Spirit summoning and spellcasting is usually a pretty speedy act, but magicians having some sort of limit (self-imposed or otherwise) to their casting isn't uncommon. As for the blood magic: When a magician decides to use blood in their magic, they're usually already on the path of corruption. So I guess you could say things have already caused him problems. Resorting to blood magic (usually using the blood of others, though) could totally be a result of a hunger for power, so if you wanna play that, we can go with it. It does raise the question, though, of why a team of shadowrunners would want to work with a corrupted magician.
