The difference between the two is that Mark has to do it all consciously, which means he's pretty fallible. He just has as much time to think about things as he wants.
Red on the other hand just has to look and then he knows. He can do things that Mark never could as far as deductions go.. For example, he could probably learn another language pretty easily, while it would be just as much a struggle as it would a normal person for Mark :D
