How many of you have played it? I had played the beta, and couldn't really get into it at the time. Friend got me a full copy of the game when it launched and asked me to give it another chance.

As a stand alone game, the story is short and the MMO/Borderlands style loot system is harsh when the RNG hates you. But going back through the story a second, or even a third time, doesn't feel like a grind because it was enjoyable. As a co-op game, all I can say is shenanigans are had and fucking fun. It's PvP/Multiplayer is also fun as hell, but has some flaws. While they did a good job for the basic PvP(stripping level advantages, standardizing damage and health/armor, but letting you keep your weapon/armor/class upgrades) there are just things a low level may not be able to overcome competitively against someone in the 20s.While skill is the defining factor, gear has a major role as well. All that being said, it is a MMO styled game, so things may change, they may expand(other than the slated expansions), and they may have a much deeper story waiting in the works for a later time.

All in all, good game.

True, same with Titanfall, CoD, Halo, Borderlands, WoW...or nearly any other game I play. The reason I still play them is because of the people I play said games with. Bored of the games, still love the bullshit and shenanigans we do.

Never bought/played it myself, but it sounds like one of those MMO's that would have functioned better being F2P and then just charging for DLC and then Booster Packs for faster/increased chances for rare gear and such.

Multiplayer balancing and gameplay mechanics, 10/10 for me. 9/10 for soundtrack and graphics. 4/10 for story, character, lore, and depth - this game is just barren. It's less Mass Effect and more a more-innovative sci-fi CoD.

How could it possibly have functioned as F2P? The production cost of this game was *ludicrous*. They should've..... what, done that for zero money?

....sorry. I fucking hate F2P. Hate hate hate. It's bayuddddd. I pay subscriptions happily in Elder Scrolls Online, if only to keep out the F2P would-be players. No regrets.

I'm really hoping that the story will be expanded...a lot.

From what it looks like, 8 hours of story, 10 maps? There's no way that cost near the amount of money they put into it.
I guarantee you the majority of that money is being put into things such as DLC stuff they could more than make their money back from by selling individually.

Or if their micro-player transactions works so well, use the DLC as a way to update the game and keep players engaged. Just like Mass Effect 3's Multiplayer DLC, that shit was 100% free. But it kept people playing and buying the packs with real money.

F2P allows a much larger player base to come in, a lot more people to play the game, a lot more people to keep the community alive and active.
So when coupled with a online marketplace for stuff such as better loot rolls, experience boost packs, or even say just skins to customize one's appearance you're audience is far bigger. A lot more people are willing to fork out 5-10 dollars for this new skin, then another 5 for this starter kit, then another skin etc rather than a full up 60.

Often times players end up spending more than the 60 anyways, such as say Planetside. I've blown at least 80-100 dollars into skins, deco's and weapon variants. And I'm considered minor compared to some of the hardcore players. A lot of those hardcore players, may have never tried the game out if they had to pay 60 up front. Or may have left way earlier if the 60$ fee was causing the player community to be much smaller.

I imagine a lot of it went towards hiring Peter Dinklage. Tyrion Lannister doesn't do voice-over for no F2P game.

*shrug*

Idunno. It's just not a model that appeals to me. I don't know a whole lot about game design, but the economics says 'free' is a waste. Really though like I said before, the reason I don't like F2P is because that 'bigger community of more players' that show up are generally assholes.

That's definitely a possibility. Peter Dinklage would be damn expensive. But not $500 million worth.

The F2P bigger community though honestly depends on the game I find, you get your horrid cases like League of Legends. But then cases like Planetside where everyone can co-operate and pull out huge raids.

F2P MMO's sure. But I see a lot of potential in F2P open source in indie games.

F2P. Open Source. Lol.
Problem with this is that open source means anyone can access the code. That means you'll have people modding and giving away their mods for free. Don't get me wrong, I love open source. But some combinations don't work.

Another problem with open source is that anybody can fork the code and develop it themself, then distribute it.

I pretty much non-stop played it for two weeks when I got it and my ps4. I love it. While the story is shit, and nothing gets explained whatsoever, it's still a very fun game. Especially if you actually play with people. As of right now I am light level 27, decked out in legendaries, an exotic helmet and exotic rocket launcher(courtesy of the agent of the nine).
