Reason: He got involved with a mafia in the wrong manner, helping to get off the member of an opposing gang. This inadvertently made him a target after the trial, which just finished two days before he received the letter. Also he is interested in the cash.

Personality: 
- Preston is an extremely charismatic man, it comes with his occupation but he is special with words. He's in another sense, very charming.
- He is a driven man, one that will relentlessly pursue something until he gets it, he does not accept failure.
- He's a logical thinker, always mulling over situations before he gets involved in them.

- Cocky, he can come off as a snobby jerk even when he doesn't try to be one.
- He is pretty selfish, this ties in with how greedy he gets with money.
- He tends to manipulate people, using lies and smooth talking to get what he wants, of course he tends to dial this back in court, but outside of it, he'll happily be a manipulative asshole.

Small Biography:
Preston is a hotshot criminal defense attorney, one of the best in the state, and as he thinks himself, one of the best on the east coast. While he doesn't speak much of his childhood, but was a great student who eventually graduated Columbia law school. Since entering the big time, he has had a string of successes to his name as a lawyer, helping many of his clients to be acquitted from sometimes very harsh odds. 

He defended a mafia member, who he did not know what involved with the mafia, the man was set up, and in an odd turn of events ended up with Preston defending him when he was tried for double murder. He managed to work a near miracle, getting his client away with an acquittal which pissed off the opposing mafia that set up his client, putting Preston at the top of the target list. He had been in his house since the trial, when he received the letter, excited by the chance of more money and the promise of his large problem getting taken care of.
