and trading between the Empire of the Rising Sun and the other nations of this new world. The Emperor was confident that there was much that the Empire could learn from other nations, and definitely at the same time there was much the Empire could teach the nations around her. However, they were strict traditionalists and when she approached them at the age of 17 with her desire to join the newly founded Imperial Women's Warfare Academy, a new institute created to train future Rocket Angels, her parents forbade her to go. Well, that didn't stop her, and with the same determination that would see her drive the Empire to crush her enemies almost a decade later, she ran away from home and walked, hitch-hiked, worked part time jobs for money and eventually made her way to Hokkaido, finally arriving at the gates of the Academy after a month of travel. However, she was rejected due to the fact that she had disobeyed her family to come. Dejected and mentally defeated, Miyako was lost in Hokkaido. It was by pure great luck that that very day, Shogun Shinzo Nagama had arrived to inspect the Academy and saw Miyako rejected from the ranks of the rocket angels. Acknowledging her determination, he offered her a place in the military - albeit not directly as a frontline soldier, but still in the military - as his communications officer. Graciously taking the offer, she served her benefactor dutifully. Through her service of two years, the Shogun always insisted she play Shogi with him. The first few times, she lost in rather close games, but finally a day came when she beat her commander. Fearing consequences, she looked up only to see the old Shogun smile and say the following words: "I would like to train you to become a Shogun" Under the tutelage of Commander Nagama, one of the very few who had acknowledged her talent and will, Miyako managed to become a Shogun in a time when women being a part of the military was still highly scorned upon. She found friendship with a fellow female shogun named Naomi Shirada, with whom she would lead the invasion of America with in the future. It was also as shogun that Miyako met her chief communications officer, Suki Toyama. Upon the Empire's victory, Miyako, for her great efforts effectively single handedly winning the war, was granted the title of supreme shogun. She was also invited to Waikiki beach with Suki Toyama, and although it was a matter of private life the "netto keijiban" internet boards of the Empire were rife with speculation that the Empire's great heroine was in love with her communications officer. Although nothing definite has been said and no one dared to ask the Supreme Shogun directly (save for the Emperor and the Crown Prince Tatsu), there are many yuri mangas depicting a girl who strangely resembles Miyako as a military commander who is in love with her shy communications officer. Unbeknownst to them, when at a Geisha bar together with Shoguns Kenji Tenzai and Takara Sato she actually came across a copy of the manga, and to their amused laughter her first response is "This is ridiculous. Toyama was the one who invited me to Hawaii, not the other way around" After the war, she heard tales of how women who wielded the bow drove off remnant Allied forces while the Empire's military reserves were stretched thin for the final assaults. Meeting these women and learning of how they had wanted to serve the empire yet had been rejected from the ranks of the rocket angels, Miyako, who herself knew rejection from the rocket angels spoke with Prince Tatsu, who designed a new plasma bow and arrow weapon that could be used to shoot down aircraft. Grateful for the Supreme Shogun's decision, just as Prince Tatsu had been elevated to the position of the war god Bishamonten Miyako was elevated to the position of Izanami no Mikoto, goddess of creation and death, and become the ceremonial head of the newly created Archer Maiden Corps. Skills: Tactical Genius: Miyako is a highly skilled commander, able to see through weaknesses and adapt her strategies easily. Logistics: Miyako understands that the floating fortresses, mighty as they are, are still not infinite. She is capable of forming guarded, well placed and efficient supply lines to keep her troops on the front line supplied and fed. Kyudo: During her youth and even after her promotion to Shogun, Miyako practiced the Japanese art of archery. She is highly skilled with a bow, which is one of the reasons why she is an honorary archer maiden. Weapons: A Katana that symbolizes her position as the Supreme Shogun of Japan. She also has her personal Shogun Battleship, the Mikasa, and a specialized set of Archer Maiden Bow and Arrows, granted to her by the grateful women of the Archer Maiden Corps for her support in the creation of their unit. Abilities: None Other: Is the Supreme Shogun of the Empire, and with the Emperor's ailing health due to his age she, along with Crown Prince Tatsu are usually the dignitaries and ambassadors representing the Empire abroad.
